They can survive by trying again with the Switch and developing its own unique platform of games, not piggyback off the predecessor and cater to latecomers.
What the hell is a "latecomer?" Were you literally waiting in line for BotW since Wii U's release? This is just an undeserved sense of entitlement.

Its not personal feelings when it boils down to common sense and value. They should of stuck to their guns and made their content exclusive. Like I said before if I had the same attitude and feelings as everyone else here then I should just fold on the Switch and see how it rides out. If they want to play chicken I'm game.

I never said it wasn't their fault. What else do you have to disagree with me on?
If they would have stuck with the WiiU for BotW? They'd have lost a fair bit of money. What SHOULD HAVE happened, was them dropping the WiiU and giving their new console a well polished game to help sell it. Them leaving it a WiiU exclusive would have done nothing beneficial as their console stock was next to nonexistent. The "latecomers" skipped the WiiU for a reason.

Are you usually this dull or missing the point on purpose? Latecomer as in they got interest when it was too late. So is it not entitled to skip out on the Switch and ride out till the next console?

You know what, this sounds great on paper but what about those E3 presentations showing the game being played on the Wii U? At that point people have an expectation that the game will be released for the Wii U so even though it would of played much better significantly on the Switch there was an obligation to deliver to the platform it was originally made for.

Yeah, I still don't understand. How can it ever be "too late" to become interested in a game? Who determines that it's too late? I can see some footage from a game released in 1990 and buy that game on eBay or something if I'm interested in playing it. I guess because a certain period of time has passed though, it's arbitrarily too late for that.

Skipping Switch would not make you entitled, no. What makes you entitled is expecting exclusivity on a dying console that's had poor sales throughout its lifetime. Even the majority of Nintendo fans skipped Wii U, going by 3DS sales. So naturally Nintendo is not going to ignore a majority of their fanbase.

They still could have done a switch only release, and they would have sold more switch consoles because of it. This would have been at the expense of many loyal fans though, so its wise they didn't do that. They found a middle ground that actually works well for everyone.

If they had not released botw on wii u they would have alienated their most loyal and profitable customers, the true diehards that bought wii u. woulda backfired

remember it was not the sega dreamcast that killed sega, it was the sega cd, 32x and saturn. the lack of support for all of those platforms killed all faith in the company, so even when they released a good system with good software it didn't matter, it was too little too late.

And if they had not released it on Switch, they would've been ignoring and alienating the majority of the gaming population, including a majority of Nintendo fans who don't own Wii U. So obviously there was only one logical thing to do: release it on both systems. I don't remember such animosity toward Wii owners from Gamecube owners, despite Twilight Princess looking better on Wii and being one of the last Gamecube games. Every console has to be retired eventually.

yeah but the gamecube was the more coveted on the used market because of the wii's control scheme vs the excellent gamecube controller. gamecube is still my favorite controller of all time (analog) and sega original 6 button genesis (digital)

I agree! The game cube controller with 2 shoulder buttons in from of L and R would make it perfect for today's games.

Their most loyal and profitable costumers play zelda on their new switch.

well ok the ones that owned a wii u and switch are probably their zaniest fans. but they have a lot of wii u diehards with nice game libraries that aren't making the jump immediately bc zelda on wii u is almost the same.

You do mind it. If someone criticises something you like, then you'll go out of your way to bash/make fun of him/her for it. Shameful.

Exactly.

Edit:
The screen quality is also far FAR superior than the crappy 480p quality that the WiiU GamePad had. The Switch screen quality looks gorgeous in high definition. Switch! :)

Now you are speaking my language, yay! :P

Fingers crossed that the dev team makes an effort for the Switch/PS4/XO/PC versions, the WiiU was horrible with those loading times. Ugh.

You can just use the d-pad to select the bow/arrow, shield and sword you want. It's not really that big of a deal.

That doesn't resolve the issue I have mentioned above if you've read it. That still forces a constricted mini-map on the player. There are times when you need to view the entire map and it's a big deal when you have to press a button then another to get to the map screen. It becomes an annoyance. It was clearly designed around the wii u gamepad.

What.
It's actually very useful and if you can't even hold gamepad for 50 minutes in your hand then there's something wrong with you i guess.
"Cheap compared to Switch"
>2012/2011 hardware compared to 2017 hardware
Man, you seriously know how to use arguments /s

Still, i like both consoles and i bet Switch isn't going to replace my Wii U anytime soon.

The switch wont be replacing the Wii U for me. It sits right nest to it as which is next tot the wii which is next to the gc and so on.. New consoles don't replace old ones for me.

@MontyQ
lol cheap 90's toy. consoles in the 90 had no dual display and had no media that held 25 gigs of data. If you think the wii U is trash, then i suggest you look at the Atari jaguar and the Phillips CD I. then you will know what real trash is.

I did actually find myself wishing that the map was just on my touch screen pretty often when I was playing the Wii U version.

Though I believe the reason they said they omitted that was because it took attention away from the game. Which...well, there's a logic to it, I suppose. Admittedly, I found myself playing on my Gamepad itself rather than my TV enough that regardless of whether it'd been implemented or not I probably wouldn't have benefited.

nintendo should just kill wii-u support, it's a fail ignore it and focus on switch.

sony did that to vita(i wasn't pleased) and focused on ps4. look how that turned out for them, maybe nintendo can pull of the same thing.

oh I play my wii u all the time but it does feel cheap and made cheaply. nothing about it scream quality at all. That being said I still own a bunch of games and love playing it.
