Atari introduces the Speakerhat, a hat with speakers

dims.jpg

Many of us are already aware of the Ataribox, something that sounds like an attempt to follow in the footsteps of the Ouya project. But you may not have heard about this.

On what appears to be an introduction to the "Atarilife" brand of lifestyle products, Atari has a splashpage dedicated to the virtues of this new product.

What is a Speakerhat?

A new listening experience
The Atari Speakerhat is a baseball-style cap with high-fidelity stereo speakers and microphone that can connect instantly to any Bluetooth-enabled device.

Connect to any smartphone, tablet, personal computer to play any music or other media content, initiate or accept phone calls, receive voice commands, etc.

The Atari Speakerhat feels natural and normal to wear for long periods of time, and achieves a balance of weight vs. sound quality and functionality. The intent is to continuously improve on design and engineering, until the technology is completely invisible.

Interested parties also have the chance to sign up for a future beta program.

To anyone wondering what it looks like in motion, some of my friends were sent one. They don't look as weird as you might think. The video they uploaded about the hat is here:

Having tried it myself, it most probably won't be worth the price they'll end up charging for it.

I don't like the idea. If you're listening to it loud it could cause eye problems. If it was where headphones go then maybe. But honestly, I don't like it.

I think you meant to say ear problems. This has less potential to cause ear problems than headphones or earbuds, and I doubt the speaker will even be anywhere near loud enough to the point where it could damage them at all

Thanks a lot. Now I've got a mental image (okay: video) of someone turning up the volume to such a ridiculous degree that his eyes pop out. :rofl2:
(of course the mental image ends with that oldskool "THX...the audience is listening" message :P ).
Aww, should I take offense for you saying that;)?
Because...
I own (free and clear) and drive a Jaguar.
Just be glad that atari didn't design THAT device...

They probably would've put the radio speakers on the outside of the car :tpi:
