So it seems there will be games on the Switch that can only be played in portable mode. VOEZ is a musical rhythm game that is available for smartphones and the Switch port requires touch screen controls, hence why it can't be played when the Switch is docked. What this basically means is that Nintendo doesn't require developers to build their games with the Switch concept in mind. So much for Switch being a home console first, I guess.

The funny thing is I expected the other way around (only docked games), but this makes sense.

I like this.

TBH i think of the switch as a portable console which was marketted as a home console specifically in the west because home consoles seem to be a lot more popular here.

Seeing BOTW on that small screen is beautiful.

Nintendo would be smart to continue to allow this to happen. All sorts of mobile games could get ported to the Switch if the developers want to. Heck, Nintendo should consider allowing their mobile games to be able to be bought and played on the Switch. Just as an example, I'd play Super Mario Run on my Switch.

Yeah, but only if you hold it with one hand.

What's wrong with this? Did you just not expect Nintendo to utilize the touchscreen for anything other then the Switch OS itself at ALL?

It makes sense for ports. Cell phone games, or games the require a touch-screen (like most music beat games). Most 3rd party folks will probably just stick with tv mode in mind.

....Though I can see it now. "pokemon amie only available in mobile mode". hmm.
