Would you like these app to become real?

So this is a idea I came up with a week or two ago. Basically here are my plans for it:

  • It will be able to download roms from your 3ds(it would need a sever to download this stuff and you would need to know the link to be able to download roms) and choose where to put them.
  • The ability to choose specific folders to download roms. (like gennisis roms would go in a genisis folder on your sd card while gameboy roms would go on the gameboy folder on your sd)
  • It would be able to download and install virtual console injects (this of course would need a liink to the sever where the roms were stored and where the virtual console inject cias would be stored)
  • Users would be able to upload roms or virtual console injects to the server (this how roms and virtual console injects would be uploaded to the server and maybe they could be uploaded on a computer too)
  • Would have a preatty UI like something like freeshop style
  • Would be able to download emulators from their download link
  • Would be able to launch the virtual console inject or rom you downloaded
So this is all the ideas I thought of for this app. It would proably start out as a way just to download roms and install virtual console injects with other things being added later like downloading emulators and having a pretty UI like freeshop. Now a lot of people have been asking why I am not developing it. The reason is that I do not know how to code or develop for the 3ds. Another question some may ask is why? I mainly thought of some of the stuff the homebrew community is weak in. Virtual console injects is what came up. Virtual console injects are some what of a pain to install. With you rather having to use a pc tool to make a virtual console inject which takes why longer than just using a rom or having to go to shady piracy sites. So please if a dev picked this up me and a few people would be very happy.

Nice idea including that people would have to know the link to the website, but you would have to design the app with either your own ROM hosting site (not the greatest idea) or someone willing to cooperate with you.
Aside from this, there are a few problems:
  • As I said, you won't be able to just enter a site for downloading roms and have it download them.
  • You are asking somebody to make your dream for you. Someone might pick up, but not everyone will.
  • Probably something piracy related idk

The only issue would be the server, pretty much 100% of the free hosting sites are against hosting copyrighted content, that would include ROMs, so that leaves a private server as the only alternative, and a server to support a freeShop-like application would have 0 revenue (unlike ROM sites that are filled with ads), so that would only leave donations. And while the idea is good for the end user, I don't see somebody going to the trouble to host ROMs for free, or people donating for something they can get for free already.

As known as... FBI2 QR installer and TitleDB, just with an alternate server? :)

Or actually not seeing how many 7 Grand Dad cias were uploaded to TitleDB in the past, lol
(I counted 4, none of them being my original)

If GBA linkers existed we could try to inject the firmware of one into a CIA but meh

It's a good idea, it could be easily included into nds-bootstrap since it's the same firmware. I mean if we can load DS games why not GBA games ? GBA and DS games don't work the same way tho, one is VC only while the other is cartridge only.

Would be neat, but are you able to make this come true or not?
I dont know how to code so no.

Well I was thinking that it might just start out as a way to download roms and install virtual console injects. With other stuff being added latter.

  1. It's illegal to host injects or retail roms in general.
  2. Your server would probably get DMCA'd quickly.
  3. It wouldn't be too hard to set this up, but Nintendo of course wouldn't like it. Especially if it gets a ton of attention.

So, I think this would be another freeshop disaster. That's just my opinion.

It'd be real neat to see a program that took a ROM on your SD (or from online) and made it into a VC inject, ala the ultimate injectors. That's what I thought you had meant,

Well instead of using the sever idea since a lot of people see that as the big problem with this app. I do not know if this is possible but maybe it can be linked to a big rom site like that one that begins with a E. Then if you choose the virtual console inject section then it would download the rom and turn it into a virtual console inject ( maybe this can be done by a small server telling which way a rom should be turned into a virtual console inject).

Yep exactly

While something like this would be neat, the truth is they would clog up your 300 app limit very quickly and the virtual console emulators are a real downgrade when compared to RetroArch
Then you could download the roms on your 3ds and use retroarch instead and with sighax out we might be able to bypass that 300 limit.

So, I'm thinking by downloading a rom, then parsing a list of roms (XML) then decide how to inject the ROM properly into an a blank/stripped cia then changing the title, description, and images. After that, it would pack the cia.

This sounds like a lot of piracy talk for a forum that doesn't allow piracy. I'd recommend taking this somewhere else.

Freeshop is allowed here and it is the king of piracy apps on the 3ds.
Requires the user to supply a source. If you're just looking for a file downloader those already exist.

This post is blatantly saying "let's just host copyrighted content ourselves and make an app that downloads it", whereas FreeShop gets its actual game content from Nintendo, and the questionably copyrighted numbers from an external source (I still think it's dumb numbers are copyrightable)

Yeah if you read the op it said that you would have to supply a link to the server. Well that was just one idea I thought of getting the roms/injects. A dev can figure it out a different way like somehow connecting to a rom site that is already out like that one that begins with a E. Then we host a sever that tells the progam how to install each rom. The dev can also think of a better way to do it than the 2 ways I thought of.
