Tutorial  Updated

Get 11.4 Emunand working on Gateway with online access!

Important:-
- This is meant to be used only on EMUNAND. Don't try this on sysnand and you will or might brick!
- Before starting any of this make sure to make backup of your emunand. You were warned!
- And to clarify this isn't actually frakenfirmware. You are just "selectively updating" 3ds via official updates and by not installing 2-3 titles that are not compatible with Gateway you can boot the firmware and even go online. You can actually just do a system update from setting in case you want to update your firmware fully.
-Luma 8.0 users check this for now https://gbatemp.net/threads/luma-8-0-wont-load-my-emunand.473263/#post-7373368

-Read FAQ for other questions.

Most of us, including me were stuck on 11.2 emunand for Gateway cheats. In return we couldn't play online as system wont go online unless updated, like you all have seen that error on friend list that asks you to update. Anyways here is the method to almost completely update to 11.4 with online access and it is "working as of now".

I own a US N3DS and this tut makes use of system titles compatible with this model only. While many titles might be similar others might not be so just find the alternate titles for your region/model.
Again if you don't do this you may brick!

There wasn't much to do tbh as most of the updated titles for 11.4 were already compatible with gateway.
These were the titles that were updated from 11.2-11.4 in case of US N3DS.

Don't download/install below three as these will brick emunand.

0004013000002D02,USA,v11264,11.4.0-37 (NWM_Services) -- Latest version will Brick gateway emunand

EDIT- It seems you can skip steps 4-6, if you get online access with just first 3 steps!
However in any rare case you are getting lag on wifi manger do complete steps.

Steps-
1- Backup your emunand.
2- Download the titles marked with green with 3DNUS or any similar piece of software. These are the latest titles anyways.
3- Use sysupdater and put all the green marked titles in updates folder. Update and restart.

4 You need just one more title 0004013000002D02, but you wont be installing the latest version as mentioned above. For this first download v9216(from 8.0.0 update) with 3dsnus mark it as old and v10240(from 9.0.0) update and mark this as new.
5-Spoof the v10240 version with hxd to v11264 which is the current one.

How to spoof the cia version?
Manual Way/Offline:
(This is from my old thread tut)
In this case I am taking example of 0004001000021000.cia[US].
http://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/titlelist.php?sys=ctr&wiki=1 shows that we have v8203 from 9.0 update and we need to spoof it to atleast v9221(or more if you wish) which was in 9.6 update.
Open hxd and look for offset 00002F90 and then 0C-0D have your version no in hexadecimal. convert it decimal with this. In our case it is 20 0B with means 8203 in decimal and now again use decimal to hex to convert v9221 to hex which is 24 05 in hex. Now just overwrite 20 0B with 24 05 and save.
This completes the spoofing of version.
Alternate Way- If the title can be downloaded via 3dnus you can use the option "change version number to" before downloading that title and it will automatically spoof the version no to what you want to set.

6- Then open FBI and install the title 0004013000002D02 marked as old(v9216). Reboot and then install the new marked one(which should be now spoofed to show as v11264).
7-Restart and check Friend List, you should have online access unless you were ninty banned xD.
8- Donot attempt to system update from settings because it will install the remaining 2 non-compatible titles and you will be left with a bricked emunand. After gateway supports 11.2+ firmware you can update the system.

FAQ
Q:What does 0004013000002D02 do? Why are we using a super old version of it, not even the version from 11.2?
A:It wont allow you to directly install the spoofed version of 11.2. So you first downgrade it with old one and in the same run just install the spoofed 11.2 one.

Q:What do I use to download update files?
A: https://gbatemp.net/threads/3dnus.376488/. Use 1.9 for n3ds and 1.8 for o3ds. There is a new updated version too but I used this.

Q:Why don't we spoof the other 2 titles too?
A: Because I tried that many times and gateway always bricks the emunand no matter. Plus I found you actually don't need to spoof them as online still worked.

Q: Ughh.. I dont know which files I need to download for my region/model?
A: From the links given, gather the title list that need updating, and just remove the 3 titles you shouldn't install as stated, they are same for all. Rest follow the guide.

Q:Will sysupdater brick me on gateway doing this. I read a warning?
A: Only if you don't follow this guide exactly . This is what backups are for and make sure to create one so you can always restart. This has to be done on GATEWAY-EMUNAND mode only! If you are paranoid install the titles via FBI and you can achieve the same results.

Q: Will this Game/DLC work now that we have 11.4 emunand set up?
A: The emunand is good to go, but gateway might/will block certain dlc like FE: shadow's one. They install just fine in cfw mode on the same emunand, Gateway needs to fix their launcher!

I hope there's no truth to that claim. I used 1.9 to grab firmware sets until it stopped working. I'd hate to think they're incomplete. However, they all seem to be the correct size, have the right number of files, etc. My 9.2 ended up being 9.0 for some reason (probably the wrong files listed in the .csv databases), but I fixed that a long time ago.

I've been putting off trying this because of all of the manual downloads involved, but it looks like the new 3DNUS 3.2 beta works. I'm able to download full sets again. So, now I can just be lazy and leave the files that should not be updated out, lol.
Its not my claim as I use 1.9 myself but this gives illusion of choices for doubtful users at the very least, so no harm done.

