Hey, I just bought a new small Sandisk 64gb ultra fit USB drive to use with backup loaders on my Wii. My previous 32gb drive worked wonders and never crashed. The thing is that if the new one is formatted to fat32 (32k cluster size) or NTFS I get a blackscreen when trying to launch a game but if it is in wbfs format it works. Does anybody know how to get fat32 to work or is it common that some drives only work with wbfs? Thanks in advance!

I have already tried the formatting application you suggested and sadly it didn't fix my problem, but when I copied over my games from the old USB to the new one I did manually by just copying the folders. Will try with wbfs manager when I get home!

You could try cloning the 32gb to 64gb without expanding the partition to see if it works, if it doesn't then it sounds like an incompatible drive. If it does work then you can try to expand the file system.

I started getting problems with a drive when I updated to the latest official usbloader, I had never had a problem before and now I'm running 1263 from here https://github.com/GreyWolfSC/streamline/releases, I hadn't looked for updates since so I can't vouch for any of the later ones. Although I'll probably try the latest one when I get time.

Of course it could be an IOS issue as well, I have no idea what I'm running as I've not touched that in years. I wouldn't use WBFS if you paid me.

Copying from USB to another USB device is not good, that's why you need to use "wii backup manager".

If you do not use it, you will have beugs on your games.

Thanks, both of you for trying to help me! I formatted it as fat32 and copied my games over with Wii backup manager and it sort of worked. The games take 10-15 seconds to load compared to the maximum 2 second it takes with wbfs format. Also, the game only loaded 2 out of 10 times. Tried different loaders and I could get it working reliable. I could do like smf said with copying the partition but I don't think that will help now then the game sometimes boots. Also, I followed this tutorial when I installed my cios https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/installation

You should not need to use a backup manager if you are copying wbfs or iso files between two USB devices. There would have to be something seriously wrong with your computer if copy & paste changed anything when copying & there is nothing that needs to be changed.

Hello,

@ Smf:

You must use a Wii Manager for game transfers.

If you do a simple copy, paste, it is possible that some folders are wrong "position" on the support USB.

That's why I say that, I hope you understand me.;)

If they were already copied onto the old USB with a backup manager then they should be in the right format and folders already, copying them onto another drive won't change that.

I have not used a Manager since I switched to FAT32 and none of my folders ever ended up in the wrong "position". I convert iso to wbfs using wbfs_file and then copy them using explorer.

It could be the dreaded, "flash drives are finicky" issue. I don't know how common it is, but I had a flash drive (a 16Gb SanDisk) that only seemed to work when formatted as wbfs - not fat32.

While it's not the exact solution you are after, is there any reason you can't just leave the drive formatted as wbfs, given that it works? Or are you trying to run gamecube games off of the same drive?

Nice to hear that it isn't just me that is experiencing this issue. After several tried I have gotten my Wii games to boot but it takes around 30 seconds compared to the two it usually takes with it formatted as wbfs. I want to run Gamecube backups and that's why I want a fat32 partition. Do you (or someone else) know if it is possible to have one fat32 partition to Nintendont and one wbfs format for my Wii games? Also, my Wii can't write to any wbfs formatted hard drives. So when I want to rip a game I need to rip it to a fat32 USB and then copy it over to the wbfs USB on the computer.

Flash drives or hard drives? There's a difference. An external hard drive is not usually considered "removable storage" whereas a flash drive is. Removable storage generally doesn't work right except as a single partition. There are flash drives that work as a fixed hard drive but they're generally more expensive.

If there's a context menu for "Eject" on Windows for the drive you're using then it is considered a removable drive, not a fixed drive.

It is a Flash drive and my computer says is removable storage

Good evening,

@ Calania :

As I say to post a syscheck report, it serves a purpose.

Your cios 249 is not the right version of the cios d2x install, if you compare to that of the cios 250.

Your cios 249 must be in version ==> d2x-v10beta52, so that it works correctly.

The version d2x-v10beta53-alt has a lower compatibility on USB ports.

So reinstall your cios properly in version d2x-v10beta52.

After all should come back in order.

Friendly Jeannotte.
