The subject is a bit misleading but I tried to make it as clear as I could without too many words.

Anyway. I have a 16 gb sd card and I have a few rather large games. I know I cant make the whole games fit inside the smaller SD but what I wanted to know if I can install the games into the Wii U in stages. I dont want to have to go out and buy a larger size SD I do have a micro sd that's 32 gb but I just cant seem to get the Wii U to recognize it. I think it's the adapter, I keep getting missing SD errors. Thanks for any help.

There is no way to install the game in pieces. You need to get a 32GB SD card. Out of curiosity, which game is it?

You should also try reformatting your 32GB microSD card.

I have Batman Armored and Lego Undercover. Both over 18 gb.

Now I cant get my computer to recognize the sd card. I've tried two different micro to standard sd adapter and one micro to usb adapter. I'm going to die never playing these games!

Just do what I am going to do when BotW hits...go buy a good quality 32 or higher SD card, install the game on your HDD, then take the SD card back to the store.

Breath of the Wild will be far less than 16GB. The Switch version is around 13GB, and the Wii U version might be around 9GB or 10GB.

That is what they are saying, though I can't believe it. Especially when Bayonetta 2 was around 14 gigs and I believe Watch Dogs was 18 or something like that??

The Switch version has been confirmed to be around 13.4GB. There's no reason to think the Wii U version will be any bigger. There are also a lot of different variables that determine a game's file size, so you can't use the aforementioned games as why Breath of the Wild can't be 13.4GB or smaller. Breath of the Wild is also a first-party title, making it likely to have a smaller file size than other comparable games that aren't first-party.

I'll be pretty jazzed if this is the case, won't have to buy a new card and I'll be good at launch time

I have a somewhat similar question, in the vein of saving as much SD space as humanly possible...can you load WUP installer program and then switch SD cards to one that is just your install folder with game data inside?

Nintendo said several weeks ago the wiiu version is 10 gb on disc but then requires a update to be downloaded which is 3gb.

Yes you can. You can remount SD cards within the program.

It should actually be possible to extract a game, remove files from /content, repack and install - then supply the missing files via ftp/wupserver; but is the effort for multiple games not worth 12 € for a quality 32GB card? :)

Regardless of the size, the point I was making is that the 3gb is an install to disc, not a download.

But the 3gb is not on the disc the disc size is 10 gb and the other 3gb is downloaded from the eshop nintendo has confirmed this you can also confirm this by downloading botw from the iso site the download from there is just under 10gbs

Just so I am clear...you legitimately believe that the 3gb install is actually a mandatory download for the game, when the disc can hold 24gb plus they announced the install over a month ago, plenty of time to include it on the disc. You do realize install data is typically compressed, right? And that all reputable sources are calling it an install, not a download...

Why is this even being treated like a debate? Buy a bigger SD card, problem solved. You people are acting like they cost a lot of money, when you can get a decent 32GB from the store for anywhere between 20$ to 30$.
Do you know how much my 4GB cost when I first bought it? 54$!