Fair enough.

I just thought it best to clarify some things. I especially didn't want people to think that there are "new" and "old" variants of the same IDs. Because I can just see someone downloading the same titles 3 times before they finally realize they're looking at the wrong list, lol.

EDIT: Finally tried it. The first attempt failed. I did have to leave out 000400300000CC02 and 0004013000008002 to get it working on an O3DS. So, apparently it's not just the EUR units that have this issue. But GW is booting now with my partial 11.5 update. Thanks again for the info. Now, time to see if I can get Safe A9LH Installer working in B9S. Not that I have a reason to go back. But, not having a simple way to go the other direction without a backup just bothers me.

The guide says:

Extract the "arm9loaderhax.bin" from v2gw.zip to your /luma/payloads/ folder.

But where is this /luma/payloads folder?

Does this guide only work if you have LUMA3DS CFW set up first?

ok GoT Luma3DS 11.5 CFW running, But How Can One Access Their Default SYSNAND which is pre-11.5?

Kus Even when my SD card is taken out, my system is at 11.5 (But perhaps this is a config setting that is set oN with LUMA3DS After using the 3ds.guide, and thus can be taken out???

Just before booting luma press select and you can all options there and check whatever you need. also after following that guide follow this https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/

But where is this /luma/payloads folder?

Forget that nonsense. You don't need v2gw.bin or any such BS. You just need a copy of the GW payload converted using firmtool. I posted a copy here already. BootCTR9 can boot it straight. You can (and probably should) completely forget about using Luma's chainloader. BootCTR9 lets you choose what you want for a default, works with GW straight, lets you pick whatever you want for a default (GW included), has animation options and other advanced features because it uses a proper configuration file instead of a naming scheme, and can run old .bin payloads (Puma33DS for example, one of the few things that can run a 9.2 EmuNAND on an N3DS, though even that needed a fully decrypted 9.0 firmware.bin -- use GM9 for that, Cakes misses the ARM9 part, never mind it's decryption routines aren't exactly working properly on the N3DS under B9S anyway).

If you can't be bothered to setup a configuration file (though it's really easy if you know how to copy and paste), I'm working on an AIO pack with pre-made configurations ready to drag and drop (for a certain iso site, because it's including everything, and we can't upload files containing firmware here). I'd have it up already, but that Cakes issue I mentioned forced me to fully decrypt the firmwares I'm including for the N3DS copies. This will have almost every CFW on hotkey, not just Luma and GW. You may not ever use them all, but if there's room on the chainloader, why not? And it will let you pick between BootCTR9 (hotkeys), CBM9 (menus), and Luma (for those who simply must go there). The latter two have to use BootCTR9 for GW and Puma, but I've made it completely transparent (in CBM9's case, by using it's patching feature to load multiple .ini files).

Also, you might want a second EmuNAND on 9.2 to run homebrew. There are many FPS conversions that are broken atm. There are some things that will probably just never work. You don't have to use separate cards, though. One card can have up to 4. Just use 3DS Multi EmuNAND Creator. But 1.71 seems to have a bug that corrupts the card when I try to make EmuNAND 3 every time, so, I uploaded a copy of 1.61 I found.

Does using 3DS Multi EmuNAND Creator erase all my files on my SD card iN order to create a new EMUNAND partition?

Kus I'D Luv to run my EMUNAND at 11.2 for the most recent GW Launcher to work, But i think my Latest NAND fiLe may be at 9.2...

So Do u suggest running SYSUPDATEr once 9.2 EMUNAND is set to get it at 11.2 (so that way the most recent gateway Launcher can work...

or Does 3DS Multi EMUNAND creator simply make A CLONE of one's kurrent SYSNAND?

Yes, it will erase all files on the card. It has to re-format the card to make room for the EmuNAND. I had to back everything up. But I wanted a 9.2 because things like ctrQuake (Quake with online MP), Spectre3DS (Quake with stereoscopy and music, but no menu) and ctrHexenII aren't working in Rosalina. You have to inject to create the additional EmuNAND, so, the NAND dump you want to use has to be on your PC. Though the tool can dump EmuNANDs directly, so this is not a problem usually. You can just dump the first one and clone it if you want to. It will work with any existing NAND/EmuNAND backup you have (just make sure it's for the right device). If you don't want to format your card, you can just use a second card. Or if you're not into homebrew that much, you can skip it completely.

It's easy to get 9.2 working on an O3DS. Puma will work. Cakes will work if you give it a 9.0 firmware, etc. It was a bear getting it to work on an N3DS. Cakes won't decrypt 9.0, and still won't work even after using GM9 to decrypt it. Puma won't work by itself, but giving it the decrypted 9.0 firmware.bin I was trying to use with Cakes finally got it to work. I've currently got Puma on Y, and GW on B, so this works out well. Legacy may also work, but I'm not so frustrated with Rosalina to just drop 8.x (not that 8.x and Legacy can't be run side by side, but redoing the configuration gets old fast). Rosalina will be great. We just need to be patient.

