I personally could never see a reason for a gaming laptop. Sure, they might run games well, but in what situation was I going to find myself out of my house and not occupied enough for me to play games, even more so the ones that actually require a graphics card to play. This might be different for you, but it's worth asking yourself if you will actually use the added functionality it gives, or you have no intention of getting a desktop.
They are useful for people who want a gaming PC but are always moving, such as students who live part time in a student residence and part time at their parents, or cases like that.
But yeah, the power/price ratio is a lot lower, so everyone who can avoid them (which isn't necessarily everyone) should.

And other similar titles.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

When it comes to the laptop itself though the specs I wanted were it to be 17 inch or higher, 8GB or higher of ram, 1-2TB hard drive, CD/DVD/Bluray player and burner, have UBS, HDMI, SD card slot, backlit keyboard, good battery life. Here is 1 I liked - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-omen...x-black-twinkle-black/5713174.p?skuId=5713174

Watch the system requirements and the one that has nvidia 1050 should be awesome for full hd playing most games between 50/60 fps, plus it's a desktop gpu.
I can't say anything about customer service and the brand hp, the components are great though with i7 7700hq, 17" full hd, 8gb ram, 1tb...

Dell customer service is meh, i had problems with them replacing my mobo under warranty. :/
HP [Hewlett's Package is their full name] has very good PCs and tablets overally but i kinda would go for GT1060 or higher, or just GT1050Ti.

I will get a gaming laptop soon. I need a fast laptop that will let me play stuff on decent settings and I can just plug an external graphics card for when I get home.

It's funny how a decade ago I bought an expensive laptop with no good specs other than a MONSTER of a CPU and it was still crap but now if it had a thunderbolt port I could have plugged a 1080 and play just fine.

Building a gaming desktop is definitely the cheaper better way to go, but gaming laptops do run well. My gaming laptop is a beast, but I did pay $1800 CAD for it. Ran every game I put on it flawlessly.

PCs are an ever evolving investment so it's usually better to go higher-end and have it last 5+ years than cheap out and have to replace it much sooner.
The PC i'm on now I bought ages ago and it still runs games incredibly well (granted, I did upgrade its graphics card a couple times)

As I tried saying before if you go to school and work often and requires extensive traveling to either it's a worthwhile investment for a laptop specific PC especially if it will accomplish more than just playing games.

If your getting a laptop so you can move from your bedroom to the toilet or the living room then that's a bad reason.

Really ask yourself if the portability means that much to you that you are willing to spend more and possibly gaining less power for portability that isn't truly needed. Not to mention again you are much more limited on what parts a laptop can use opposed to what's available to desktop PCs.

Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT buy a gaming laptop. Laptops are inferior to PCs in every possible way hardware-wise. They tend to overheat horribly and you can't change most of their parts. A laptop is good for light use and old games, no matter the price tag. Yes, a laptop might be able to run some really demanding games, but they can't withstand heavy use.
