retroarch is caching unzipped ROMs and does not delete them after you are done, which is why you run into instability even though you're initially under 300 MB.
basically we need full access to file system or hakchi needs to auto clear the ROM cache via command line argument.

Not really.
1. /var/cache resets every reboot
2. RetroArch automatically removes unpacked game ROM on close

You're completely missing the issue. It flashes fine. Your setup is also NES-heavy, so our circumstances are very different. It has to do with the games and folder limits, possibly even length of folder titles, that are giving just the SNES root folder a black screen and C8.
Yeah but I have over 300mb and still syncs and everything is fine that's all I'm saying. Doesn't matter if I'm top heavy in nes games. I am over that "limit".

the unzipped files on other variants of retroarch do not automatically get removed; We have no direct file system access on the NESC AFAIK so we don't know this.

If you open up the retroarch system menu you can use the "load content" function to have a browse around the filesystem to see for yourself.

You could also probably create your own hmod with the correct paths and filenames to "uninstall" remove stray files, if any.

Or just wait for the direct fs access work to be finished :)

is snes2005 the default core used in hackchi 2.13E or do I need to flash it?
The 'retroarch.hmod' only runs nes games, other systems need other .hmod cores
Is there a way to get Doom 1+2 (and Quake 1 if possible) running on NESC without Dosbox? prboom, perhaps?
There are Gba versions, even if not the best versions of these games

Total game size may lead to problems, but I'm not sure if it's responsible for this permanent C8 error brick status that only seems to occur when I open a particular main menu folder (Sega Genesis). Also, I can check the total MB for each Sega sub-folder later today, but they only contain 6-8 ROMs per folder, so I expect the total size for each folder to be under 30 MB...
Delete 1-2 save files for the system your playing, I guess Sega Genesis? Try to see if you can play/save games again at that point.

I think there are some orphan files hanging around that eat up space that we still haven't perfected. For example, I know if you delete a ROM from the library the save file stays on the system, even if you uninstall Hakchi (maybe not if you do a factory restore as well?). I did a full uninstall / install before upgrading the library from uncompressed to compressed games. Not sure if this helped or not, but it definitely seems to be running very stable now. I even added a few more games, and didn't hit any issues other than one game that refused to work with even new save states when compressed (really strange, anyone else seen this?!?)

I'm still not clear what the 30 MB limitation includes. Originally I thought it was folders, now I think it is packets for sending data across during the transmission. And honesetly, I am not sure if it still an issue or not?!? Nothing in Hakchi warns about it... There is definitely a limitation to the total combination of save states / games in a folder. However, it is not clear to me whether that is also limited by MB as well.

No, snes9x2010 is the default. You would need to install both the snes9x2005 modification and the use_snes9x2005 modification to force it. Alternatively you can change the parameters, to force launching by changing it from /snes to /snes05 (once snes9x2005 is installed).

Hakchi has nothing to do with the cores. Retroarch first release has 2010 as default. Pcms latest release of retro has 2005 as default actually. Doesn't matter what hakchi you as long as it's 2.12 or higher to run retro mods. Alternatively you could just replace the core instead of force launching it as well.

This was in the old versions, now is snes9x2005 the suggested one (so snes9x2010 and usesnes9x2005 are not needed anymore now)

Sorry if this has been asked before but how do you add scan lines to retroarch? I've found filtering that smooths the edges over slightly but I'd like to have scanlines for mame titles?

Also how do you save retroarch configurations just per game and not global to all the roms? Stretching the screen to fit works great for some games but not for others but from going into retroarch GUI from each game it seems to save the configuration for all of the games?

Oh that must have changed over the weekend. Sorry for the misinformation.

I missed that he was asking about Hakchi and not Retroarch. What I was saying was regarding Retroarch (and apperantly was changed over the weekend anyway). Totally get the cores are seperate, didn't mean to imply otherwise.

You're still missing the point. The issue you are responding to is not the issue we are having. This has do with having a large number of non-NES games (namely SNES and Genesis), and getting a black screen when launching those systems only. Thank you for your responses, but the feedback will have to come from elsewhere.

I think that original N64 game, comes included with Exp. pak because problems to handle the RAM(or lazy programmation) .

Rgs.
So if the ram is big enough on the NES classic it should be fine.
And no it wasn't lazy programming, they actually tried to fix a glitch it but they couldn't, but they found the expansion pak fixed the glitch.
