So we have a hybrid handheld console that runs at 720p when undocked. The 3DS family was a good thing at its time but the Switch makes it pointless. It doesn't seem like there would be any point for it. I thought the 3DS was finished in 2018. Can it be because they have no faith for the switch but it's doing well for now. What more games can possibly be come out for the 3ds? In my opinion, I don't think a lot of people will buy this system that's just my opinion. It pretty much looks like the bottom screen of a 3ds got ripped off and an iPhone attached to it.

Is there a point? I don't fucking care, I want it! If anything it shows that they came to terms with the 3D feature being a gimmick, and Nintendo seems to work in cyclical motion where they eventually drop gimmicks and go for something streamlined, and reboot with gimmick after gimmick before stripping down again.

I am most likely buying one for testing purposes. Obviously it's going to work with CFWs, so I am going to need to be there to test it.
Well if that's your purpose that's cool but I don't need one and truth is, all these 3ds games can probably be on the switch in the future.

Well if this was 2007 the switch would be the best but they refuse to listen.

If it can have cfw from the get go, then maybe. However, it's definitley going to have 11.4/5 + fw by the time it's out, plus a new motherboard revision, so the chances of it are quite slim imo.

The New2DS serves no other purpose than to squeeze out every last penny of a dead platform.

Nintendo cashing in once again on the fact that fanboys will purchase anything with a nintendo logo on it
THANK YOU!!! there's no point in it 3ds might be in the switch later on in a virtual console

I don't see why people need to be up in arms about this. Sure, the announcement blindsided me. Clearly there is some interest in this product. If it doesn't tickle your fancy, you are free to move on. No questions asked. To label those who do want it as blind fanboys is starting to get annoying. I don't see anyone get their knickers in a bunch when limited editions and new colours are released when that is closer to the alleged milking. There has never been an obligation to purchase every new hardware revision and/or alternative version. In addition to that, to state that the Switch has made the 3DS pointless is simply silly. It COULD theoretically have 3DS VC so until then, it doesn't fulfil the needs of those who actually want a 3DS. It's like going out to buy a PC because Half Life 3 may come out. I would list out the upcoming games for the 3DS but I decided against spoonfeeding those who will not google.

I want judging anyone for their interests if I offended anyone I'm truly sorry.

People are reacting like Nintendo disabled all their Old 3DS systems and put a gun to their heads with this surprise announcement, Jesus.....

I feel this is something that Nintendo released for people that haven't bought a 3ds yet...

To be fair, the old 3DS and 2DS systems are Crappy compared to new upgraded hardware and larger screens, that alone will push sales, not factoring in not all parents are gonna spend $300 not including games for a Switch for little kids and then pokemon alone is a driving force.

I think this will be aimed mainly at parents looking to buy for small kids and/or those looking to save some money, similar to the 2DS.

Nintendo introducing new hardware at the end of the cycle is nothing new, just look at the GBA Micro which was launched AFTER the DS launched.

I don't see how. It would work on Wii U, but not on Switch.
You can't use two screens at once on Switch.
And even if display both screens on the TV, the touch screen function is lost (unlike Wii U).
You could emulate the touch screen function via a pointer on screen but people already complain about constantly recalibrating it (World of Goo on Switch) because there is no sensor bar.
Switch is a massive step back in terms of functionality (unfortunately).

Well, it's not like anything besides Nintendoland made good use of the Wii U's dual screen functionality.
More often than not it either added nothing to the gameplay experience, or detracted from it.
Removing it was a good decision.
