They should release a Virtual Console app via a system update that stores all of you VC downloads (NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, GG, and TG-16 via a virtual hub room, similar to the Sega Genesis room from the steam app, as shown in this video.

That would defiantly eliminate the stupid "300 games only" limitation that plagued the 3DS and Wii U. Yeah I knew the Wii had a limit of 240 games via the SD Card menu but that wasn't as bad since you could easily separate your VC games and switch SD cards at anytime, unlike on the 3DS and Wii U, which requires shutting down the console, just to switch SD cards/USB drives and the latter messes up the layouts of the icons and folders, while the former allows you to save layouts to the home menu. The app would check your existing NNID and let you download your purchased VC games (as long as they were added to the NS eShop already) and let your launch the eShop, so you can re-download your games and watch their progress via the game room hub. Wouldn't this be a neat idea?

That'd be wonderful, too bad Nintendo would rather sell every game individually at 5$-15$ a pop and trickle them out on the eShop over the course of the entire console's lifespan.

Wanna play Donkey Kong 64 on switch? You could be waiting a month or 6 years! Who knows? It's a guessing game!
Guessing games are fun, right?

I know that came off as kind of negative, but honestly it's because I find the Virtual Console to be absolute trash.

I admire the positivity, but that's simply unrealistic to expect from Nintendo.
It's way less work to just make each game have the emulator packaged with it and sell each game at a completely ridiculous price.

And also make it so they are in no way permanent so they can charge you to play them again in the future on a different console.

Basically if Nintendo can squeeze money out of you they will try really hard to squeeze that money out of you.

Yep, and I heard the Switch VC is launching, only with 5 games; Baseball (NES), Ice Climber (NES), Balloon Fight (NES), Super Mario World (SNES), and F-Zero (SNES), all at full price!

Let's see how this will play out, shall we:

2017: NES and SNES games
2018: N64 and GBA games
2019: Wii and DS games
2020: GCN and 3DS games
2021: GB and GBC games
2022: MD/GEN and TG-16 games
2023: SMS/GG and arcade games
2024: Everything from the 3DS VC, Wii U VC, and Wii Mode VC will finally be added, BUT AT FULL PRICE!!
2025: Switch 2 launches and all VC games start over, yet again, starting with NES and SNES games!

Only this time, actually put effort in the emulation quality; Sega has the right idea and applied it very well, but the emulators they use are absolutely horrible. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see Nintendo do something similar.

We don't even know if the Switch has a title limit, though.

NES and SNES only? And... Baseball?

...Yep, sounds like a Nintendo decision.

That's my prediction, and it won't surprise me, if it comes true!

Is it worse than what AtGames did to their Sega Genesis consoles/handhelds with that godawful audio emulation that sounds like the games have been ported over from the Windows 95/98 versions of Sega Genesis emulators?

I'd say it's on part, it uses the old DS-based emulator, Jenesis, like games such as Alien Soldier, for starters, they use the EU version, not JP version (both are in English), so the game runs way too fast, and second, the audio
is completely garbled. Sonic 3 and Knuckles has incorrect sound effects, a lot of games had bad sound. The Unity engine that runs the 3D hub is badly optimized. Sega dropped the ball, I hope Nintendo doesn't do the same with their VC this time.

Sonic Classic Collection on the DS also had the games running off the DS port of Jensis, I bet. I played it a few years ago and the emulation was worse than the emulation from the Sega Smash Pack compilations on the Dreamcast, GBA, and PC!

Can't believe Sega put zero effort into their damn emulator yet Nintendo do a near perfect job with the NES Classic. The only bad thing about the NES Classic is that the sound emulation is a little off, by a few pitches.

Also, it's cool how the NES Classic can have over 700-800 games, like the AtGames Genesis, but actually includes save states and far superior emulation, unlike their crappy plug and play console! Almost bought this at a Toys R Us last year and watched a YouTube video on it and the sound emulation was GARBAGE!! Not only is the sound awful, but there's no way to make save states!

You know it's sad when unofficial emulators have cycle-accurate YM2612 emulation (sound), when Sega's own efforts don't even come anywhere close. Well, and there was a GBA port of Sonic the Hedgehog 1  But getting back, Nintendo puts a decent effort in Snes emulation, NES, not so much; NERD is handling the emulators as far as I know.

