Disclaimer: The "Switch" in these pictures is a life-size display model I made, not a real Nintendo Switch retail unit. It's completely nonfunctional and lacks internal electronic parts of any kind. Basically please don't send your ninja-police after me, Nintendo. Thank you.

With the Switch release right around the corner, I made a basic display dummy of the console in order to compare its size against current consoles and to put things in perspective a bit.

001 copy.jpg
The central tablet section of the Nintendo Switch is about the same size and thickness as the lower half of a New 3DS XL. It's slightly taller than the width of an original Game Boy and might fit into a large pocket if you remove the Joy-Cons. If you can fit a N3DS XL into your pocket, chances are that you can also fit the Switch tablet (not that it would be a good idea, given that the screen would be exposed to bumps and scrapes of the inside of your pocket).

An original Game Boy Advance will fit snugly within the boundaries of the Switch's 6.2" screen, while the width of the entire unit with Joy-Cons attached is just below twice that of the original 3DS.

002 copy.jpg
Compared against some controllers, the Switch is actually not as tall as a Dual Shock 4. The width of the screen is about the same as a Wii remote (without Motion Plus attachment). The joysticks on each Joy-Con are about the same size as the control stick on a GameCube, except they protrude far less, while the buttons are quite a bit smaller than that of any of the displayed controllers. It feels quite comfortable in the hand, and anyone who owns a New 3DS XL will feel familiar handling the Switch.

Oh, and the Switch measures 1.204 (±5% accuracy) on the Banana Scale of Universal Scientific Unit of Measurement of Distance.

I can smell some meme user with that last picture.

one question when I see it, it must be heavy over time or does your "copy" of switch does not reprecent it's weight?
Like for me my n3dsxl after hours of play I can start feeling it heavy in my hand that I use indirect input to play via computer gamepad :X

The mockup model doesn't accurately represent the weight distribution of a real Switch unit, so I wouldn't be able to tell what it's like using it for hours.

Afaik the console + Joy-Cons are heavyer than N3DS XL, so you may feel quite the same. But hey, you can use the laptop mode (it's call like that?) and only hold the Joy-Cons, one with each hand. I think that's quite a good option for people in your case.

But what does this kind of test tell us? Nothing important I can think of. It is sort of like going to a used automobile dealer and starting all the cars and waiting to see which one runs out of gas first.

Well, when you've used all of that cars (or some of them) you can have an idea of the real gas capacity (batery life in our case).

I guess so, but who cares how long a car can sit and idle? Doesn't tell you much about how much distance you can actually drive it.

I only say it's interesting. It last more than I expected. I know not all of the hadware is using the batery as it will while playing a game, but still let you think about how much it can last.
