Hello all.

Total noob here but I installed cbhc, mocha, and rednand through Wiiu.guide.

I would like to be able to run Wii U Wii virtual console games. I can install them with wup installer but they don't boot as you can't use vwii in rednand.

What are my options for running these? Can I just sign patch my sysnand?

Please give very detailed solutions if you can as this is all new to me.

Thanks so much.

If you have to double post, please include a reference to the other thread. That thread already tells you that you need to install the title to USB under both redNAND and sysNAND. When you do that, it'll work. You'd flip between redNAND and sysNAND using Mocha's menu. If you hid Mocha's menu, hold B when Mocha starts loading.

Other option: Don't run redNAND. Hopefully you have a solid reason for using redNAND, other than Wiiu.guide told you to. If you don't know why you're running redNAND, you might ask the guide's authors via the contact info they give on their page.

Thanks for the reply I only posted my own thread as the other was older. I installed rednand because the guide told me to lol. However after research for me it seems a lot safer as I have young kids who will use the system and I don't want them messing around in sysnand where they could delete my haxchi game

Rednand is old and outdated plus haxchi has built into it so it can't be deleted so running everything from sysnand is safe. The only way to brick sysnand with haxchi is to do a system format. Plus running for sysnand you do t have to double install the VC titles.

Would that brick it? I don't think so. If it was CBHC it would, but not vanilla haxchi?

That guide, in my honest opinion, is SHIT. Use Kafluke's guide.

System format wipes everything from the wiiu so the haxchi game will be gone but when you switch off the wiiu the system still trys to boot the haxchi game as the wiiu system files are still looking for the game.

Again, thats Cold boot haxchi, not haxchi.

Yes and that is what I am talking about lol if the op only has haxchi then they have zero to worry about if their kid accidentally deletes it which the op is worried about.

Indeed, sorry dude. Just saw that they installed CBHC. I don't know why this wiiu.guide is suddenly so famous telling everyone to install haxchi, rednand, mocha and CBHC. God damn ridiculous.

Anyway yes, CBHC installed and someone does a system format = brick. As you said "haxchi" and not CBHC....attention to detail :) lol.

Well it became popular since its by the same guy who made 3ds.guide which happens to be the most popular (and safest) 3ds hax guide
His source is here https://github.com/Plailect/Guide_WiiU

Then he needs to get with the WiiU scene and do things properly.
Well, his reasoning for redNAND was something like "Installing things to sysNAND can lead to an unrecoverable brick if the user is careless (which most noobs are)." He also said something about being safe to update (like ninty would even update the console :|)
I do think people should at least dump there redNAND and otp (redNAND dumps may not be complete, but can be useful for unbricking https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wii-u-nand-tools.465386/)

As long as you made the decision instead of letting the guide make it for you, and you understand the limitations, it's fine with me. Have fun!

What's funny? The OP of this thread double-posted without reference thus forcing responses in multiple places. He knows about both threads. If anything's funny it's that he also posted a follow-up in the other thread based on information provided in this thread, again without quoting it. Terrible, Terrible crime ;)

@Jinxpalm - Bet you didn't think you could cause such a ruckus with one extra message! :)

Then the reasoning is severely flawed

For one pretty much the only way to brick the wiiu is to format a cold boot haxchi system or to fuck around with sysconfigtool. Anything else like a failed install ect will not brick the wiiu.

Secondly a haxchi wiiu will not update as haxchi tells the wiiu it is a firmware numbered 99.99.99 which is the highest number firmware a wiiu can be on so even if Nintendo numbered the next update 99.99.99 the wiiu will think it's already on that firmware

Thirdly rednand on wiiu is unstable and constantly bricks itself.

It's also possible to brick a Wii U by installing system titles.
Also it's not confirmed whether that 99.99.99 version patch actually prevents updates, or really does anything useful at all.

Remember the 5.3.2 days where crediar created wup installer that patches the version number to 5.5.1? Well, people still had to block update as the Wii U still knows it was running on older firmware and it would automatically download the update, if it wasn't blocked. So, it may not be any different with haxchi. We probably will never know for sure though as it appears Nintendo has completely abandon the Wii U at this point.

Thirdly rednand on wiiu is unstable and constantly bricks itself.
Been using RedNAND since the IOSU hax days with fw.bin has been without any problems. Just don't do anything that causes bricks like formatting the Wii U or enter the vWii, actually I think vWii just causes a freeze.
