Is it safe to use adaptors? I always hated the usb micro/mini cables, they break so easily and it just feel cheap. I wish they included a second adaptor for the switch, switching between dock and tablet is just mind numb dumb.

What do you intend to plug into it? have you tried plugging that thing into the dock?
I have been able to successfully use Hard drives, card readers, xbox controllers, keyboards, network adapters, USB monitors, and a plethora of other USB devices on my phones.

This was by far the most interesting thing I've used:

https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Commercial-Monitors/MB168B/

Turned my phone into a workstation running Ubuntu:

https://www.ubuntu.com/mobile

With full mouse, keyboard and monitor all attached with a USB hub.

The sky's the limit.

Switch does not have OTG
Bummer, can you actually confirm that?

This guy also confirms it works, albeit I will try myself just to make sure.

It seems the switch DOES support USB OTG, just not hard drives yet.

I don't have that one specifically, but I do have the OnePlus 3/3T USB Type-C to USB A adapter.
It works on the Switch. Anything that works on the Dock will work when connected to the adapter.
I tried a LAN adapter and it worked. It's not practical, but it worked.

the adapter, the OTG, why do you need it? there is nothing that makes use of that, but a keyboard.
The fact that the switch supports OTG can be very useful.
It could be an entrypoint for an exploit.
If and when an exploit is found (not necessarily through OTG), extra functionality could be unlocked/created for external storage and/or displays or even connecting an Xbox or other types of controller when using a retro emulator.

If anyone should be laughing out loud it should be me, at your ignorant and foolish comment and attitude towards something you don't understand. Welcome to my ignore list.

Also, I will be utilizing the keyboard function, I lock my eshop with a password and use japanese prepaid eshop cards on some digital games, and using the screen to enter it sucks it's not very responsive, using a controller in docked mode sucks period.

So I am glad I ask these questions and investigate the matter, now I know I can use a keyboard.

I plan on plugging it into the consoles USB not the dock, you can already plug things into the dock.
Why not just connect though the dock? It's not like there's some sort of virtual firewall on the thing, and someone has already killed a monitor by plugging the Switch into it.

Also, I'm pretty sure USB OTG has been depreciated in USB 3.1 and it's just called USB host mode or something.
Plus I really don't see what's so special about it anyways. The Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 all have USB ports.

OTG is the standard for mobile devices and will always be called OTG

I believe what you are referring to is the Embedded Host Supplement.
And the word you are looking for is deprecated, which OTG is not.

OTG is the standard for mobile devices and will always be called OTG

OTG and Embedded Host Supplement is a part of the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 specification, period, it is not limited to mobile devices...
