not at all.
Mocha is not needed at all.

Faster alternative to haxchi is "simple signature patcher".

I already said i'm not going to include this...
I wasn't telling you to do it. it was just for an idea of an hypotetical guide I would write, if I'd do one. Which, I will not write anyway.
the last part of my post is not telling you what to change on your guide.

about your guide, it's all above the last quote, the numbered sections.

Doesn't simple sig patcher needs to have both of them applied? [2HBL & 2sysmenu]
Mocha CFW does it easily, without need to visit CFW thousand of times.

what? no, you don't need to run both !
you don't understand what these are doing.

Simple signature patcher return to hbl : Patch signatures and return to HBL (does it even faster than return to sysmenu)
Simple signature patcher return to sysmenu : patch signatures and return to sysmenu (does it faster than mocha)
(pick ONE only, based on where you want to go after patches are applied. The name is implying what it's actually doing, I thought it was easy to understand)
Mocha : patch signatures and return to sysmenu (SAME as "simple signature patcher return to sysmenu", except it's extra longer to load, and has extra option the user will have to deal with)
haxhi : patch signature and return to sysmenu, has reload OS always applied.
cbhc : patch signatures and return to sysmenu, has reload OS always applied.

once the signature are patched, you don't need to run another signature patcher tool, except if you disable "reload OS" option and goes to console settings.

ALL these are doing one simple thing : patching the signature check and region free.
What differentiate each of them is the extra features:

Mocha : adds redNAND feature
haxchi : adds forwarding to homebrew using config.txt
cbhc : let user autoboot other things instead of patching signature check and launch sysmenu

if you want a "easy sysNAND CFW using mocha", you'd choose "simple signature patcher return to sysmenu" to achieve the exact same result, faster.
but, you can use Mocha instead, the user will have to deal with a menu and selecting options.
The only advantage to Mocha over sigpatcher is that it has an option to keep signature patches enabled when visiting console's settings (as long as you don't disable that option from your guide).

if you disable it, or if you choose to use sigpatcher, then you'll have to inform the user that visiting the settings will delete all temporary system patches and they will have to run the browser hax again.

I might sound harsh now, but that's what I think :
it's nice to want to help and write guide for others, but before doing so, anyone wanting to help should learn and know what they are talking about.
it makes me think about all these youtube tutorial written by noobs just because they successfully did something without understanding it.
sometime, it can be dangerous to other people.

your guide is not dangerous, so I'm not against it. Like I said, it's your guide, users will choose if they want to follow it or not, it's just "yet" another unnecessarily long guide, but they will not know if you know what you are explaining or not.
You did it with mocha because you didn't know about simple signature patcher, that's okay. you use what you know and I'm fine with that.
I was just giving my opinion to make it simpler and more logical.

If you, or any other user, take time to read and want to talk about all the suggestions I gave you, which I think make sense and can help a lot of people (isn't it the purpose of a guide?), I'll be there. (maybe not right away, but I'll always help)
I think talking about something and providing suggestion and opinion is what help improve anything.
What would even be good is if "noob" who followed the guide tell us what they thought about it, if it was easy and understandable.
after following mattkimura's guide, people still have a lot of questions. it's easy and short, but let the user with more questions than answers.

@Cyan , Mocha IS something good, even if not using RedNAND, and you don't use CBHC or Haxchi for the CFW in them. If you don't use the CFW in either of those and use homebrew that reads the SD card, expect LONG, LONG, LONG reading times of the SD card. For example, Retroarch emulators. Without a CFW, it can take a VERY long time to read the SD card directories that have more than 30 or 40 ROMs in them, whereas if you use CFW of some type, it's pretty much instantaneous. So yes, some type of CFW is highly recommended to use, especially when using homebrew that deals with the SD card.

Of course people don't have to use CFW, but if they want the best experience when using homebrew that uses the SD card, they most certainly should.

