The 3DS is a better portable. I like the clamshell design - it makes it smooth all over and protects the screens, buttons, and sticks. And even the N3DSXL is small enough to fit in a pocket. The Switch can get its screen scratched easily, and you can't carry it in a pocket because it is too big and has bits sticking out so it is not smooth to slide in and out of a pocket or a bag. not to mention the Switch has no Streetpass so why would you even take it out of the house unless you knew you were going to play it (eg if you're going to the doctor and you'll have to wait in the waiting room a while)?

I'd say 3ds (but not nessicerilly a better system), but it's kind of unfair because we're comparing an already established system to one that just came off the shelves

fuck the 3ds is had it's time. that damned thing used to give me so many headaches glad i sold it.

I'm gonna guess you never spent much time with the "New 3ds" then? Issues with the 3D going out of focus were pretty much resolved. I love it, hardly ever deactivate it now.

I don't have a Switch yet, but trying to compare these two systems - one at the end of its cycle and the other at the beginning - kinda pointless.

Also I remember how the 3DS was a 'major fail' per the majority of temp'rs back during its launch year. Now most consider it a great success. Go figure.

I think its dumb to make it an either or scenario. Like I see the benefits of portable dual screen and glasses-free sterescopic 3D, but I also see the benefits of a more powerful single screen handheld capable of instantly being played on your TV. As it stands now, I'm glad that both devices exist, and should the time come that Nintendo kills the 2 tier model, puts all their eggs in one basket, and only concentrates on the Nintendo Switch (something I could see happening), I'm still going to love and get great use out of my 3DS. But I do recognize the need to start pushing forward here. I can't imagine it would be realistically a financially good decision to make a separate successor to the 3DS at this point while the Switch also exists, but I wouldn't be against a future dual screen 3D successor either.

I can't comment at the moment, nor vote.
The Switch has incredible potential, but sadly the rushed released of the console along with all the trimmed down applications it could have come with seriously damages the overall appeal of the Switch.
Right now, the 3DS is the best portable to go to, unless Nintendo ups the ante and releases at least a proper browser and the Virtual Console for the Switch. That and more games of course.

Until then, I'll stick with the 3DS.

I'd like the 3DS more if support didn't last for so long. That sounds dumb, but the fact that I've been stuck with Mario Kart 7 as the only recent portable Mario Kart sucks. MK7 is terrible, and I've been craving a new experience, especially with them great graphics on the go. Also, we don't really need the 2 screens anymore. VERY few games use it fully on 3DS, with the exception of like Professor Layton and stuff. It was a cool gimmick that isn't all that amazing.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

To be honest, the 3DS is way past its limit.
It's way too pixelated, the resolution is just shit, the CPU is too old, you can't put much more into it.
It should die a peaceful dead already, like some 120 years old the falls asleep and doesn't wake up the next day.

the switch hands down winds due to having 2 analog sticks wich so manny games need, im replaying luigi mansion dark moon and the lack of secondary analog really makes it notice, i hope nintendo will never do any more consoles without dual analogs.

not to mention 3ds graphics are way too outdated now, it even hurst looking at pokemon moon overworld of how low res stuff is, nintendo needs to let the 3ds die a slow death and shift all those 3ds studios into making great portable games for the switch.
