Could we please possibly stop abbreviating Know Your Temp to KYT as I have explained before in certain parts of the world expecially here in Scotland is used by pedophiles and creepy old dudes when talking about children and young adults (KYT is Kissable Young Thing). Pedophiles use it as a code when they are out on public with other Pedo's and see a kid they want to rape ect. Sorry for the rant but it just really annoys me every time I see KYT being used to tell use about a temp member lol.

The issue with tying personal feelings to everything is that it leaves a very shallow pool of what can be acceptable. At that point, the Temp might as well be shut down.
I find it funny that this is coming from a Patron.

But if you want shallow you can always forget Tumblr from what I understand. People who don't want to work on there issues seem to flock there.

There's a much better case for reverting to the non-abbreviated form than the one the OP makes... "KYT" means nothing to the average person... It's an unnecessary and unneeded abbreviation... If the thread is titled "Know your Temps" then people are going to, like, know what the post is likely to be about without having to have any prior knowledge of the series... Which is kind of the whole point of having a subject in the first place...

@Marko76 just put DinohScene on your ignore list and you won't see any of his threads. He makes all the KYT threads so that will stop you from seeing that acronym (at least, unless someone else talks about it).

Doesn't work.
The threads will be visable as soon as someone replies.
The OP won't be visable, but any other KYT mention will be by others.

He'll end up ignoring 75% of the active population on temp.

abbreviated tags draw more attention then long tags.
Besides, KYT has been a temp thing for years.
It's become Temp culture really.

Yeah now that you mention it, I think I have seen posts by "(ignored member)". @Vipera's suggestion is probably the best one! There was a browser plugin that went around a few years ago when we had a total moron of a prime minister, that replaced photos that contained him with pictures of kittens. (http://stoptonymeow.com/). The word-replacement thing must be based on the same technology.

Yea they draw attention... people have to think "WTF is that" (hehe... abbreviations) , and you probably have a load of people clicking on them, not because they're interested in the content, but because they don't know what the content actually is.

You also run the risk of people who would be interested in the content glossing over it because the subject makes no sense to them (obviously talking about acquisition rather than retention)

Scripts that filter words are superior in that way ;p

Isn't learning about the board culture part of joining a community?
Newbies click on it cause they don't know what it is, see the content and become interested in it.

Well that is a possibility, you're talking about the vast minority then, the tags in front of the threads help draw attention to it.
A thread titled "[KYT] *username*" draws attention quicker then "Know your Temps *username*" or "kyt *username*"
Then again, KYT gets a new session every 72 hours and is bumped several times a day.

If I may throw in my two cents, I think it should stay as is.

The abbreviation here on the temp has always meant "know your temp", never that pedo lingo. And I agree that smaller tags are more eye-grabbing and quicker identified than Those that are written out.

There are tools that can be used to filter out certain words or in this case abbreviations should you find the need and replace them with something else. I think that would be the best option, since (as far as we know) there might only be a few people affected by Know Your Temp in such a way. Changing the classic tag for everyone when only a few people are affected seems unreasonable imho.

Uh... pass?
To be honest it's really nothing to do with me... when people start talking about "board culture" it's a reminder that some people take membership of web forums way more seriously than I do...

Abbreviations in general probably piss me off because I'm a moody old fart, I guess. The amount of times I see them on websites when I'm trying to find information about some subject or another and I have to head off to urban dictionary or whatever to try and figure out what some obscure combination of letters stand for and if they're actually relevant or not just irritates me.

Abbreviations were a helpful money-saving tool when we were limited to 160 characters in an SMS message... in today's world they just make everything more obscure for no good reason.

Guess they're more integrated in society then we think.
The old SMS service was horrible with the 160 char limit indeed.

Ok guys just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who has commented here with good or bad comments. Yesterday has been really good for me and I'm glad this thread was created because it helped me to understand I still have a lot of things to work through. I'm now seeking the help I need and it's all because of you guys comments like I said good and bad. From today I refuse to be defined by what previously happened from today I will move forward and enjoy every second of life I still have left I guess in computer terms you could say I'm rebooting myself so welcome everyone to Marko76 2.0 lol yes there will probably be some glitches along the way but they will no longer define me.

Once again thanks to everyone who commented
