The thing is that A9HL and Sighax are similar. Apparently Sighax has a faster boot (but who cares really ? ). But the main advantage is that every firmware can be hacked as long as you can hardmode or can do a DSIwarehax with another hacked 3DS.

And if you use Luma3ds, the update will only work on boot9strap from 7.1 and onwards.

Most, if not all homebrew that isn't CIA will only work on B9S or Sighax in the future. You're more protected with B9S in the future since you most likely can do a heck of a lot more with it than A9LH.

But for now? You don't really notice anything, it's still new. I would still recommend you update, it take less than 5 Minutes and you will be ready to go and keep enjoying the 3DS like nothing have changed.

I do have one question: is it possible to directly sighax a <11.3 console (w/o DSiWare or hardmod) or is it actually necessary to a9lhax it first?

Because pretty much all cfws will be sighax based from now on. Other than that, there's more stability permanent hax, since it can't be patched.

We were able to have true cfw with a9lh, and we still can. Nobody wants to develop it though because it's a pain in the arse. There's some Linux ports already, but they're still super early and are super unstable.

11.3 and earlier can be sighaxed directly in less than 30 minutes. You don't need to install A9LH first.

Ok, that's the impression I got from 3ds.guide, I was just a bit confused because the OP makes it sound like that's not the case

Not exactly. A9lh didn't let you have "true" custom firmware since you still needed to use Ninty's FIRM code. Thus, the best you could do with a9lh is custom ctrnandware since the available payload space in FIRM was so limited.

Exactly, as long as we used the right firm code. That's how the Linux implementations were doing it, as limited as they are. Sighax allows more of that, but, again, nobody wants to develop it. Which is why it's useless to talk about.

Literally the only difference is the location of the firmware binary. If that's what distinguishes "true" CFW from "fake" CFW, then I guess that means booting a PC from anything other than the primary hard drive brings up a "fake" operating system.

Was another exploit that required DSi games from the eshop and modifying them. You system transferred the exploited game to your system, and you ran the modified game on your target system. It's not hard. I still have the original game/fieldrunners on one of my systems, and I can offer this as a thing as well.

Nope, just the one software on the modified one, and then you'd either system transfer back to the original modified one OR continue modifying the systems. You'd need to do the more complicated version - https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(dsiware-game-injection)
