Sadly things in time age, get replaced with superior or just newer stuff.
If you want to leave or start a form of legacy/preservation. start making a topic yourself about it, documenting the info, applications and home brew recommended for it.
You could say this is not what you want because you wish to "continue" modification and exploitation, but it'll help bring up interest by people who have a system and who might pick it up again after a time.

Much like I've done for the Wii, which i bought about a month ago without ever owning one, mostly finding old un-updated topics and people who hold onto older methods: https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-best-wii-homebrew-applications-2017.463257/

i most likely will start one above for the Nintendo DS in general, if one if wanted.

Also, why not make a topic documenting what dsiware that is dumpted, collect it all yourself, and requesting people it?

Yes, that is what I must do,
For the sake of mostly irrelevant and outdated technology!, IT SHALL LIVE ON!

Great idea btw, sad to say I would probably never thought to do that...

Also, what type of security does the DSi use? If someone were to get unsigned code execution on the DSi, does the code have access to all the hardware? Or is it userland per say?
There's no userland/kernel distinction because the DSi doesn't have an operating system once a title starts running, not even a kernel like Wii IOS

There are hardware-enforced permissions, comparable to OTP on/off on 3DS: one permission is for storage access (both nand and sd), another for slot-1, and other "minor" ones for cameras, etc

That's why of the 3 main ways to run DSi homebrew (DSiware exploits; Biggest Loser; iEvolution) each has different compatibility

The current DSi scene, last time I checked, allowed for app/srl/nds injection, so we can create "custom" titles recycling the permissions of a suitable retail game; but we haven't gotten to arbitrarily setting them, so for instance we can't install a slot1<>sd save manager unless someone were to leak a (not proven to exist) retail version of TwlNMenu

Dsi was never properly hacked and was given up on when the 3ds released. I still have a ds lite and a dsixl. They just collect dust, but i had many hours of fun with them before 3ds came out.

The problem with the dsi is that the functionality of it wasn't enough to be considered a brand new system vs the ds and ds lite. The situation is similar to the "new" 3ds, If you think of the dsi as the "new" ds lite. Admittedly, there was more dsi exclusive stuff than there is new 3ds stuff, but there wasn't enough.

The 3ds is in the same situation. Looking back, ppl will remember the 3ds as a whole, not o3ds and n3ds as separate entities. Just like now when someone says ds, there's not much reason to differentiate the ds from the dsi other than being picky.

I do agree that the dsiware deserves preservation for preservation's sake, but c'mon, how many of those titles are actually worth playing?

true, tbh there are only a couple of game that i care that much about..., but again, for preservation's sake its worth tracking them down now, as to not lose them in the future.

Of course people still care about their DSi's, many people are still having lots of fun with them and passing them down the generations of their families etc, just some of them are too young to go on forums or probably use the facebook groups as they are more popular these days.

I had a DSi when I was quite younger, one of my first handheld & game device tbh

Its what got me in to handhelds in the first place :P

It kind of shocks me that Homebrew was never really developed at the time. But at least thats why they made flash carts :D

id still like it to be hacked i have a 3ds but ds games look better on the dsi people just say get a flash card which is why it is likely not properly hacked but with srl loader to can run games off the sd if the compatibility gets good enough it can replace flash cards its just cool to run stuff off the sd you know you could run Gamecube games on the Wii off the sd

I like the DSi because it has a very nice screen. The DSi enhancements on certain games aren't all that great. There are some pretty good DSiware games.

Mainly I just like the screen.
