The game to the cat and the mouse with gateway and their haters is fucking borring, just shut the f*ck up once and for all.
If people like use their gateway, let them use it and leave.

How about posting cancer message like this, instead of helping the person who needs it?

I still use my gateway for testing my "homebrew" games I make in Unity and it's great for that since I don't gave to install a CIA every time to test.

But if this is a console is being used by a child, definitely move away from gateway. If you update the system to 11.3 and try to launch that Luma payload you will end up with a unhacked 3ds. Very risky for no benefit

Just get freeshop and don't worry about anything happening. Unless you are swapping games on the SD card constantly for some reason, like there cheat system over ntr, or have a huge collection of gateway format games and save files your just overcomplicating and risking losing AL9H altogether for no reason.

Not sure how old they child is, but not that hard to accept a system update, and then boot gateway payload like you showed him before like normal then...

Its really sad how Gateway was the reason why the 3DS got any sort of homebrew for the first time and how its looked down upon now. I mean yeah its really expensive for cheap hardware but c'mon, it really needs more respect.

The kids are 10, 12 & 14 years old. They usually do not update the console by themselves and always come to me when they are getting a message. I usually just tell the system not to update now until I know Gateway has made an update available. Since they all 3 have a console, they swap the micro SD cards with the games they have on it (3ds or 3dz). This is convenient and when they want to try a different game, I can just erase and replace with a new one.
So Yes, I am willing to keep the Gateway in use but also wish to install freeshop and if possible emulators on them.

The no update past 11.2 is a little scary though, as with this A9LH system there is no emunand. I am not sure how to prevent auto updates.

I have successfully updated whatever needed to be updated to be able to launch Gateway mode from boot (pressing down) but I'm am not sure if I am in sysnand afterwards. All I know is that it does bring up the Gateway games when pressing 'Select'. and games seem to launch just fine.

I heard people mentioning Luma. What's this for? There's an icon now called 'Updater for Luma3ds releases Hamcha" but I have not used it yet.

I will now proceed with the freeshop stuff installation.

BTW, I did install the game & Watch Vermin cia from FBI instead of Title Manager & it worked this time.

Thanks,

Thanks,

The Gateway tuto https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/ brings the console to the Red dragon Gateway screen and from there I am getting a message (You want to boot GW Fastboot: Sysnand ? Press L+R+Select to continue. The tuto said it should be booting automatically into Emunand but I doubt this is the case here.

An A9LH setup doesn't necessarily mean "no emunand". If you're going to use Gateway, it would be a good idea to set up emunand again, unless one of the following apply:
- You want to consistently install GBA injects or DSiWare
- The 1-2GB of space means that much to you
- Your microSD is over 64GB in capacity - I haven't been able to get Gateway to boot emunand on my 128GB microSD. In the past, formatting emunand using Gateway killed my 64GB microSD, and I've seen one other report of the same happening. I don't know if it's a bug with Gateway or just bad luck.

Well, if this is all it takes, I can buy my kids a bigger sd card (8 Gb in use now). I can surely create emunand again from the Gateway menu (booting gateway mode by pressing down then holding L+select. This will not erase any of the A9HL stuff I've being installing since yesterday will it ?
Will this prevent installing GBA or other old school games ?
Thanks.

It's a little safer(?) to just use EmuNAND9 to create an EmuNAND.

It doesn't prevent installing GBA games. You just have to install them to SysNAND and EmuNAND.
