Hi all. I think that I am what you would call a noob when it comes to console hacking. I managed to softmod my wii without any problems. Then I used this guide:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/gamecube-action-replay-v1-14b-on-a-wii-2014.298126/

Again, there was no problems at all. I managed to install gamecube action replay on my wii, and use it. I spent all night installing it, then when I finally inserted the game disc when prompted, the very last step, it said "No Disc ...". It was the same with every game, and I've actually used an actual gamecube action replay on my wii until the anti-action replay update came. There was no "no disc" problem, and the anti-action replay update prevented the wii from even reading the disc, so I don't think the problem is related. My wii is 4.1U, if that helps. When I was testing out the action replay simulation, one of the times when I started it up, there was an error "Exception 00000300 dsi", but I googled it and found out it's a generalized wii hacking problem, while this seems like an issue with the action replay.

I was, unfortunately, unable to find anything at all related to my "no disc" error. However, I think that it's a solvable problem because it's the final step and a general failure to register that the disc is inside the wii, rather than some complicated and difficult to pinpoint issue.

I'll upload my files if this problem can't be diagnosed otherwise.

Why don't you update your Wii and use Nintendont?
Oh, look, a reply.

Oh wait, it's nothing helpful. My question was about Action Replay and not Nintendon't. If I wanted to install Nintendon't, I would have installed it without the profound insight that your post has given me.

He's giving you advice. No one uses that shit anymore, and if you're going to bite back and reciprocate with sarcasm towards those who offer advice, don't expect anyone else to reply to you. Just don't be an ass.

Okay, Flashed. Nintendon't is the better choice, so I apologize, and thank you.

Now my question is, how do I go about buying an external hard drive to play gamecube games from? Are all external hard drives compatible, or is there a specific kind that I must buy? If there's an external hard drive that's compatible with xbox one and ps4, does that mean it will be compatible with the wii?

There's a compatibility list on the GBATemp wiki but it may not be out of date.

If you can find a no-frills USB 2 or 3 enclosure with a separate power supply and put a standard SATA drive in it that's probably your best bet. The less features like power saving, encryption, etc. the more likely it will work.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
