Is there a way to get Doom 1+2 (and Quake 1 if possible) running on NESC without Dosbox? prboom, perhaps?

Have you tried Doom on Atari Jaguar? It is around 4 MB unarchived (2 MB archived, although hakchi2 does not currently archive Atari Jaguar files). I have no idea how well the Jaguar plays on the NESCE.

Delete 1-2 save files for the system your playing, I guess Sega Genesis? Try to see if you can play/save games again at that point.

I'm still not clear what the 30 MB limitation includes. Originally I thought it was folders, now I think it is packets for sending data across during the transmission. And honesetly, I am not sure if it still an issue or not?!? Nothing in Hakchi warns about it... There is definitely a limitation to the total combination of save states / games in a folder. However, it is not clear to me whether that is also limited by MB as well.

I'd like to get some clarification on that 30mb limit. There are users on reddit saying that they have a folder with 100 mb in it. and other folders with well over 30 mb.

I'm back from the grave to left some videos of Yabause test and also Ocarina of Time in Glupen64, so it can be added since hakchi2 2.13e

Please, enjoy!

Rgs.

Very nice! Do you think your friend can get the medafen vb core working correctly? Virtual Boy has a few very cool games. It works a little but eventually crashes.

Mame2003 Sound Samples, Hiscore, and History support for NES-mini:

I made a repository using bios_images.hmod (from pcm). I hope this is ok.

If people wish to install sound samples, Hi score support (will save your high score after playing, and after reloading a game), and History support, go to this repository:

https://github.com/kaz321123/Mame2003-Samples

Instructions: Download as zip, unzip, and find the folder 'bios_images.hmod'. Put that folder in user_mods. Go to Hakchi, and install 'bios-images' module. This will add samples, cheat.dat, highscore.dat, and history.dat to the mame2003 folder.

I use a Wii classic controller, and to enter the menu while inside the game, press 'ZR or r2'. Then you can find 'game history', and press the "A" button. And then to exit back to selection, press 'home'.

If this is not ok that I did this, please let me know, and I'll remove this post, and the repository. :) I'm just trying to be helpful.

I have cheat.dat file in this, but I don't know how to make it function 'yet'. I don't know how to change the config for mame2003 to enable cheats. But the file is here for when this is figured out.

Yeah, I think it has something to do with the transfer process and why we have to reset the system 20 times during the initial data load.

retroarch is caching unzipped ROMs and does not delete them after you are done, which is why you run into instability even though you're initially under 300 MB.

basically we need full access to file system or hakchi needs to auto clear the ROM cache via command line argument.

Does anyone know if reflashing to the stock kernel image will clear the stored junk from a hakchi install?
Reflashing the orig kernel won't, but a factory reset will clear ALL saved states, past and present. I have done it and lost a couple of good saves in process... live and learn. Doing a factory reset from the NESCE menu will leave games on the unit, but clear the save states, and probably other cached files. I believe anyway

You're still missing the point. The issue you are responding to is not the issue we are having. This has do with having a large number of non-NES games (namely SNES and Genesis), and getting a black screen when launching those systems only. Thank you for your responses, but the feedback will have to come from elsewhere.
If you are getting a black screen, but only when launching snes and genesis games, then the path between the rom and core is missing, broken or incorrect. Did you add anything to the command lines of any games? Did you reinstall the core's hmod to see if this "fixes" the path? As a last resort, a factory reset should clear all saved states. Prior editions of retroarch.hmods used snes2010 and if you created any save state for snes, those stored save files can be 5mb or more... apiece. It wouldn't take many of those to cause the C8 error. Just my two cents though...

I am having the one problem with NHL 98 on Genesis. Menus fine but can't get into a game. Just freezes. Happens with all ROMs/revisions I've tried and both emulators. Works fine on picodrive for Windows. Any idea how to figure how to get this working? Or is it just an issue with Retroarch or core that needs to be fixed?

I can't get the Galaga mame rom to load. The fb alpha rom of Galaga works, but it is missing some sounds like the ship exploding. I was hoping to use the mame rom with the sound samples installed, yet it won't load. All my other fb alpha, cps2, and mame roms load just fine- just not this one. The mame2003 core is installed and the command line was changed to say "bin/mame2003" but it still won't work. Is there something I need to do specific for this rom?

As always, its likely the version of the rom you are using. I ran into this quite a bit, it helps to go off of reference sets for whichever emulator core you intend on using.

the unzipped files on other variants of retroarch do not automatically get removed; We have no direct file system access on the NESC AFAIK so we don't know this.
They do get removed. I have direct access to NESC's filesystem via UART, and I know this because I've seen it myself.

I'm using the parent mame rom (galaga.zip). Shouldn't that work with the mame2003 core?

You can you just have to trick it. But for just the test try. Just call it Asnes. It will move folder in to first place. Then exit and save folder. Then sync it. Then see if the snes folder being syncs first does anything for you. Assuming you do have the games uploaded correctly etc. I know this is different than what your going through. But i added neo geo folder and metal slug. With that being third out of five folders to sync it wouldn't upload. The nes couldn't handle trying to get the 1 big neo geo file plus genesis and Super Nintendo. So I just named it Arcade Neo Geo instead and it moved in front of Nintendo and gameboy advance folders.

Yes. In that case copy and paste the rom. Fix one of them. Try it see if save is there if not delete it and put other rom back on!

HUGE THANKS ---- this actually worked. I really don't know what would cause this to be the problem, but as soon as I put a space before the 'S' in 'Sega Genesis', rearranging that folder to the very first on the list, and then reflashing the games & folders, I now can open all folders and sub-folders with no black screens & permanent C8 errors. I still have the full amount of 523 games (272 NES, 118 SNES, 71 Sega, 55 GB and 7 GBA), totaling ~294 MB, and can use them all just fine.

It would be great to get to the bottom of this issue and why it happened in the first place. For now, though, thank you very much for helping to troubleshoot this problem.

Appreciate the feedback, but this isn't it. First, it was another user having the issue with Genesis whereas I only had the problem with SNES...but it's the same issue. I know it isn't the path. It's something strictly to do with how we are adding additional games to our already existing (and working setups). I have a few ideas, the latest of which is in a Reddit post detailing this whole thing, but much to my frustration I will not be able to resume testing until at least Thursday.

Anyone able to get the atari800 to work? I am helping a friend and she is dead set on playing Mr robot and his robot factory.

Does Stella support atari800 or is it a different core? If it is a different core do I need a Bios file for it too?

thanks to all of you for being so helpful.

This issue is NOT a path error and isn't a brief black screen before returning to the previous menu. It's not ROM-specific or even console/folder specific. the problem produces a black screen that stays that way until you unplug or turn off the system. Then, upon reboot, a PERMANENT C8 error is displayed. By permanent, I mean that no amount of reboots or unplugging will fix it and get it to refresh back to the Language setup page, like other errors do after a reboot.

I managed to "fix" this problem by reordering my main menu system folders such that the Sega Genesis folder was first instead of last (by adding a space " " before the word Sega). This solved the problem. I have no idea why, and that concerns me..........

Well I'll be damned. This is good news. Can't try it out on my own machine for a few days, but this is encouraging. Can you post a little more info... would like to know the order of your main folders now that you put Sega in the front. Also, are your subfolders all under 30 MB still?

Of course bro! Does it look weird on the screen with a space in front of the s? I have 317mb flashed on 2.12 with everything working.320 is too much tho. So 300 must be a soft cap. I ain't touching 2.13. Only to copy my games over and check to see where my memory is at.
