Yeah, are you using a usb 2.0 to ethernet adapter? There are some generic usb 3.0 ethernet adapters that have verified to be working with the switch, and they do take advantage of the 3.0 speed-boost. (3.1 gen 1 is what they're calling it now, but I'm still gonna call it 3.0)

On what basis do you believe that the 3.0 speeds are active on the back port of the Switch? As far as I know it's still USB 2.0. Even if it was 3.0 that shouldn't matter. USB 2.0 won't bottleneck your connection speed unless maybe you have a beast fiber connection. The USB 3.0 gigabit LAN adapter I have that only manages 35 down on the Switch gets 122 down connected to my laptop via USB 2.0. The same as every other wired device on my network.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Believe what you want. I had the same problem, then switched to another one and now I'm getting a smooth 100+ mbps via lan with my switch. :)
And you know what? Go look for help elsewhere. You attacked me personally, while I was only trying to help you.

That result is somewhat irrelevant without knowing what other devices get for speed test results on your network.

It seems like you were damage controlling for Nintendo rather than trying to help him. He shouldn't have to buy another LAN adapter when there is nothing wrong with the one he has. Besides, people who have adapters with the same chipset as the official one (pretty sure mine does) are still having problems so there more to it then getting a LAN adapter that the Switch likes. Maybe it's your specific router/adapter combo with your settings that gave you better results. Sometime Rarely, the speed test gives me a result of 90+ Mbps. I could keep doing the speed test and screenshot it. Then I could tell people that they just need to buy the right adapter.

...And why dfq people thing you need >2,5mb/s on 1 device to play online without any problem?

You don't. However, the fact that the Switch is getting wildly inconsistent results for different routers is a concern. My Switch gets 25ish ("ish" because the results are all over the place) Mbps down on my 5 GHz network when my phone get 80 Mbps. Switch wired gets 35ish Mbps almost every test except sometimes when it gets 90+. Every other wired device on my network gets 122 Mbps down. No other device I've ever fucking connected to my network has such an erratic connection as the Switch does.

Something is wrong with the Switch's OS/Drivers/Kernel at the very least. It's not because his Ethernet cable run is 300 ft long. He didn't put cheese in the fucking USB port. The console has issues.

I have a ugreen 2.0 lan adapter and if your DNS settings is different (i mean blocking the eshop/system update) then your speed is capped at 10Mbps download speed. If you change it to your default auto DNS then the speed is capped at 48-50Mbps download speed. Both wired and 5Ghz wireless. Tested.

No and no sir. I've been blocking updates since a few days after launch and I have never been subject to a 10 Mbps cap. Also, people have recorded/screenshoted results higher than 50 Mbps.

The Switch does not support wired Ethernet connections. Buying an adapter doesn't change that. It's hardware is simply not built to accept a direct LAN connection for internet.
I beg to differ. Every shop in Japan has HORI LAN adapters for the switch, and licensed by Nintendo.

I've already posted a picture and I get 70+ mbps download when I remove this router from the equation and use another Lan port switch. It's the router I'm using or the Switch dislikes it. I solved the problem more than good enough IMO. If it is the switch, it's the OS not liking DD-WRT perhaps, which the router uses as it's stock from the manufacturer. No way around that. But the lan port switch I purchased should do the trick nicely.

My question wasn't specified to the switch since i see everywhere people believing they need at least google fiber to play online with something. :D

Getting a stable 80/15 over wireless with 2ms latency on my switch, just invest in a good wireless network and it can be just as good as wired for most uses.
My phone and laptop even reach 600mbit internal over WiFi when I tested last time using FTP

Yes, you are correct. That is a very prevalent misconception. Many people think that higher bandwidth means a better connection for online gaming.

"It's working on my machine." Thank you for the advice. What you said is very helpful. I'll throw out all my networking hardware even though there is nothing wrong with it. Thank you again sir.

Well, when using USB 3.0 stuff on the switch, it's faster than 2.0 stuff. But it's not like it's going to make it go loads faster, as there's more going on than being bottle-necked by the USB. Just a smidge or two faster when compared to a 2.0 adapter. Probably make it more consistent though (but that's just me guessing, I don't actually know that). This works:

It appears the Switch does not like the router I am using for a LAN SWITCH. The router is basically a braindead auto sensing lan switch, but the Nintendo Switch seems to not enjoy this. Nothing else has an issue with it. Going to see if different firmware does anything and report back.

The internet says it's helpful to unplug ethernet, exit settings, plug ethernet back in, wait for it to be detected in settings, remove switch from base, turn it off, turn it on, then put it back into the base. I dunno, but good luck! hopefully you can get MAXIMUS SPEED!

it must absolutely hate mine than for a 7.2 Mbps download speed :glare:
Well removing the Lan switch and connecting it to the main router results in 75+mbps download. Using my brothers old 10/100 TP-Link Lan switch resulted similarly. So I bought the gigabit version. When it comes I'll report back.
