Pretty sure the 3ds.guide made me format my SD Card so it would probably be sysNand mode.
Formatting normally wouldn't delete emuNAND since it's a separate partition. Only if you used, say, GodMode9 to format with no emuNAND.

If you did boot Gateway sysNAND mode, you're now stuck - you'll have to wait until there's an arm9 exploit on 11.3.

Even though i posted the warning on the thread TWICE...
Either stop using gateway or keep his emunand for gateway if he was going to use it...

EDIT: If he has a NAND backup (he should if he followed the guide) he can send it to someone to HARDMOD and recover their cfw like that.

After you get cfw, either stop using gateway or KEEP your emunand ONLY for using gateway. As it has been proven that using gateway on the latest version (11.3) can leave you SoL with an unhacked console in 11.3, removing cfw and rendering even your GW useless on that FW.

This is due to the gateway card NOT having firmware protection (this avoids that anyone or nintendo can overwrite your cfw) luma and other cfw support firm protection. But gateway does not.

So if you want to get the best out of both worlds after putting a9lh+cfw keep your sysnand on 9.2 and update your emunand to 11.3 there you'll be completely safe and be able to keep using GW PLUS getting to use the rest of your console's SD card for more backups.

There is no proof of that is only rumors, there are 2 sides telling opposite things, and I think that the ones that tell that they lose their a9lh are people that updated using gateway sysnand, because there are others that they are using sysnand and they boot gateway and nothing bad happens

There have also been claims of people just USING/BOOTING gateway sysnand mode on 11.3 (which is blackscreen because at the time it didn't support 11.3 yet even in emunand) and somehow losing luma/a9lh afterwards.

No devs have supported these claims since community/open source devs often stay the hell away from brickway.
So... Can you really be too careful when it comes to getting an (for now) unhackable firmware?

The reason I am saying that is that ive read all the posts and there are 2 sides, and some just say I used gateway now I am SOL and there is no proof, but you are right that emunand is needed, even the GW devs tell that to their user base. This man probably updated in gateway sysnand mode or something like that, because he is not able to boot on gateway sysnand on 11.3, he would have explained that he got a black screen and after that no A9lh

There are not two sides, it is confirmed, there have been like a dozen people who have lost a9lh through updating in Luma then booting Gateway sysNAND.

Thanks everyone for the help, unfortunately like an idiot I didn't read everything thoroughly. I'll have to wait for an exploit for 11.3 which could take years before that happened. Till then, I'll just continue to play my games through cartridges.

gateway and all other hacks were killed by a9lh - everyone just learn this, install a9lh. But, I have to say the effort to create and install game cia's (even if you're just doing it for testing purposes and fully intend to buy the cartridge if impressed) is not well explained , and requires a few steps which are not easily available in the common how-tos

Unfortunately the .nds the guide gave me overwritten my emunand from Gateway so I wasn't able to get my old gateway back.

?

It can't have - the only way to overwrite the emuNAND is to restore a backup to it or create a new emuNAND (which will then be a copy of sysNAND). The guide never has you touch emuNAND except for once, and that's the "Move emuNAND" section where it gets you to make a backup and restore that to sysNAND.

If you lost your emuNAND, it was not from following the guide.

Also, a .nds file can't possibly do anything to your emuNAND. All it does is modify your DS profile so you can launch a .dat file from your SD card.
