I also ran yesterday in the red_light_won't_turn_off_problem when updating to 2.13. I copied dump, config, folder images and games folders to new hakchi and uinstalled all modules in 2.12, then installed the modules again in 2.13.

syncing in 2.13 was unsuccessful, red light. nothing worked. so I needed to start from scratch, because I even lost all 30 original games. I subsequently added snes games, sycning fine, and n64, syncing fine. so it seems ok finally, also custom folders work now again. The only thing I need to do now is adding some more NES games, then I will be on the same step as in 2.12. fingers crossed, It was a long road :)

it may have to to with new compression feature or custom folders (which I had used in 2.12 and tried to keep in 2.13) or N64 games per se.

I think the main problem with v2.13 is kernel size x file compression. Synchronization fails because kernel can't handle efficiently (until now) compressed files. I've tried to upload just 20 SNES ROMs + 30 original games + 60 NES ROMs, and the sync failed (red led infinitely on). I had to restore original kernel, reinstall custon version, and upload less SNES games...

I'll try to uncompress those SNES ROMs, see what happens. Has anyone done this?

Honestly I think you'd be in the best position to check what happens. It still gives the warning at exactly 300 but I'm willing to bet 300 is not necessarily a hard limit, more like a suggestion. I've tried at 300 and lower than 300 and have gotten nothing but failed syncs when it comes to 2.13 other than using very small amounts of games. I think it would be hard for anyone to truly see what happens unless they do what you did and carried over the exact same settings that worked on 2.12 but happened to be over 300, otherwise it would be hard to tell if any problems are because of the size or whatever error I'm having.

I've gotten to the point now where I've had drastically less games than I had installed on 2.12, using only games I had installed on 2.12, and still getting the sync error so I give up for now.
okay so I decided to just click sync games and this message in the picture below popped up. So I clicked yes then asked me to flash custom kernel which I knew I'd have to. Not gonna do that tho just wanted to see what it would do. Good thing I don't need to update tho!

do you think that the crt scanlines filter in retroarch-clover really sucks in comparisson to one in default nes mini emulator? the latter is really good and noninvasive, it's optimal. i rather use the sharpen and digital smoothening filters on my plasma instead of it, but it probably causes some extra unnecessary lag.

Does removing the original 30 games matter much anymore? Now that we have folders, the image assets aren't really that much added on to the console, right? I remember the original 30 being removed was routine since the console needed to display additional image assets like box arts and thumbnails and the pixel arts took a bit of space. But this isn't a real concern now, is this correct?

I see. So there's no point in adding the 30 games' roms if they're already on there?

why would you hide the originals and then upload same roms from other source? the first work ok

Depends on which versions you are after... The versions on the NES mini are same versions from the Wii or Wii U eshops, and many of them have been modified from their original versions in some way... For example the Zeldas are originally from the Gamecube Zelda bonus cd, and have bits removed or modified either to fix spelling or remove flashing parts to prevent epilepsy. So a collector might prefer to play the game as it was originally released.

But as a collector you might actually want to have 'both versions'.

In other cases, there might be a rom fix for certain games... Star Tropics for example has a 'fixed music' version that fixes a couple of tracks that were broken even in the original cartridge. So you might want to have that version and run it on retroarch (the hack doesn't work on vanilla cores).

I've been away for a few days and there's already been loadsa updates! Ha

Regarding mame2003 7z compression of roms do you just unzip the the roms then recompress with z7 or do you 7z the zips? I can't test till tomorrow as still away but would love to know In advance?

Also does this mean larger mame2003 roms will be usable now as anything over about 1.6mb was too much previously for the nes mini on that core?

Hi Tohnolo,

This was talked about earlier in the thread. It is not the issue with RetroArch or hakchi. It is actually with 8Bitdo, I was privy to this information when it was pointed out to me on here linking the manual from 8Bitdo: http://8bitdo.com/retro-receiver-nes-classic/Manual.html

It shows that the receiver has firmware that only maps A/B and auto-fire A/B. It will not map them to X/Y/L/R like official Wii controllers. We just need to wait for 8Bitdo to either release a firmware that will allow other button mapping to be added.
Got it workin by updating the latest beta firmware for both the receiver and controller!

How did you manage to start from scratch ?
I thought you can't delete something.

yeah, it was strange. maybe because of corrupt folder management none of the 30 original games appeared, only SNES games at that time, I then uninstalled hakchi completely (following all steps in hakchi) and did a complete new installation with custom kernel ect.

Hello !

I'm trying to sync Fatal Fury Special for Neo Geo

The game is in my nes mini menu, but i can't find the folder when browsing with retroarch.

And when launching it directly, i come back to the nes mini menu.

any idea ?

You've got /bin/zip in the command line arguments for this game
Change it to /bin/fba
