I have a somewhat rare condition. It's called anisometropia. My left eye is a 2.5, while my right one is 5.5. My eyes have different refractive power from each other. It happened when I was 10, but it might be genetic, because both my mother and sister are myopic. I also have 0.25 astigmatism on both eyes.

I always hated eye tests. The only response I could ever give to "better or better?" "was that one but they are both significantly worse than unaided".

Near-sighted, -4.5 in my left eye, -1 in my right. Used to be almost perfect vision in my right eye and -4 in my left, so it went unchecked and untreated for a long time, I just used to look at faraway stuff with my right eye, and used my left to read / look at stuff close up.
I wear contacts. It would be cheaper in the long run to wear glasses but I get double vision from them. I have a pair to use around the house, but the left lens doesn't correct all the way and for this very reason. The image I get is still blurry, but defined enough to get depth perception. Other than that I might as well get a monocle :ha:
Contacts work fine.

I been wearing glasses since i was young, in grade school, i need it to see distant things, i'm nearsighted according to what i'm told. I wish i didn't need glasses, i thinks it make seeing 3d on my 3ds difficult. especially with the "Hold system at least 10 inches away from you" thing. It just makes playing portable games uncomfortable. :hateit:

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also i must add, it was also a problem playing some games, most noticeable was xenoblade chronicles x. Text font was too damn small to play on the gamepad, and i had to sit close to my tv. I can't play that game for too long, is uncomfortable and annoying, i gave up. :glare:

I found out I needed glasses about age 18. I didn't know before that because one eye was far sighted and the other near sighted. When I started archery I learned to use a left handed bow because my right eye couldn't see distance :-p
Now one eye is mildly short sighted and the other very short sighted. I can see OK without glasses except if I have to read any signs. But I get a headache after a few hours.
Glasses are annoying to get into a motorcycle helmet (and super painful if you forget to take them off before removing the helmet!) Plastic frames are best because you can push them in between the lining and your ear without the arm bending.

My vision is going south pretty quick. I can still see things relatively well but I can't read things even moderately far from me unless the letters are huge.
Mostly my left eye is shit.

If I close my right eye and look at my PC right beside me, it's kinda like a photo where the thing in front is in focus and the background is completely out of focus.

Buying glasses soon, actually just went to the optometrist yesterday.

I was born with bad vision. [I have also other eye disease apparently]
It was getting worse every year, i think i hardly even seen anything when i was 13.
Now i have (as far as i remember) -3, -4 glasses. Kinda works but i hate them.
I will probably never get used to them.

That sucks. Atleast you didn't have blurry vision like me :( [Literally couldn't read anything, even my keyboard became blurry eventually]

Good thing you're getting glasses because that could get even worse.

Ah that sounds like it sucks!

Sounds a bit like me and my hearing - born with a moderate to severe hearing loss in left ear. Never got used to the hearing aid as a kid. Now I feel like I might want to try it again but it turns out you only get free hearing aids until you are 26 then you're on your own, and they cost tens of thousands :-(
I hope you can find some glasses that are comfortable!

You know you can get prescription goggles these days. Them wandering down into vaguely sensible prices made the lives of many I know rather more enjoyable.
UK I know but covers many of the things available

Also on hearing aids then a basic digital one should not be that much (and occasionally come with cool things like bluetooth support), if it is a full on cochlear implant then yeah if you have to spring for surgery and can't do some kind of quality of life claim then yeah that could get pricey.

I don'y know what the numbers are but I'm like half blind in my left eye, to the point where I don't even use it, and my right eye is pretty shit too but not so bad.
I can see with glasses, I just have fucking terrible depth perception.

i was just a kid when i had glasses prescribed for me, i think i was around 8 or 9.
i had one lazy eye, my left one.
so what the doc. told me was to keep an eyepatch of sort attached on my right eye, so that my left lazy eye would be the only eye that should be working so that it gets corrected i guess?

but i hated glasses, i was stupid to not have taken that thing serious (i blame my stupidity as a kid) when you grow older you then think about the benefits.
back then i was too dumb to think about the benefits and i constantly took them (glasses) off because it annoyed me.

now i am forever stuck with a lazy left eye and regret my stupidity back then , the only fix would be through some kind of laser surgery and i will pass on it as my right eye thankfully helps out my left one so that i can see everything clear.

@ OP take care of your eyes my dude, i hope they'll get better.

I have a lazy eye or 'Squint'. I had corrective surgery when I was 5 or so. I still have a slight deviation and went many years without glasses. The doctors said I'd only need glasses occasionally, but I genuinely need them all the time now. 20 years later and my eyes are much worse. I actually had a new eye test just earlier today and I need a basically brand new prescription. The prescription he tested on me was like night and day, infinitely more clarity. So much more that he said " I might need to get used to it because it's going to be a very large change; you might even get headaches for a little while until you do get used to them".

Do take care of your eyes if you have a problem. There's this myth that if you wear glasses, your eyes will just get worse and you'll need thicker and thicker glasses as time goes on. The opposite is true, if you ignore your problem, you'll need a much higher prescription later on.

My vision is really, really slightly blurry. But it's easier to notice at night and mornings. After some time,i can't notice the blur anymore.
