Reminder: The Nintendo DSi shop is shutting down

P7ukCk1nxw0UXlQuj7c_p76a6RGlp-5l.jpg

Nearly a year ago, Nintendo put out a blog post, mentioning that the DSi shop would be closing early in 2017. Though you can no longer add points to an account, you can still download previously purchased items on your DSi, or buy titles if you have remaining funds, that is, until March 31, 2017. Nintendo claims that "most" DSiware will be available to download unhindered on the 3DS's e-Shop, but in the case of the DSi, you will no longer be allowed to re-download DSiware, even if you purchased it. This is a reminder for those that still use a DSi to grab their purchases before it's too late and make peace with the service being ended.

I'm not sure I still have a router that the DSi will connect to, but I might dig it out. I remember I had some free points & the only thing I ever bought was sudoku.....

I always had high hopes for the DSi.

The article on nintendo.com states that "The ability to re-download Nintendo DSiWare games will also stop at some point," implying that the ability to re-download purchases will not stop on March 31st, but instead at a later date.

Unless they refund your money, not allowing you to re-download forever = theft.

Its not theft, they cant keep servers up for ever (cost problems) and there arent many who purchase things there now... if your bank closes then you get no opportunity to get money back and its not really theft...

From the DSi EULA, available at http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/info/en_na/docs.jsp (with emphasis added):

Article 12: Expiration and Termination of Agreement
  • You may cancel your Nintendo DSi Shop Account by contacting our -department or by following the instructions in the Nintendo DSi Shop. If your Nintendo DSi Shop Account is canceled or terminated for any reason, you will no longer be able to use the Nintendo DSi Shop. You will lose all downloaded Content and forfeit any rights to any unused Points, which become our property.
  • You may terminate this agreement by removing Content from your Nintendo DSi System, discontinuing use of the Nintendo DSi Service, and forfeiting any rights to Points in your Nintendo DSi Shop Account, which become our property.
  • We may terminate this agreement, or any portion thereof, at any time, for any reason whatsoever. Such termination will void any licenses granted in accordance with this agreement and may prevent your use of the Nintendo DSi Service.
  • We have no obligation to return or refund Points to you, even if the agreement ends.
  • In the event this agreement is terminated or canceled, the following sections will remain in effect: Unauthorized Software, Services or Devices or Unlicensed Accessories; Credit-Card Charges and Your Billing Account; Intellectual Property; Hosting, Emulating, Intercepting, and Reverse-Engineering Prohibited; Submissions; Warranties; Limitation on Claims; Limited Responsibilities and Indemnification; Expiration and Termination of this Agreement; Governing Law and Legal Jurisdiction; and Agreement Interpretation.
And people wonder why some of us prefer physical copies of games. (See the whole Appbox One DRM scandal.)

EDIT: This is the EULA for the North American region. Other regions may vary, but they're probably similar.

Didn't know it was even alive.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

A very small amount of users would actually use it at that point. :P
I bought a great deal of games from the DSiware shop back in the day. Its truthfully painful to see it shut down and a sale of any sort would be a nice way to commemorate it.

I am in favor of physical over digital any day of the week. But its not all that bad, Gabe Newell said he would find a way to remove the DRM from all steam purchased games if some unforeseen event happened to cause a close down.

I hope this was archived in some form... *cough* 3DS CIA INSTALLS* Cough (Quick grab as many as you can) :ninja:

So is wii shop going down as well? No more arcade games or what not? DLC? Guess maybe i should get bomber man to play online sometime...... nah just get a bomberman game or rom and use it.... i dunno, this is kinda sad. :(

If nintendo aren't bother to preserve any of these things then i guess they consider that a failure?

Doesnt this like go against EU consumer protection laws or something? Not that I care much for the DSi-Shop, never had a DSi and honestly, the 3DS DSiWare library is shit (aside from Cave Story, but CS has a native port anyway so w/e.)

The DSi was probably my second or third handheld console. I do remember getting an DSi XL at one point and some games were on it. I also remember seeing my brother install my flashcart and all I heard was "u got games naw". WarioWare Touched was awesome. :) Anyways gonna miss it.