Will the sound emulation issues from the NES Classic still be a problem, when NES games come to the Switch? I hope not because the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U got them right, unlike the NES Classic. It's like the Wii U NES games have better sound but an awful screen resolution while the NES Classic has the exact opposite!

That's the sad thing about emulators made by official companies; the homebrew ones are far superior and I could even play full speed SNES games on my softmodded Xbox, back in 2006-2007 and full speed NES games on my PSP, back in 2005-2006! Even the PSP could run GB, GBC, and GBA games flawlessly! The 3DS can't even run GBA games right, yet the PSP beat it by almost a decade!

One thing I noticed with the SNES games on the New 3DS is that very rarely, the games stutter and have scratchy audio. This happened to me, two times; When I first got Pilotwings from the 3DS eShop and started it up for the first time, and recently with Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, when I was eating at a Steak & Shake with my mother and grandparents. Resetting or loading a restore point doesn't fix it, though. You just need to exit the game and relaunch it again and it's fixed.

lolno, having a single emulator that has the games basically DLC is pretty simple, about the same amount of work tbh. It'd also be a huge way to save space which would be amazing since it is the switch after all.

I would just love to play all of my NES, SNES, N64, Wii, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, TG-16, GG, and eventually GCN games, on the go! The PSP could play all of those, except for N64, GCN, Wii, and DS games, at full speed! The Switch could do it, even better! I mean emulation on the PSP was pretty shoddy, except for NES, GB, GBC, GBA, and Genesis games.

Wii and DS games are defiantly possible! DS games can easily be emulated and Wii games will just need software emulation instead of hardware emulation, unlike on the Wii U.

There's no such thing as "hardware emulation".
Anyway, i think you are misjudging how hard it is to emulate the Wii. It MIGHT be possible (certainly is possible at less than full speed and with frameskip), but unless they can get it full speed Nintendo are not going to release it.

I think it will be needed.
Cause just think of you download 100 VC games. They would all just be load on your main windoe and scroll through all that would be crap.
There should be a icon called "whatever" (i.e. snes, nes etc...)
Once you selete that it opens up into a Library of the games you download.

Also they need a library folder on the main screen ( similar to ps4)

But we will see what happens

If GameCube is doable (as per rumors) an optimized Wii emulator might work.

Hardware emulation relies on emulating the hardware, it is real. The Wii games on the Wii U do this and the GBA ambassador games on the 3DS do this via DSi mode. Oddly enough, the DSi couldn't run GBA games. The Wii U emulates the Wii games, as if they're the discs and activities Wii Mode. The only thing the digital Wii games do different is allow you to use the gamepad for some games like Xenoblade Chronicles and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. The disc versions do not since they run, entirely in Wii Mode.

The homebrew GameCube emulators, such as Nintendon't, even use hardware emulation via Wii Mode since the Wii could run GCN games. I just doesn't work with the discs. Software emulation uses a menu that allows you to reset the game, create or load a restore point, and even change the controller configuration. Hardware emulation just straight up emulates the game without any menu options or any of those features, as is the case with the GBA games on the 3DS.

The Switch can defiantly run GCN games since hackers got Wii Mode to run GCN games, since the original Wii could easily do that. The Switch could allow restore points (which would really help in games like Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros. Melee) and even custom controls and JoyCons. Super Mario Sunshine has some of the most unforgiving difficult levels, like the pinball one with the red coins and the one where you're on a lilypad, collecting red coins.

Nintendont is not an emulator. It patches functions in the Dolphin SDK (included with every GameCube game) to write to addresses in memory instead of hardware addresses, which is then handled by the Nintendont kernel. The game itself runs directly on hardware.

Similarly, Wii VC on Wii U is not emulated. They basically did what Wii USB loaders have done for years: replace the DI module in IOS with something that reads from eMMC and/or USB.

Switch uses a completely different CPU (ARM Cortex A57 vs. PowerPC 750CL), so full software emulation would be needed. Alternatively, they could recompile the games for ARM, but they can only do that directly for first-party titles.
