personally, nnu patcher has never worked for me. I'd either get an eshop error or infinite loading while accessing the shop. at first, I thought it was due to using cc proxy instead of the dns servers that block updates, but the issue persisted with the latter, so I don't know what's going on with that.

What i use/do:

- Have CBHC installed on Wii U already;

- Deleted update folder with this method/info: https://gbatemp.net/threads/block-wii-u-system-updates-without-dns-blocking.477944/

- Access Homebrew Launcher Channel Version, and active nnupatcher from there (tip: never go to system settings, since if you do that, nnupatcher looses effect, so, you need to activate it again);

- When necessary, buy and download (or if already bough, just reload) the game i wanna and, if download gives error due to failed update attempt, i just restart my Wii U and go directly to Download Manager after Wii U boot from restart;

I believe that i forgot nothing about what i do normally.

I literally just finished installing Haxchi with Brain Age following this tutorial (haven't done anything beyond "2. installing an entrypoint", in which I did the recommended method.

Just wanted to thank you guys for helping me out. For some reason I could not get HB 1.4 to work at all, it kept locking up, I have to use 1.3, but otherwise everything worked great, backing up sysnand now.

Is there any reason why I would need to use 1.4 over 1.3?

Also, I was actually able to get into the eshop and download and install a VC game without having to shutting off the console, so that went real smooth.

One last question - I want to copy all of my discs to a usb hard drive. Is WUPInstaller as listed in the noob guide the best way to play them? What is the best way to rip my discs - wudump?

Thanks again for everything

I can't even use Haxchi, eShop requires an update to 5.5.2 (hell no!), so I guess its the browserhax method for me.

Super newb to the Wii U hacking scene. Saw the update warning on Reddit and... my console was already updated. I can't hack even if I wanted to. I really just wanted to run emulators on my gamepad. Sunnuvabitch.

Random question, but if for some reason Nintendo went on a banning spree, would it still be possible to access haxchi? Haxchi is a DS title technically, and considering how consumers don't truly own digital games, could they prevent us from playing games we purchased on the eshop?

If that's the case, I'm definitely not updating, at least until another internet exploit is found.

Thanks a lot for trying to help Machow8...but was a stupid mistake on my end. Apparently didnt have Smash 4 or Mario Maker updated to the latest version....so that was why I couldn't play online....whoops lol it's working fine now :)

RIP anyone who updated. Doubt there will be more exploits, the HB scene is dead.

No one even wanted to port any emulators. Why look for another exploit? Only real thing was piracy = meh.
The problem here is most of the emulators people wanted were already functional in vwii. Retroarch is alive and kicking for wiiu though and even supports hidden fat32 drives. The question up in the air though is whether it will ever get a full-speed psx emulator. There's a large bounty for it. Personally i own a psx as well, but it's suffering from wii syndrome (dead drive) and i'd just rather have a carousel to pick my games from.

if you're referring to homebrew browser, mine quit working also. I got it working again by deleting the icon cache.

Hey, guys. My Wii U is 5.5.1 and I have deleted the internet connection, so it can't update. I can access Homebrew Launcher through Offliine. However, I'm trying to install Haxchi on Brain Training (Age) but I can't. I have already played it and also Wario Ware and Mario Kart. Do I need an unplayed copy of the game? If the answer is yes, do I have any method yet to install haxchi?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Nevermind, Mario Kart DS dit it :) Now it's safe to update!

I have read the thread but still slightly confused.
So the way I understand it if you have CBHC installed you can take the update and no issues. The only issue is if you have not done any mods and take the update then it is more difficult to mod at 5.5.2?

If I have CBHC installed and am at 5.5.1 and I am able to inject games, etc.
Can I stop blocking updates, do the update, block updates again and everything will work as it does right now on 5.5.1 but without the nag message to update?
It is annoying getting the nag message and better for the kids if it does not come up.

If you already have Haxchi or CBHC installed, then the 5.5.2 update is safe but unnecessary. If you don't have Haxchi or CBHC installed, then the 5.5.2 update is not recommended because the 5.5.2 browser exploit is unreliable and usually takes several tries before it will work.

If you unblock updates, update to 5.5.2, and then re-block updates, the update nag should disappear from the eShop. However, your DNS filters will block the eShop, and it will require nnu patcher to use the eShop. Alternatively, running nnu patcher also bypasses the update nag on 5.5.1, so there's no reason at all to update to 5.5.2 since you should have to be using nnu patcher regardless of if you're on 5.5.1 or 5.5.2 if you're blocking updates effectively.

TLDR, there's no reason to update to 5.5.2. You should be using nnu patcher regardless of what you do.
