I am going to level with everyone in this thread, it's pretty much always going to be safe to update at this point. There is nothing software wise that Nintendo can do anymore. They can update the NATIVE_FIRM, but now we have methods around it. Even if we were to find a software based kernel exploit and Nintendo removes it, we can still get around it.
Now that we have B9S, there's literally nothing the Big N can do to stop us. They had their chance with the 2DS XL and they still shipped with the old bootrom!
Once NTRBootHAX gets released, then it's all over for Nintendo. Trust me, flashcart retailers are going to start selling kits pre-flashed for NTRBootHAX because it would stupid of them not to do so.
Y'all so used to the old A9LH/Menuhax days. We're in the B9S era now, babies! Nothing's stopping us from having a good time!
Edit: Even if they cause some damages to the CFW, it's never enough to really worry about.
still hasn't been released though has it! Until then it's foolish to proceed without caution.

Actually NTRBootHAX can not be fixed through a software update. The exploit is another bootrom exploit, meaning they are going to have to upgrade the hardware to fix this one. Nintendo literally shot their own foot by using the same bootrom for all of their revisions to the 3DS

Right, what I was trying to say though, it hasn't been made publicly availble, so foolish to modify behaviour on premise that has been release.

Dont know anything about the talented dev who come up with this wonderful thing but Ive seen great work like this before get trashed before release because someone feelings get hurt for one reason or another. Seems to happen all the time... It like for some reason, the more talented a dev is the, more emotionally sensitive they are to others. Anyways not saying this about anyone in specific but the psp scene I recall was pure drama...
IR Shell anyone??

GW are not a legit company, so being upset about their lack of updates and leaving their cart owners in the dark is stupid. It's a product that circumvents piracy and does not include a guarantee that you would get from a reputable store.

They could disappear like a fart in the wind at anytime and don't have to justify their reasons for it.

As for Gateway, I see more reasons to encourage users to switch than continue using a product so grossly out of date . The fact that we are now on 11.5 with B9S 1.2, while Gateway is on A9LH v1 with 11.2, should actually upset people. People should either be moving away from Gateway or start demanding updates from them. This is unacceptable treatment for their community and people shouldn't tolerate it.
I guess I am the only person truly upset by this.
A majority of people using GW also use it for cheats yet you fail to realise this. Until a B9S compatible cfw comes out with a cheat engine (e.g. CTRPF for NTR cfw), there should be no reason to tell people not to use it. I understand where you're coming from, it is kinda outdated, but at least let people use it until every single one of it's features are replicated in other cfws. Because atm, GW is definitely the best (public) cheat engine (CTRPF definitely rivals it but it's currently in alpha).

Yes I have a private copy of ntrboothax and that's how I tested.
And, no, my uncle doesn't work at Nintendo - I have better friends than that. :P
My stepdad works for nvidia, but won't disclose much to me due to his NDAs on various projects. Right now he's engineering a power supply for whatever is going to be the successor to the Switch.

I've never used the cheat engine, but it seems everyone REALLY loves it.
But it's not that I hate the GW nor the userbase. What I am upset about is the lackluster support these users go through and I just find unfair to them. They paid for this cart and they've stuck with the Gateway Team this long. It's upsetting to me to see them get so little support from the Gateway team and I feel like they deserve better than that. By now there should have been something to show that they are listening.
It's one of those things where I wish the Team would actually reach out to the community and ask for help. I know plenty of people who will drop what they are doing to help if they simply asked us. They could easy be running on 11.5 with B9S support if they simply reached out to the community and brought in more help, but instead they've just kept themselves isolated. It's just upsetting to be outsider looking at all this happening.
Contrary to what I may have said in the past, I adore this community. GBATemp has been part of my life for 7 years now and even helped me in real life. So to me, seeing something like this just jiggles my puffles and I hate being quiet about it. Maybe I am just not approaching it from the right angle. I know when we wanted the source code from the Supercard Team, we simply kept on them until they gave in. Maybe I should be encouraging users to continue on the Gateway team until they finally give in and take more help in.
Then maybe I won't have to go on long rent with every single update and this will be the last Gateway related post I make.

You're right. At this point there's no sense in keeping Gateway source code in private. The CFW scene has gone too far. The cart could have another life if they release the source.

I don't even know why they're trying to stabilize the 3DS even more tbh. It's not like when you press start and select button simultaneously the system goes berserk and deletes everything.

that would be a serious issue of stability...
