I get paid tomorrow and was thinking about picking up ARMS. Anyway, I don't have any Switch friends and also mostly play games alone. Is this game worth getting? If I don't have someone to play with, does game have an online aspect? Thoughts appreciated :)

The game has online-play. You can fight it out, volley ball and among other options to choose from.

ARMS is very similar to the play style of Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi/Xenoverse or J-Stars Victory Vs so if you've played any of these then this will feel right at home.

ARMS is a great game to play with friends. I would suggest joining a discord or exchanging friend codes with some tempers, and learning the basics so you don't get really salty.

If you don't want to do that, then buy a few $10 games (like Blaster Master Zero with an excellent review by @Sonic Angel Knight) and a little more expensive game like Shovel Knight or Puyo Puyo Tetris

There's a Blaster Master Zero demo on the eShop so try that if you've not yet. It's really fun and if you have the Pokkén controller it makes it even better.

Oh, and I actually enjoy the Grand Prix. It gives me a chance to warm up, and it feels wrong if I don't beat levels 1-7 with every character

It's very fun, but only if you're into 3D boxing style of games. It may appear to be repetitive or simplistic on the surface, but underneath there's a lot of strategy to consider.

I'm not saying this as a total bad thing but is just my opinion. "The game looks like they ruined Punch out."
Ignoring that, like it was mentioned earlier, a demo for blaster master zero exist on nintnedo eshop and I wrote a review of it, also recommend it. 2 dlc characters Azure striker Gunvolt and Eroko (From gal gun) exist for the game with more updates to come exist for a low price of 10$. I also suggest getting Mighty Gunvolt burst which i also am reviewing and will be published sometime this week both by same devs for same price. :)

Honestly I suggest avoiding buying retail games right now as most of them are wildly out of reasonable prices for what they offer. Puyo Puyo Tetris is $30 on eshop and $40 at retail. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should not be $60 in my opinion, but nintendo will continue to be greedy with ports while others will actually sell ports at reduced prices, Ultra street fighter 2 the Final Challengers is $40, a game that is over 25 years old updated once again adding 2 new characters, some minor tweaks and balances, some extra game modes, is not really worth that much. Super Bomber man R a game that hasn't had a new game since PSN and XBOX Live arcade which was over 5 years ago, should least be reduced to indie status and be digital only for less than $20. $50 for it is a bit much but we all know is Konami. Cave story + which is basically a steam port is cheaper on steam than the switch port. I dunno if anything else was added for switch exclusive but again $30 is a bit much for a game which was Freeware>Wiiware>DSIshop>Steam>3DS>Switch.

Keep in mind these are just personal opinions. You are free to purchase the games you wish. But I strongly recommend a discount for most of the retail games. There is a few Download indie game gems on eshop like shovel knight Shantae, Wonderboy, which is about $20 and some which are less like blaster master zero and mighty gunvolt burst and all the neo geo arcade ports. Honestly I only purchased 4 games so far and I only plan to get 3 more currently as far as i seen for this year. Shovel Knight, Shantae and Wonderboy are great games but $5 less would make them about perfect. So far Inti creates have been pricing the games they publish at affordable prices and worth it for the price as well, is nothing short of shallow.

While I do like playing ARMS but I would only really recommend it to someone else if theyre really into the competitive aspect of fighting games because content wise its pretty bare bones and most of your enjoyment will come from playing online in either ranked mode or party mode. If you are okay with this go ahead and get it because it is pretty fun once you get good at it

Arms is a great game. Basketball, volleyball and a few different fight setups will probably frustrate you though. A 1 v 1 is fun. 2 v 2 is okay but can be chaotic. A 3 for all is brutal. It is completed chaos. I try to hang back and let two people fight it out first.

The last time I played I had a 4 for all. That's too much. Using the joycons vs a "controller" both have irritating nuances. I can move how I want with a controller but often times trying to block is too hard. I can block well with only joycons but am limited otherwise.

It's a game that takes a bit of time. Single player is good practice BUT the CPU rarely makes mistakes on higher levels. I can win 20+ matches and enough to where it starts me with 75 or 50% health! The computer tortures me on level 3. Good luck.

The AI is really challenging in ARMs even at most of the middle difficulty levels. Having other people to play local with is great, but there's also plenty to enjoy for one player between online and AI matches.

I played ARMs during a long car ride recently. I took the joy cons off and put Switch in the back of its case, angled toward me on my lap. It was a blast and the controls worked just as well as they do on a TV, though passing cars must have thought I was insane or having a seizure. People really under-rate the idea of a portable Wii and the possibilities that presents.

I think its a really really great game! its nice and simple to pick up and play and soon as you have learned the basic controls of the game properly, then there's fantastic fun to be had. I have noticed though if you go into the game button bashing away it doesn't work well, you need to play this game tactically don't go into matches just button bashing all the time because you will just lose further down the Grand Prix matches very quickly and also you will lose interest in the game very quickly. Its a lot like Mario Kart 8 in a way you have to learn how to play it properly with the controls using your fighter for every tight tactical punch thrown and this will make you a great fighter, just the same as MK8 using your drivers controls really really well tight & tactically, you will then progress further on the game that way. I love Arms a well worthy purchase in my opinion!

Bit of a minor question, but has anyone found the voice actor credits for the game? I originally thought the vocals were provided by developers/localizers, but everyone sounds a little too professional upon multiple listens.
