Can someone answer me this? I apologize if this is dumb/repeatedly asked/wrong place to ask, but I'm confused on some things and want a more concrete answer. I know more about 3DS hacking than Wii U.

My Wii U (5.5.1) is currently off and unplugged (with no DNS settings, didn't think I would need it) and has not been turned on since the system update was released. The only hack that I was using on it was using the browser then loading an app to load into redNAND (I know, outdated setup, don't yell at me. I don't play my Wii U often as I don't have the time). If I were to quickly turn the system on to add the DNS setting to my Wi-Fi connection, would it start downloading the update?

I want to look into setting up haxchi. I know that requires a DS game from the eShop, which probably requires an update to enter. You don't have to go into full blown detail, but can someone tell me the list of steps I have to go through to get haxchi properly setup on my 5.5.1 system with no DNS settings?
Check my guide. All steps are there

It doesn't need to be clean. It's okay to load it along side your smash mods.
Ok so I put all the files in my SD card,
I'm already on 5.5.1. I assume I don't need any game from the eShop. Launch loadiine, then HBL then Haxchi then load. How do I boot Smash up?

Which are the changes in AOC Overlay App?
Moreover... WTF is AOC Overlay App?
The only thing I know about it is what was reported about it being one of the things updated, and that it has something to do with purchasing dlc from in-game shops.

@KunoichiZ Re dns, if you are worried about it, turn your internet router/modem off before turning the Wii U on, you should be able to change the dns settings without it and then activate again after saving the connection changes.

Replaced new mvplayer.rpl (5.5.2) with the older one (5.5.1) from the \code browser folder (do this only with patches) but the exploit (browserhax) is still not working. Maybe you need to update also the .rpx to have it back again. Remember that editing the \code folder will crash the modified title if it is run without patches (Mocha or CBHC).

Searching for another title with mvplayer.rpl is easier (Miiverse seems exploitable)

What's confusing? Set your dns to the titledb addresses, no access to update servers.

And the maintenance looks like game and network updates, they already did console fw... so status quo?

You think your SD can handle all the writes that the built in nand Can? You're mistaken.
Exactly nands are designed for constant read and writes sd cards on the other hand are not designed for constant writes by using rednand you are majorly shorting the lifespan of the sd card.
What exactly do you think eMMC is made of, magic pixie dust? (And SD cards made of old floppy disks or something.)

Wii U uses eMMC for the main storage area. eMMC is virtually identical to an SD card, except it uses a form factor designed to be soldered to the system board instead of used as a removable card.

From what I understand, the real problem is that Wii U has downgrade protection in the SEEPROM. A version number is updated there when doing a system update on either SysNAND or RedNAND, so if it gets incremented when you update RedNAND, the system will be bricked because SysNAND won't be updated.

You can't learn without trying!

Also, imo an external NAND could be possible but only with hardmod.