SysUpdater works fine for updating from a 9.2 to 11.2 (and from there even to partial 11.4). It also works for downgrading an 11.5 to 11.2 though. It just depends on which you want to do. I like having mine linked, so I can sync tickets (I have even created a GM9 script for that), so, assuming the 9.2 has been formatted to unlink it, I would downgrade the 11.5, but that's me. If you need any firmware sets, the latest 3DNUS works well. Just type in the one you need (11.2.0-35U or 11.4.0-37U for example) and make sure you have the right hardware selected. For 11.4, of course, don't forget to leave the ones mentioned out, including 000400300000CC02 (D402 with EUR consoles) and 0004013000008002 if it's an O3DS or O2DS. Also, avoid 11.5 for now (unless you just want to do Nver and Cver for cosmetic purposes, creating fake videos on Youtube, etc.). I got it to boot, but had problems with the select menu not working.

If your first card doesn't have an EmuNAND, then no. EmuNAND is a copy of NAND on the SD card. What I was saying is that it's possible to have an 11.2 on one, and a 9.2 on a second card. They will not interfere with each other. I was assuming you already had one EmuNAND setup for GW on the first card.

If you have no EmuNAND, and you have two cards that are the same size, you could set the EmuNAND(s) up on the second one, perform a backup of the first one while you sleep, and then transfer the contents to the second card when you wake up. You get a copy of your first card with EmuNAND(s), and you can still use your first card in your 3DS while you wait for the files to transfer.

At the moment SD Card One is LUMA3DS CFW 8.1 (SYSNAND FW 11.5)

SD Card Two is 11.2 GW EMUNAND But Does Not Boot....

So is there anyway to transfer the 11.2 GW EMUNAND from SD Card Two ONTO SD Card One without Losing the fiLes oN SD Card One?

If that is Not going to work... Is there anyway to Boot iNto 11.2 GW EMUNAND When SD Card Two iS iN MY DS (even though my SYSNAND is at 11.5)?

Note SD Card One is Not The Same Size as SD Card Two... SD Card Two is just 4GBs, (SD Card One is over 32GBs)....

Well, if SD card 1 has no EmuNAND, you could just copy the contents to SD card 2. The thing is, your system will not boot without a "boot.firm" primary payload on the card (or your CTRNAND partition, which it will fall back on if it doesn't find it on the card). But if you copy the content from card 1, your system will boot using whatever primary payload is on card 1. If you followed the guide, that's Luma. That's OK though. Luma has a chainloader built in that can load other things. It's not as good as BootCTR9 IMHO, but it will work. You don't need different cards to run different things when you have a chainloader. You just set the other stuff you want to run up as hotkeys.

Now, I have pre-made configurations you can just drag and drop to card 2 to see if that helps. I haven't uploaded them yet, but I'm going to place them in the CFW section of a certain iso site if you can find it. I can't place it here because of the firmware files it contains. The name of the thread should be something like "B9S AIO Pack R1" when I create it. I've been planning to put it up for days, but, I keep having to fix things. Stuff that works fine on the O3DS breaks on the N3DS, etc. Today should be the day though. If they get GW booting (hold B unless you pick CBM9, in which case, hold down) with your EmuNAND, then it would just be a matter of copying the "Nintendo 3DS" folder from your first card over, and you could have it all on one.

right now my ctrNAND partitioN is LUMA 3DS 8.1 (CFW 11.5), so even if there aren't any SD cards iN my O3DS, THiS WiLL Boot....

Ok cool great...

Now because there are .cia files and what not on my SD card one, if there is a chance for me not having to bacc these fiLes up and re-formatting tHis SD Card (so that GW 11.2 can boot again), i'D prefer to use that chance....

Thus is there anyway for me to simpLy LOAD my SD Card #2 which has GW EMUNAND 11.2 just by using BootCtr9 for e.g....

AND if tHis is the case, Does there neeD to Be A SpeciAL fiLe on mY SD CarD 2 for BootCtr9 to run\to Boot my GW 11.2?

This way even if there is no chain LOADEr on my O3DS, tHere stiLL is A way for me to Use MY SD Card One for my .cia fiLes for FW 11.5, AND MY SD Card Two (BooteD thru BootCtr9 or any other App u can suggest???), just to get my GW Launcher BACC, since it won't run on 11.5!

My full configurations are up if you can find the CFW discussion section of a certain iso site. Try copying the BootCTR9 one to card 2. Hold B to boot GW. The default is Luma. This can be changed though. I've included an alternate configuration that ends in "_gw" if you would rather that be the default.

If you can't find it, just wait, I'll put a lite version up here.

If you can't find the full version, I've got the lite file ready, but I want to release it as it's own thread, and as usual, the devil's in the documentation. But I have the words from the full release to work with. Anyway, I'll start typing. I'll let you know when it's ready. As I said, the .ini file is there. It's not the default because I'm assuming most people want that to be Luma. But it's easy to rename.

EDIT: OK, it's here if you want to check it out. Maybe we should continue this conversation there, because we're kind-of getting off topic.
