Oh? I didn't know that but it totally makes sense lol.
Yeah for some reason everyone is just assuming it's a drag and drop file to the SD card, when it's 100% more like a secondary HomeBrew exploit/DSiWareHax in the sense you need a way to flash the exploit payload to the flashcard.... And the only way to do that is what I said above, or a hardmod of course.

Dstwo can update itself to a higher firmware that supports 11.4 even while blocked. So it is in some cases a primary exploit

Yes but even then you'd still need a way to inject the exploit, unless it's combined with an update on a custom server or something. It's not just about if the falshcard is compatible with the firmware, but with the payloads themselves as well a flashing method.

This is my situation now

  • Get a 1 year old "New 3DS XL" w/ CFW installed + R4i card + hand grip + 2 sdcards. ~190€

  • Get an used "New 3DS XL" and mod it myself. ~150€

  • Get a brand new 2DS XL when it releases and probably hardmod it. 149€

I would talk to one of the trusted hardmodders. I think there's one in Portugal. they have some super professional shit. Especially if your willing to mail it to France.

Mind linking me that thread? I saw one earlier today and the closest trusted hardmodder would be in France. Didn't see any reference to portugal

EDIT: I did a search on that thread and contacted a member that lives in Portugal

Hey everyone

I got a good deal on a mint condition N3DS XL w/charger and I'll probably take it. It's running 11.3.0

Since it's used what should I check before buying? Things I can remember are

  • volume adjust

  • headphone jack

  • playing some games
But what more?

well, it may or may not be online banned already, but you'd need a wifi connection to check that by checking the friendlist menu and maybe open eshop.

Yup, that sounds good! 11.3 is nice. As another said it could be online banned but it's quite easy to unban so no worries!

I don't think the possibility of being banned for these actions should be so casually dismissed these days. You need to accept that there is a good possibility you will eventually lose your online privileges if choosing the CFW/piracy route for your 3DS even with the best precautions taken.

Thanks once again. I'm aware of the risks.
I only have some couple questions left

I love my pokemon games, and I'd like to replay them all since Ruby.

Is this even possible? Emulating GBA games on the N3DS? If it's not I don't mind, but I'd like to play DS games on the N3DS.

So if I'd want to play Pokemon Diamond on my N3DS what would I need? Just a simple flashcard?

If so, which one should I get? There's so many options

Yep. GBA on 3DS is possible and yeah for DS you'd need a flashcard. I'd recommend the original R4 it's cheapest and works for under $10! Buy from GBATemp's sponsor, nds-card. :P

Thanks, I'll probably buy from there.
The way to play GBA games in via injecting them into virtual console?

What's the main difference between the R4i Gold, Wood, etc? There's so many versions

buy r4i gold 3ds rts, no exceptions

or just use twloader, all main series mario games work but only main series pokemon games currently working are Diamond and Pearl. Others should be working soon since they are currently working on compatibility.

Thanks! So if I want 100% compatibility the flashcard would be the better option correct?
Is there any SD card size limit on these flashcards? I have some spares 16gb and 64gb cards

All sd cards will work as long as they are formatted fat32

32kb clusters for the actual 3ds one will help if using twloader

Yeah pretty much. And I still say the original R4 (SDHC version for bigger SD Cards) is better because it does everything you need and at the cheapest price. Also TWLoader isn't really competition for a flashcart, it doesn't have much compatibility at all and last time I checked it has some problems too. Also for GBA you can inject into virtual console or use an emulator.
