"Free" (Ads) Retro Sega Games on Mobile from Sega Forever

Sega has announced their brand new "free" (read: ad-filled) "service" Sega Forever, which offers classic Sega games on Android and iOS. Sega Forever will launch tomorrow (the 6/22) with some classic titles like Altered Beast, Sonic The Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, and Phantasy Star 2, but also promises games from every Sega console including the SG-1000, Master System, Genesis, and even the Saturn and the Dreamcast. SG-1000 through Genesis games are supposedly going to be emulated, but Saturn and Dreamcast games will be full mobile "ports", meaning we'll finally get some proper Saturn gaming on Android!

Each game also comes with "up-to-date" fetures, like cloud saves, touch controls and leaderboards, and Sega promises to add new games "Every two weeks". If you don't like ads, you can optionally get rid of them for a measily $2 in-app purchase, or you can just deal with the ads and enjoy some free Sega games.

This is definitely some interesting news, the fact that Saturn and Dreamcast games may finally be easily playable on mobile devices without having to resort to emulation is pretty great news, and while touch controls are awful in most cases, the fact that these games will feature controller support means we'll have a great way to play those hard-to-emulate games on the go...as long as Sega ports the right ones (Panzer Dragoon series plx).

If any want to keep on playing the games legally for free but without ads on Android then install AdAway. The phone needs to be rooted, though.

You can make the 1.99 easily on android. Just install an app called Google Opinion Rewards. You get periodic surveys from Google that pay out between 10cents and a dollar in Google Play credit. I've got $3 within a couple of weeks.

I thought SEGA Forever was going to be an app of its own where you would download SEGA games and add to the library than just download it straight from the Google Play Store. Sort of like Steam but only with SEGA games.

SEGA lazied out.

Using that damn Unity bullshit they used with those Steam Sega Classics (which many people using a high end Core i7 couldn't even run at 60 fps, mind you).

Sega, this is why people hate you:

This is how awful their emulators are, esp. when running in Unity; first half is the emulator in Classic, the other is the Unity/Game room.

Edit: If the video isn't okay to be here, let me know, I'll remove it.

No, she belongs to my friend, I might be the guy, yes, but the idea was to make a comparison video :P Did you hear that awful audio emulation at 1:30 and on?:rofl:

Sega can't emulate worth shit XD
Still sounds way better than screeching old Mega Drives. :P

Honestly these kinds of things are aimed at the casuals, why spends weeks/months tweaking stuff to make it sound perfect when 90% of people dont really care that much, and those that do are probably just gonna grab a free emulator

Don't get me wrong I know why people would be expecting better from the official source but they are giving this shit away for free and banking on turning a profit from ads or small in app purchases to remove ads....not exactly a high value asset they are flipping :P

I was going to download them and get rid of the ads with lucky patcher, but then I saw each game is around 45MB. I can get a rom with much less then that, I have save states, and can probably sync the saves to dropbox or google drive automatically with a 3rd party app.
