I bought two years ago a Wii U Pro Controller for €45 and I am not regretting my buy. Much more compfortable than the Wii U Gamepad, very strong rumble, etc. Best controller for MK8 also. And the Switch PC is even better, woith HD Rumble and gyroscope. Oh, and there's a D-Pad as opposed to the Joycons :P
joycon do have d-pad too, dont they?

you need it if you're playing any game competitively or multiplayer. not only is it more comfortable, it's plain superior in button placement.

sadly nintendo showed their greed by overcharging for it

Not really overcharging if normal controllers (Xbox One and PS4) are $60 (basing it off US prices) and it costs $70.

were xbox1/ps4 controller more expensive before??
i wont know i just bought a ps4 recently.
No, but they also don't have the same battery life or an NFC reader. Just a gimmicky touch pad on the DS4 with the light bar. I'm assuming that's why the Pro Controller costs more.

@Noctosphere

Maybe by the time you get Switch, Hori, PowerA, or some new company will make a NFC/HD Rumble/Gryo-less controller. Maybe you'll find a used one at G$?

I can definitely recommend just waiting because it's possible you'll find someone selling a Switch bundle when they complain there's a 'drought.'

If nothing else, the comfort is worth it.

Msybe there will be an update to utilize Wii U controllers?

On the subject of the Pro controller, is the D-pad supposed to feel rougher than the rest of the plastic? Mine is particularly rough feeling, almost like fine grit sand paper. If they're all like this I'll probably take a dremel to it

I tried both the Joycon Grip and the Pro Controller during the Splatoon 2 Testfire.
Yeah, you can't really beat the Pro Controller. For more casual games such as Zelda, the Grip is totally fine!
But once we start talking about games that require more precision and comfort, the Pro Controller is where it's at.
Of course, if you don't have the money, then the Grip is usable, but if you do have the option to get a Pro Controller, I recommend it!

Personally I bought one because I needed a second controller, also I find it more comfortable than the "grip" controller.

I didn't buy the Pro Controller at launch simply because the price was too high and I wanted to see how the Joy Cons play with the grip and in handheld mode, it's been almost a month now and I feel the Joy Cons work just fine (as I initially thought) however the Pro Controller would seem to be more comfortable and probably provide better precision so I'm now starting to think it's worth the price of omission and will be buying one when it comes back in stock.

PS
. I still think it's too expensive but if you're going to be gaming long sessions on a big screen I think it just makes the overall gaming experience more complete, despite not owning one yet...

I'd just wait for the Hori Pro Controller. It was listed at $30 last time it popped up. GAME removed the listing, so perhaps it was a mistake to post it on GAME's part. The news is out, tho.

I got one yesterday and got to say it is the most pro looking and comfortable controller I have ever played with. Its not a cheap peice of crap like the wiiu pro controller. The switch pro controller fixes all the issues of the joycon grip and is the best way to play.

I own it. Don't. It's entirely optional and not a must.

The Joy-Cons are more than sufficient, most of the people who feel the Pro Controller is "superior" just had a bad first impression with it and/or didn't give the Joy-Cons a fair chance. < My case.

The best way? Maybe for the "hardcore" audience but in "Relaxed Mode" the Joy-Cons are perfect.

Charge grip has a usb-c port on top and lets you charge your joycons while there in this mount. It has a little more weight to it then the normal grip that comes with the switch.
Yeah.. not worth it. Just place it back on the Switch and it'll recharge.

Got the neon switch. Wanted both controllers blue. Used CEX vouchers to get a blue R joycon which arrived in pristine condition. Left one is suffering the connection problem, so I figured, they are offering £30 in trade for my red R joycon. May as well trade up with some other leftover credit and get the Pro controller. That way, I can send off my faulty blue L joycon for repair, and keep playing BOTW.

From the second I began using the pro, I knew it was going onto ebay the day my joycon came back.

In a nutshell, after using the joycon grip, I'm mispressing buttons. Constantly screenshotting when I don't want to, and everything feels unnecessarily large to my dainty little fingers (for a dude).

PS4 Controller:
- That light thing
- Touchpad control
- Motion sensor
- Analogue triggers
- Voice audio
- 3.5mm jack port
- Internal battery

Switch Pro Controller:
- NFC Reader
- HD Rumble (more of a gimmick than a gaming necessity)
- Motion sensor
- Digital triggers
- Internal battery

As much as I like the Switch Pro Controller, and while it is an amazing controller itself, it's not really that superior or more costly-made than a PS4/XO controller.
