All I know is: The light is always red but games and updates still download. My Wii U just doesn't like me.

And games can now be purchased on a PC if you tie your Wii U to your Nintendo Account.

What.
Your Wii U downloads updates when it's turned off 100% and it doesn't get power to NAND?
*smells bait*
Oh, yeah forgot that new eShop online thing.

No, I'm not trolling. I appreciate your help so far. It does download updates when the light is red (maybe it's just not 100% off? Dunno.) It worked fine before I switched internet providers and got a new router. But everything else works fine with the new router.

NAND is flash storage, right? That works fine and downloaded games and saves still work.

I'm sort of stuck. I just started messing around with Wii U modding yesterday. I did the thing where you go to the loadiine website, thru the Wii U browser.

All I am trying to do is rip my games, or install games to my Wii U (external HDD or whatever).

I'm not having the best of luck. I tried using "DDD", but it always cuts off. So, I tried "Disk2app", and ripped my game (Bayonetta 2). I then started the wup installer (gx, I think it was). And it just said that I didn't have any content that could be installed, and went back to the home menu.
So, I tried downloading a game that I owned, and got the wud file. The file was too big, and I couldn't put it on the SD card. That's when I realized you have to convert it. But why would it install, if the very disc I ripped with Disk2app wouldn't show up?

Am I missing something? Sorry if this is braindead. I just started, and this is a little weirder than Wii or 3DS modding.

First, if you're not following someone's step by step guide, try GUIDE - Noob Guide to Wii U Hacking. If you haven't reformatted your SD card as FAT32 instead of ExFAT, that would explain your trouble with WUPInstaller, and it would mean that your disk2app dump is very likely no good.
I tried using "DDD", but it always cuts off.
Don't use DDD. Even if it works, you end up with a game formatted for Loadiine, which typically won't work from USB.
So, I tried "Disk2app", and ripped my game (Bayonetta 2). I then started the wud installer (gx, I think it was). And it just said that I didn't have any content that could be installed, and went back to the home menu.
Make sure that there are no files in the sd:/install directory. Of course, you will have directories, but there shouldn't be any files - not even hidden ones.
So, I tried downloading a game that I owned, and got the wud file. The file was too big, and I couldn't put it on the SD card. That's when I realized you have to convert it. But why would it install, if the very disc I ripped with Disk2app wouldn't show up?
I can't tell for sure what you're saying here. Are you saying you converted it and successfully installed it? If so, double-check that the card is formatted as FAT32, then delete the SD:/install directory, recreate it, and copy your ripped game folder back over to sd:/install.

Also, what is the name of the folder you copied to sd:/install? Since you ripped it yourself, it should be WUP-P-something.

I wasn't following that guide, unfortunately. However, I had formatted the SD card to FAT32.

There should be no files in the "install" directory? I had a WUD folder, that had a bunch of stuff in it. I deleted everything, as I thought it was best to start over.

I don't have the WUD file's name anymore, as I deleted it.

I would like to ask this...I haven't done anything to the system other than going to that site "loadiine.ovh" thru my browser. Since I don't have any CFW installed, can I still install a game, and not have any problems with it?

I can rip the game again, and give you the info, if that would be helpful.

EDIT: OK, I reformatted the card to FAT32 (again). I put it in the Wii U, went to loadiine.ovh. Installed disk2app and wud installer gx. I'm ripping the game again to my SD card. If there are any steps I'm missing, please let me know. I'll let you know the WUD folder's name and whatnot, once it is done.

There should be no files immediately under the install directory, only folders. Inside those folders should be the *.app, *.h3, title.* files. The folder that disc2app creates is named for the product ID. It would be WUP-P-xxxx. In other words:
Code:
sd:/
    install
        WUP-P-APED
            00000001.app
            00000004.app
            00000004.h3
            .
            .
            title.tmd
            title.cert
            title.tik
        MarioKart8
            00000001.app
            .
            .
            title.tmd
            title.cert
            title.tik
If it looks like the below, you're going to have problems:
Code:
sd:/
    install
        WUP-P-APED
            00000001.app
            00000004.app
            00000004.h3
            .
            .
            title.tmd
            title.cert
            title.tik
        00000001.app
        00000002.app
        title.tmd
        title.cert
        title.tik

If the game you're installing has a valid ticket (which your ripped game would) you don't need CFW.

OK. I ripped it again, and WUD Installer still gives me the same message.

The folder name is: WUP-P-AQUE

Here's a snapshot.

That doesn't show the rest of the tree, so I don't know if you have anything else in the install directory. What happens when you try to install with WUPInstaller y Mod?

Well, I just did it, and it went thru the motions of installing it. And when I restarted the system, there was nothing there. I went into the settings of the Wii U, to see what it saw on the HDD, and it just said it was some unusable data, and offered to delete it.
I'm trying another game right now, but this is looking dire.

I'm having a hard time understanding what I'm supposed to get a snapshot of. I have the "install" folder at the root of the SD card. Inside that folder, there is the "WUD xxx" folder. And that stuff is in it.
Is there anything else I'm missing?
There is a Wii U folder in the root, as well, obviously.

EDIT: I reread that...there wasn't anything else in the "install" folder other than that WUD folder, when I took that snapshot. I have ripped two other games, so now there are three WUD folders in there.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It said:
Verify title.tik & wup files are correct and complete

However, right above that it says: Error: Install Error Code 0xFFFBFFFE

POke tournament asking to update
how to play and bypass the update?
...use a DNS Blocker? You'll still be nagged for the update, but it won't download. When it fails, there should be a "start" button that allows you to start the program without updating.

Kind of a weird question, but is it just me, or the WiiU scene has been mostly dead ever since iosuhax, and subsequently Haxchi/CBHC have been released? Compared to when the 3DS scene got major stable hax the rate of development is not even 5% as fast

I think what you're seeing is the lack of "teams" we used to have kicking around. Once iosuhax went public and CFWs because usable for the average person, suddenly we were more or less on par with what they were doing. They couldn't tease anything tangible (resorting to nitpicks about things like code quality) and they couldn't release for various reasons, usually internal problems. All of a sudden, the entity of the team didn't have a purpose anymore. They were no further ahead than the public stuff, and they couldn't get further ahead because we'd all hit the brick wall of boot1.

Thus, they stopped being active on Wii U stuff. Now, that doesn't mean Wii U development stopped - in my opinion, that happened inside those teams long before CFWs hit it big. What it does mean is that they stopped teasing. Without vauge posts regarding the secret sauce, the hype/drama train could not continue, and the Wii U board got very quiet all of a sudden.

We're now falling back on the homebrew developers - people outside those teams who actually release their work (etc. etc.). They never really updated or posted that often anyway when you think about it; resulting in the appearance of slowed development when (as someone pretty involved with this stuff) I can tell you that it's really the same it's always been. You just don't have the hype train to carry you through the quiet periods anymore.

In addition to the reply above, there are only around 13 millions Wii U's sold vs. 65 millions 3DS's.

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
