Today is Kirby's 25th Anniversary! Happy Birthday Kirby!

KDL_logo.png

It's been 25 years to the day since we first saw the little balloon creature known as Kirby make his way onto Gameboy systems in japan. Kirby's Dreamland went on to sell five million copies and quickly became an iconic character in Nintendo history.

Kirby's Dreamland was actually my first Gameboy game. I'll never forget those days of only getting a game every so often and spending hours upon hours replaying it to get higher scores and try to complete it faster. I adored the music and the silly art style and have the fondest memories of Dreamland today.

And I can't even begin to imagine the hours I've spent on the dreamland stage in every the iteration of Smash Bros over the years. Or the iconic music of the fountain of dreams stage in Super Smash Bros Melee.

Today we celebrate everything Kirby has to offer! Gorge yourself on food today, wear your favorite smash bros characters hat like you just stole their power, listen to the bouncy energetic music and enjoy a Kirby game!

What's your favorite Kirby game and what memories do you have to share with Kirby over the years?

Nothing quite like Air Ride City Trial local multiplayer, although I wish the minigames at the end were a little more balanced. From mainline, I think Super Star Ultra is the only one I heavily played.

Oh look, another game with a 25 anniversary, well nintendo seem to care about that, not like another game that "HAD" a 25 anniversary.... what was it again, hmmm? OH SONIC THE HEDGEHOG DID LAST YEAR! :glare:

Least Nintendo planned for this unlike sega did, cause nintendo said that there was games releasing THIS YEAR to commemorate it, You know what else turns 25 this year, MEGA MAN! God i hope capcom isn't gonna mess with us like last time.

You know, I didn't realize until now, but i was never a kirby guy, only kirby game i remember playing was Super star ultra, i went and bought it for my NDS when it was a thing, I do have kirby's adventure for wii u virtual console when it was on sale. But i never intentionally bought any kirby games out side of that, i had planned to get return to dreamland, but i just didn't, the games i remember playing was good, Kirby'a Dreamland 3 on snes, was a very impressive looking and sounding game, and i like picking the animal buddies, reminded me of donkey kong country. Kirby's golf course, was a.... golf game with kirby powers thrown in, kirby's super star was like playing a bunch of different kirby games, Kirby's ghost trap, or avalanche, was just dr.robotinik's mean bean machine on snes, but both was just english localization of japanese puzzle game puyo puyo, just i know mean bean from various sega compilation games, which kirby rarely had that on. Nightmare in dream land is a good one, had some extra fun stuff in there like meta kight but then they made "Kirby stars in link's 4 swords adventure the video game" I mean kirby and the amazing mirror, and less not forget those spin off titles, tilt n tumble, pinball land, canvas curse, and back to basic kirby.... kinda with mass attack and squeak squad, then got weird when they made yarn kirby, please no more nintendo games with fabric materials, what next, casmire donkey kong country? Kirby had a semi successful series, about as good as maybe metroid.... maybe about as many games as well, some reason is just not as often a kirby game is made compared to some others nintendo have.

I think my favorite part about kirby wasn't really the games but knowing that the people behind this series, was also responsible for games like super smash bros, and also most recent kid icarus uprising, makes me wonder why they aren't make games as often as they could be with the sales for those games that they get, figure kirby would be just as a good seller as maybe fire emblem or metroid or even legend of zelda.

(also i remember kirby 64 crystal shards :ninja:)

Haven't played much Kirby, but the pink blob always fascinated me when it got on the gameboy. I've ended up maining it on Super Smash on GameCube. Fond memories.

I first had Kirby Dreamland for GB as well. and I loved every bit of it.

the Kirby game I spent the most time in would be ( AIR RIDE ) I used to play that game everyday unlocking those squares on the city stage. My dad and i would play it every weekend too. it was so much fun.

2nd would be Dream Course for SNES I played this one like a mad man too as a kid, trying to get gold medals on every course and playing with family during the holidays when they came to visit etc.

the last one i played a lot out of would be the N64 Crystal Shards, collecting the enemy cards after beating a level, playing the multiplayer paint brush wars, or the running/sprinting mini game. I played with my friends through elementary school all the way up into middle school.

They should probably make a Kirby game on the Switch, and maybe even add Kirby icons to the already big list of character user icons.
Anyway, #GoodLuckKirby

A 2D or 3D Kirby game would be very interesting to have on the Switch. I don't know what the hell Nintendo was thinking when they developed Kirby's Rainbow Paintbrush/Curse for the WiiU which was completely and by all means a handheld game, not a console game.

How is it a handheld game when it was released for the Wii U?

Superstar Ultra was great. Triple Deluxe was great. (regular) Superstar was great.

Happy birthday, you little pink puffball.

25 years and we still do not know the biological mysteries of Kirby. But who cares.

I still have the 20th anniversary game on the Wii. That was a cool compilation they threw together along with Superstar Ultra on the DS.

Obvious hint: Not a console game.

And an even bigger hint: The entire time your eye balls have to look at the GamePad and you use a stylus to control Kirby.
