As I said on FB, it sounds like Ubisoft wanted to do a mega man cross over. When Capcom said no, they went with plan B and got Nintendo to lend them Mario.

Considering how misplace this all is, they may as well keep it for the game and marketing.
On a side note, for what they are trying to go for, Daisy should have at least been one of the players, if not in place for Peach.
That explains things.
Oh well, at least we got #selfieprincess out of it. She better make it to SSBS
