seagate used to sell 3tb+ with a specific sata read/chip
@Madalone What you need is an enclosure that reports 4096 bytes per sector instead of 512. Of seven drives currently attached to my system, only one (WD My Book 1140 - 3TB) reports 4096.

You can check with:
Code:
fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo x:\
and
wmic DISKDRIVE get bytespersector, caption

WD provided a utility to change some of their drives to report the larger bytes per sector. I don't know if they do it for any of their current drives.

oooh! sweet! does that mean i could change my WD 3TB drive's bytes per sector from 512 to 4096?
imma look into it on my side now. thanks for sharing @nexusmtz

I know that. Was i said. Seagate has Hard Drive Enclosure (a kind of old)
"We were able to do this because these drives came with 4K sector sizes and a special bridge card installed on them to get past the 2.2TB limitation"

I have this one
rtaImage
For long time i used my 4Tb with this in my PS3 CFW

I don't like WD. Simple reason, here where i live Seagate it's very cheap and WD very expensive and hard to find ( this reason ).

But I'll chek it out.

At first I was having issues where Mocha still recognized SD Card and gave HDD error. Now I don't get the hdd msg anymore but when I load hbl it's just the bubbles and music, I don't see any apps. I have them on the fat32 partition in the usb:/wiiu/apps/ directory, I copied them over from the SD card.

Just do it and it works great. I been wondering if increasing the cluster size on my FAT32 hard drive might increase performance when it comes to loading the games. Currently I have it set up at 512k per cluster to make it compatible with vWii homebrew. I am wondering if anyone has tried this already?

512k ? Usually you'd have 32K. You'll hit diminishing returns at larger sizes. Once most of the files fit in a single read, or wouldn't fit in a single read regardless of any reasonable cluster size, you're going to lose more space than what you gain in performance.

Err...my bad. I meant 512 bytes per cluster for a 160 GB hard drive. I just read in various posts that was the "ideal" for vWii such as Wii WBFS games and GC ISOs as well. I plan having one single hard drive for all my GC/WII/WII U homebrew...

EDIT: Just to add, I did notice some games did actually load up faster using the hard drive instead of the SD card. I know the SD card read speed limitation also applies to the hard drive. However I did notice the speed improvement on most loadiine games.

Everywhere I read, it says I need to use a separate drive for WiiU, and another separate drive for Wii/GameCube. Can someone confirm?
If possible, I would like to have 1 drive with everything, and still be able to use my Loadiine WiiU collection.

Wii U uses it's own file format for HDD meaning that nothing has access to it other than Wii U.
vWii uses FAT32, Wii U uses Wii U encrypted format for HDD.

Can I do vWii and Nintendont without installing CFW?
CFW only applies to Wii U side.
In vWii side, you need to install cIOS [Custom IOS] in order to launch USB Loader GX and Nintendont. [vWii cIOS, not Wii one]

I am making this little guide to help people so they can use loadiine with their fat 32 HDDs

You will need :

- New Mocha build https://gbatemp.net/attachments/mocha-cfw-zip.77927/ (Credits: Dimok how created mocha and Shinigati who compiled this new mocha version)
- put Mocha.elf on both your Sd and Hdd (wiiu/apps/mocha.elf)
- Put HBL on SD and your HDD
- Put Loadiine in both your SD and HDD
- run mocha from HBL (browser or cbhc or haxchi) or Mocha directly from haxchi instead of using hbl.

Once Mocha has been launched, your SD card will no longer work (that is why you need to put HBL, Mocha and Loadiine in your HDD).
every homebrew trying to access the SD card will read the first FAT32 partition from USB.
so, put your games into :
USB1:/wiiu/games/Title/ content+code+meta folder here
Don't forget to copy your savegames too! (USB1:/wiiu/saves/)

Run HBL again (from miimaker) and now it will list all homebrew located in usb:/wiiu/apps/
then select loadiine and there you go, all the games you put in your HDD are available to use.

Pros:
- You can have now you wii, gamecube and wii u games in the same drive.
- The new (beta) Mocha build doesn't prompt to format the FAT32 HDD to WiiU Format! if you launch mocha at boot from cbhc you can just keep your FAT32 drive for all your needs (wiiu, vwii, gamecube, etc.)
- Very easy to make, no need to do anything risky.
- Easy installation of games (is the same as putting loadiine ready games on a SD card but with a HDD).
- More space available, no need to use and switch multiple SD cards to find the game you want to launch.

Cons:
- No speed improvement. Same speed than loadiine from SD card, if not even lower....
- The same problems and limitations you have with loadiine.
- Sometimes you can have problems when doing this by the browser (the console can freeze and you will have to restart it). I don't know if with Haxchi you can solve this.

Credits to Cyan also who wrote a big part (almost all of it) of this guide but in another post. I just created a thread with the link of the compiled mocha version by Shinigati, the guide of Cyan, I changed something and put some more and that is all I made, so the credits are for Dimok, Shinigati and Cyan.
It doesn't work for me, when I open Miimaker to launch HBL, it does nothing, Miimaker opens normally and I have my HDD structure exactly the same as my SD Card, my HDD is recognized by the Wii U after launching Mocha.
Can you help me?

You don't have to use miimaker to launch HBL at that point. You can use browserhax or HaxChi or HBL channel if you have it installed

Thanks for your answer! Unfortunely Haxchi gives me "-5" error code when launching it, so i can't enter to HBL :/

EDIT: Tried browserhax to get into HBL and I got some "Couldn't find ELF file", however I have my structure correct in my HDD.

I'm using a 500GB Western Digital My Passport hard drive, with GPT system table, maybe GPT table is the problem?

All those symptoms sound like SD card issues. How do you have your SD card formatted and setup?

Hm... strange, my SD Card works perfect, I even use it to install some games with WUP Installer (The last one was BoTW, got installed into another HDD without any single problem)
Here are some pics of my SD Card configuration:
First, space and format:
sd1.png

It's formatted in FAT32, is a 16GB card, the setup is:

SD:/Haxchi/(haxchi files are here, works perfectly if I don't run the modified FAT32 Mocha CFW)
SD:/install (Currently nothing is here)
SD:/private (Hm... I think Super Smash Bros pictures are there)
SD:/wiiu/apps/ (All my Homebrew launcher apps are there, all are working perfectly fine)

It really seems strange to be my SD Card the issue, since if I'm not wrong after running Mocha, my USB FAT32 partition would replace my SD Card, by this logic my HDD should be the issue.

Also, Homebrew Launcher is fine too:
sd2.png

Thank you!

EDIT: Never mind, I fixed it formatting the HDD with a MBR partition table and now it works perfect!

Hello, I've got a quick question.
I've set everything on it's place and it all works well up to the point when I open the homebrew channel and select loadiine, it just loads but the screen goes black, even tho all the folders from my "wiiu" on my SD card are the same of the ones at my HDD/Fat 32 device. Any ideas of why this happens?.