I myself use the older version of Haxchi that doesn't include CFW, and Mocha for my CFW, and yes I know the newer version of Haxchi has CFW, blah, blah, blah, but for my own personal reasons, I have homebrew that I didn't bother writing extra code to use Haxchi/CBHC CFW, and still be able to use the Home Button to exit my homebrew. I much prefer the CFW in Mocha which doesn't use MCP hooks, so I use Mocha for CFW.

But anyway, my point is that Mocha is not just for people that use RedNAND, it has uses if you want to take advantage of the IOSUhax in it, just wanted to clear that up.

*sigh* Added 'Before we start' section. This should clear up confusion. [Will add more to it later, if it's not enough]
Will change something regarding CBHC, and no i think that 'Brazilian Method' name fits it.

Thank you, I didn't know retroarch took advantage of Mocha's IOSUhax to speed up the access time.

Does Homebrew appstore also takes advantage of it?
I don't know if it's only me, but I always wait looong (10 mins?) when I launch it as it's "checking and retrieving updates" :/
I guess it's more network related than SD card scanning process, right?

I'm glad to see next revision will be able to install more files than elf/png/meta :)

Mhm, it redownloads icons and stuff.
It still does it quick (Atleast for me, unless it crashes while doing it)

Using either Mocha or the CFW in Haxchi would speed up HBAS reading the directories on the SD card. Part of the slowdown would be the network, but reading files on the SD card is part of it too.

Retroarch takes advantage of the CFW in Haxchi too, not just Mocha.

I see, I'm currently always running HBAS directly from browser hacks without a CFW.
I'll try with a CFW first, but I don't have that much data to read. HBL is getting the homebrew list pretty quickly.
I guess for me it's a network speed issue.

It probably is, but to see the effects of how much of a speed up CFW brings you for SD reading, put about 300 ROMs or more in a folder on your SD card, and then run the RetroArch emulator for that system and try loading a ROM from that folder. RetroArch will hang for a good minute or more while reading the ROMs. Then load a CFW and do it, and go to that same folder, and the list will load almost instantaneously. I can read a folder with well over 500 ROMs in it and have a very negligible slow-down when opening the folder in RetroArch if I am using a CFW, either Mocha or the one in Haxchi or CBHC.

I'm far from 300 files to load on my SD :P
But thanks for all these info, and sorry for saying mocha was not required and could be replaced completely with sigpatcher. I see it's useful for other homebrew.
For the average user, either Mocha or Haxchi CFW is fine, it's just for some of my personal homebrew that I have to use Mocha. And it's not really a matter of that I have to, but because I'm too lazy to add all the extra code to be able to use the CFW in Haxchi or CBHC. :D

If I do all these hacks, will I still be able to access online features, such as the eshop and posting levels on super Mario maker?

If I'm installing a backup of a disc I have, does it matter if I install it to NAND or the external hard drive in order to retain my save files?

Yes! You will be able to do everything you did before without issues.
You will need to run "NNUPatcher" everytime you want to access eShop tho. [It can be downloaded via Homebrew Appstore]

If your saves are located on NAND then install your game to NAND.
If your saves are located on USB then install your game to USB.
I will soon cover Saviine in this guide which lets you backup your saves. It also lets you inject them back whenever you please :)

Ok, thanks! I am assuming I can freely move my saves and DLC (for Smash, Hyrule Warriors, and Mario Kart) to USB and then install to USB. There's no way I'm going to get all my disc games to fit on NAND.

I posted this in MattKimura's thread, but no response. I didn't see anything in your guide yet about using alternative controllers(PS3.PS4). Is there a way to use GameCube controllers (with official adapter) as WiiU Pro controllers for games that support WiiU Pro controller?

Mhm. There is a way with HIDtoVPAD. Some games might not work, some might freeze.
It spoofs controller [In this case GC one] as Wii U Pro Controller. Feel free to try it out and see if it works. [Look for HIDtoVPAD thread, page 30-36 for download link]
