Homebrew Has anyone managed to unbrick a system using B9S and a hardmod?

The sleep mode switch acts as a closed lid.
My bad. I didn't get the idea that this is based on sleep mode at first. I initially thought it's to do with waking from full power off like the official recovery mode while a closed lid somehow trigger some secret mode.

No. It isn't. This is a special recovery mode that is only triggered by pressing certain buttons on your 3DS while the lid is closed, which is the same as booting it into sleep mode. If it is the same for the 2DS, most likely you'll be holding the switch and buttons while powering on.

My initial thought: Fully powered off 3DS + closed lid trick + buttons combo = new method

Reality: 3ds in sleep mode + buttons combo

So the difference lies with powering off 3DS vs sleep mode which I initially misinterpreted.

Note: The official safemode requires fully powered off 3DS console https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Recovery_Mode

I was thinking in terms of existing bricks - I still have a bricked N3DS that I installed the wrong 2.1 update files to.
You're going to be able to use a DS flashcart as a hardmod. Possibly only Acekard 2i will work, but I'm hoping for others. Normatt (not sure of name) is supposed to be working on it, though I don't think he's ever posted on the subject, all info has come through others.
Well it's possible with a hardmod, I just unbricked a n3ds that had been updated from 2.1 to latest while still on o3ds FW,

But I did run into a issue, for some reason the tool used for the hardmod sighax causes a blue screen if you restore both firm0 and firm1 so I finally just manually restored a sighax firm0 and brought it back to life, maybe there is a firm mismatch on the system or something, but I would have thought a valid firm0 would have trumped a corrupt firm1

But either way, sighax saved a 3ds :)

This same thing happened to me the other day with my 2ds, and you say you did this without a hardmod? Could you please tell me the tools you used to get it unbricked?

nope I hard modded the system, the owner had sent me it about 2/3 months ago bricks and the nand dump they included was garbage, so its just been sat there awaiting the release of sighax, its finally done

Let say I have a corrupted NAND back up (which was the cause of the brick in the first place), would I still need hard mod to unbrick or the "pandora" 3DS version based on NTRboothax would eventually work with the corrupted NAND back up without hard modding?

Any brick can be fixed via hardmod, to make things easier it's best to know what firm it was bricked on, if you don't know, well you have to flash every firmware until you find the correct one.
with the only exception of if someone flashed a corrupt nand backup that had a corrupt firm section, or flashed a nand backup from another system without making a nand backup first,

those bricks would only be recoverable with the ntrboothax

oh and gateway bricks (not that anyone has had one if forever) would also need the old raspberry pi setup to unbrick

TL DR: a hardmod can fix bricks in 99% of situations

ntrboothax can fix bricks in 99.99% of situation(if/when it's made possible)
