Hello again people. I was wondering could I somehow reassign commands on nes controller for Sega Genesis games on hakchi2 or I need some kind of third party multicontroller?
Genesis controllers, at their simplest, have three buttons instead of the two that the nintendo controllers have. You either need a Wii classic controller or some other third party controller that has multiple buttons.

NES Classic - Advanced Compression Techniques. I do an overview of two space gaining methods.

any progress on getting rid of the black and white mame menu from Battlezone and Lunar Lander ? Also, Discs of Tron still doesn't work.

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum. First, I just wanted to thank all of you for your contributions to this thread. I have learned so much about the NES Classic through these 480 plus pages.

I have had no problems getting TMNT, TMNT2, Simpsons, and the WWF Arcade Games to work using the MAME2003. All of these arcade games work fine. However, I have had no luck getting Jurassic Park to work. Has anyone had success getting that arcade game to work? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

System 32 games do not run.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

how do you get into the dip switches ?

Still can't get Discs Of Tron to work. It doesn't like mame2003 or mame2000. I can always play it on my computer. At least I got TRON to work....though DOT is my favourite of the two.

I wish you could change command line arguments and add games without having to flash the entire kernel.....

L2+R2 pull up Mame options with selection for dip switches. This is what I mentioned to do for Lunar Lander:)

Select+start to pull up retroarch options. Then, you can go to settings, input, and keybind there. If you screw things up, just uninstall and reinstall retroarch hmod:)

So for people who can't find a NES classic, is there any good alternatives to this that are as easy and convenient to hack and play games on? I hear about stuff like the raspberry pi and the retron or something. Are they as easy to use/add games and emulators as the hakchi hacked NES classic?

I've never owned a Raspberry Pi before and I think it's easy to build and install firmware on it. You can use an SD card on it to load up ROMS without syncing the console to a computer every time you want to add games.

you could always get an original nintendo and a power pak/everdrive and put all the games you want...

Maybe this question has being asked like a million times, but with v2.16b if when you want to upload games to the system, you only need to turn your system on without pushing the reset button...
I can't get this method to work. I turn on the system and that's all that happens. No transfers or anything.
Am I forgetting some option to turn the transfer on?

When you update to 2.16 you need to flash original kernel and then flash custom kernel. After that, in order to to transfer games, you select synchronize games and you will get the pop up to press power on the NES Classic (whereas before you would get the pop up telling you to hold reset and press power).

@TonyBiH
Genesis does have 3 buttons, but it doesn't have Select button, so you can map A/B/C with NES' Select button. I do this for Aladdin, Castlevania Bloodlines, X-Men Clone Wars, and other 3-button games. It won't be easy as controlling with 3 buttons which have close distances, indeed, but it's possible to play.

It should just go into transfer mode after clicking the "Synchronize selected games..." button. When you hit this button, does the window pop up that looks like this below? When I see this pop up, I just turn on the Mini and away she goes! Takes under two minutes for over 600 games!

Maybe you need to redownload Hakchi. When you copy your games, dump folder over, maybe it copied over a new file... I did that once in an upgrade from 2.12 to 2.13 and it acted like the previous build. Currently I am using 2.15, but FEL mode has been demolished since 2.14 I believe.

Hope this helps!

I had setup to use the "Select" button as the "C" button on my NES controller for Sega games. Seemed to work ok, though a lil different. Right now, I have a Wii classic knockoff and use Y, B, A for A, B, C. Works like a dream!

This compression method also works to put the .NES games extension with the nestopia core?

Thx.
Rot

After doing the double zip trick, as displayed in my video, you can do 1 of 3 things. At end of command line for each game, leave a space, then add --retroarch --fceumm OR
--retroarch --nestopia The third thing you can do is download and install the USE NESTOPIA Hmod from

https://github.com/pcm720/retroarch-clover/releases It is in additional mods.

You will obviously need to install retroarch.hmod, as well, for the compressed games to even work...since the default NES Emulator does not support compression.

A more detailed explanation of the three compression methods one can use for NES, and other non-compressed games...

there are 3 methods of doing compression.
  1. My original method, which I show in the video.

  2. The one that my friend u/MiLToS_666 refined into a more streamlined method.

  3. Another one, that elierodrigue did, "Helping Hand".
Each method has its pluses and minuses. My first method, I did using a batch method, just like in method 2. But, I like to get dirty and really check out each game, individually. So, other sets I have added since then, I have done using step 1, only:) Sets like Atari Lynx, Atari 7800, a few others, do not compress within Hakchi2. So, I did those myself, and applied the necessary command lines for each. A more detailed description of all of the 3 methods, is in my other topics...

Original one:

Follow-Up Topic:

Several people have asked me about trying to do 5200. Have any of you MESS'ed with this, yet? I would imagine, either the MESS core, or Atari 800 core, could functionally work, at least...hopefully! I plan on dabbling more with this in my free time over the next few days. If anyone has tried yet, let me know:)

Hello everyone!

Has anyone been able to get Yoshi's Safari working on the NES Classic? I have the game on mine and it almost works, but on the screen before the game starts I can't change the option to let me control it with a gamepad. When I start up the game it takes me to a screen and it has an option where I can select to control it with a gamepad, but it won't let me select that option and once the game starts I can't do much. Any help would be appreciated.

@KMFDManic Once done the trick of double compression, retroarch doesn't detect the nestopia core arguing it in the command line.

Por example:

/bin/nes /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-CAYIC/CLV-H-ABZZG.7z --retroarch --core nestopia

Code:
 --retroarch --core nestopia
or
Code:
 --retroarch --nestopia

For this reason I asked, by default always runs the fceumm core and I need to run some NESCE games with different cores. Because I think in nestopia they work much better.. i believe.

So, how do I fix this problem on the command line?

Thank u very much for your help. :grog:

Thanks for the answer, but I allready solved it.
In order to sync the mini with hakchi you need to install clovershell.hmod :(
Didn't know that because I was used to version 2.13, where you flash the whole image again to your mini...
But thanks for thinking about what the problem could be ;)

@KMFDManic Once done the trick of double compression, retroarch doesn't detect the nestopia core arguing it in the command line.

-Uninstall retroarch hmod, reinstall it.

Or, alternatively, you can...

-Install USE NESTOPIA hmod:)

Me, I use --retroarch --fceumm for all. That is my personal preference.

Also, sometimes, memory conflicts can sometimes cause hmods to become broken. Keep me posted!

Por example:

/bin/nes /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-CAYIC/CLV-H-ABZZG.7z --retroarch --core nestopia

As per my other response, yes...nestopia works, too. I would recommend using the USE NESTOPIA additional hmod from...

https://github.com/pcm720/retroarch-clover/releases

1. Uninstall retroarch hmod
2. Reinstall retroarch hmod
3. Install use nestopia hmod
