Reminder: The Nintendo DSi shop is shutting down

P7ukCk1nxw0UXlQuj7c_p76a6RGlp-5l.jpg

Nearly a year ago, Nintendo put out a blog post, mentioning that the DSi shop would be closing early in 2017. Though you can no longer add points to an account, you can still download previously purchased items on your DSi, or buy titles if you have remaining funds, that is, until March 31, 2017. Nintendo claims that "most" DSiware will be available to download unhindered on the 3DS's e-Shop, but in the case of the DSi, you will no longer be allowed to re-download DSiware, even if you purchased it. This is a reminder for those that still use a DSi to grab their purchases before it's too late and make peace with the service being ended.

perfect example why people should not buy into this digital crap, because it can be pulled at any given time and all that money you spent is wasted.

i think the legally nintendont/sony/ms shouldnt be allowed to get away with this, should be forced to update its market place to support newer consoles and keep older consoles digital shit accessible.

regardless if its costing them, end of the day you have paid for that digital content and your consumer rights should be that you can have access to it at any time, as you would a hard copy.

Someone said that it will be open until the end of the year. @Ryccardo I think (?)
For redownloads, not for buying new tickets

Doesnt this like go against EU consumer protection laws or something?
The first box design did have a shop icon so you could compare the case with PS3s being advertised as compatible with dual boot and now the product is unfit for its purpose...

...but I don't think anyone who bought a new DSi in the past 2 years wasn't expecting this; even if they didn't expect this and demanded a refund (because the product still under warranty is now not to specs), remember the legal warranty is between buyer and seller, not manufacturer, so they'll be the ones losing (again, assuming someone wants to return their DSi for this reason...)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

it can be pulled at any given time and all that money you spent is wasted.
That's exactly why they have given over 1 year of warning to people to redownload everything they bought (and copy it to SD)...

I agree it doesn't cover losing/breaking the console, but the same is true of physical games - if you lose a card/disc for something that's not new or popular, chances are you won't be able to just buy another at a regular price, never mind free replacement!

Indeed, one of the pluses of digital distribution is free insurance as long as the shop still holds the games...

Yes, but some people prefer having it on their DSi, DS, or what not.

Its not the same to some people unuo (well to me at least)
Um, you CAN use it on your DSi. Just click the link and click "Learn how to Join!" It's easy! I use it frequently.

Well guess I'm the only one who gives a damn, being that the DSi was my first proper Nintendo console. I got it just a few months after launch.
Ahh, how time flies.

Not really, but I recall people quoting that as the reason why the Wii Shop is still up and running.
TL;DR, I have no idea where these people got this from.

Long explanation:

To my knowledge, the supply of digital content at EU level is regulated by the "Unfair Terms Directive", "Consumer Rights Directive" and "E-Commerce Directives", they don't regulate supply though. It maybe possible these people are confusing the "Consumer Sales Directive" protections, but these are not applicable since that directive only applies to physical goods.

There have been proposals for bringing in a new directive for increasing the supplier's liability for failure to supply the digital content by the Internal Market and Consumer Protection committee.

The liabilities of suppliers in this proposed directive that hasn't been enacted are:

The supplier shall be liable to the consumer for:
(a) any failure to supply the digital content;
(b) any lack of conformity which exists at the time the digital content is supplied;
and
(c) where the contract provides that the digital content shall be supplied over a period of time, any lack of conformity which occurs during the duration of that
period.

I cannot see Nintendo having any liability issues here unless you potentially made a digital purchase and never downloaded it. At which point, I would imagine that most businesses in the situation would remedy the situation by simply refunding you rather than providing you service for something that is no longer operational.

If anyone else has a source on this, I'd love to hear it.

What I want is a way to transfer flipnotes from DSi System Memory to Flipnote Studio 3D before the official end of the DSi's life. Flipnote Transfer Tool anybody?

i can't remember where i found it, but there is a flipnote studio (dsi version) .cia file for the 3ds. I just use that to watch my old dsi flipnotes.

Yes, but I don't want to go to the trouble of deleting any more DSiWare. I already deleted some to make room for My Nintendo's digital version of WarioWare: Touched! What would be cool is if a Homebrew app was made to act like a Flipnote Studio client set to receive flipnotes from a sender, receive flipnotes from the DSi, and then inject them into the Flipnote Studio 3D app. Unofficial Flipnote Transfer Tool anybody?

Has that protocol even been reverse engineered on local wireless? I can't find any details on it. I also can't find sufficient details on file formats and how they're structured either.
