Honestly the only saves that work for me is Save manager for MH4U and MHGSV for MHG. if you want a link for the MHGSV then here:https://gbatemp.net/attachments/mhgsv-zip.56828/ . This should work no problem if this doesn't work then I don't know sorry.

Also you don't need the cartridge in the system as the exdata saves on the 3DS it self so its noth the game but the programs your trying.

Also have you at least played the game abit at the beginning and is the cartridge in properly?

I have finished the game on the first save file. I also think that the cartridge is inserted properly.

By that i mean that the game doesn't save like other games for example Pokemon saves on the cartridge and so you can carry the save to any 3DS and so you won't have to start again but MHG saves using extra data which is saved on the 3DS like a downloaded game and so it can't be carried to other 3DS systems through cartridge alone. Hope that's clearer for you

I just figured it out myself too. I finished the game on my New 3DS but I only have CFW on my Old 3DS. I forgot that MHG doesn't save on the cartridge so I had no save files on it.
I feel so stupid now for not remembering that. You have been a huge help! Thanks a lot! Fingers crossed it works this time
No problem happy to help also you can just use homebrew for transferring and so CFW is not needed at all.
