how do u guys mess up these screws? lol I have a collection of screwdrivers from torx to triwing to philips head with low gauges. I've never had such problems with any of my systems.
Improperly sized screwdriver is the most common way, but it can also sometimes happen very quickly when the screws are machined in too tight and inadequate pressure is applied to the screwdriver. I stripped three of the four screws when switching out the PS3 HDD. PS4 fortunately went much more smoothly. There were little bumpers on the screws to prevent them from being machined in too tight.

Go for it, but do it gently enough to where only the loops around the screws break. Don't wanna crack your plate.
There is a tiny bend/snap line from one of the screws to about halfway down, think I should keep going. Also I don't care if some comes off since I have a legend of zelda clip on case (if that's what it's called).
I still want the back plate to fit

I've had no issue with mine. now, I use the ftp feature of the new 3ds built into the software. I only remove the back plate now to backup the micro sd card. it's way to time consuming via ftp. ;)

u stripped screws with ur ps3 hdd, @clownb? it's been so so long since I've upgraded my hdd on the ps3 that I don't recall the process. I think there's a big screw to open the hdd bay, but that's all I recall. I upgraded mine years ago, and I've had no issues with it. I've been dumping klicenses for a friend. :D

btw @Joom, r u whom I think u r? ;)

The best thing you should do if the screw is stripped, is to bend a thick piece of wire, then heat it with a blowtorch, then carefully put it onto the screw, then once it's stuck to the screw and has cooled down, twist it around and get the screw out that way. No need to break anything on your New 3DS.

Done now, I just snapped it back. the back plate still fits just a tiny bit of damage. But i'm happy.

great! if u can, order a new back for the system from Nintendo. the others r correct that a larger gauge screw can usually do the job. there's also some goo u can poor done into the screw hole that coagulates allowing u to get the screws out. if u finally got them out, though, that's great. I didn't realize Nintendo offered new back plates. the last time I ordered from Nintendo was one of those larger batteries for the Wii U gamepads. it works great! :)
