Exactly ! so why one person that have worked on a homebrew decide to give up and don't give the source code or share any beta ?
Because of a problem of speed download he give up and he don't let anyone else try to find a solution ? Lawl !!!
Or because they don't feel like having users bitch and moan at them for support until the end of time.

Here's an idea: Go learn how to program, learn how to develop on the WiiU, write your own tool to do what you're asking, then deal with the shitstorm that will inevitably follow because of the shittastic download speeds your application is capable of. Good luck!

I gave them all the hints on how to program it very easily using available source code on GitHub too. If there are any developers that want to deal with all the negatives, I encourage them to make it, because it does work, albeit very poorly.

@krfansub
If you want source code, how about you code it for yourself?
It's not hard.

nice to know we're on team salt level now.

dev: "so yeah we got this program to work and we've already done all the work. we don't really like it though."

plebeian gbatemp users: "can we have please use it. it might not be that great for you but we would love it"

dev: "nah. go code it yourself it was easy"

plebeian gbatemp users: ):

Whiny noobs: "OMG GIVE IT TO US WE DESERVE IT IT'S OUR CODE WTF WHY WON'T YOU GIVE IT TO US WAHHHH"
Devs: "Fackoff, code it yourself"

thanks for comparing us to little children. i didn't try to ruin devs' stature in my post.

and we're not saying we deserve it at all or that it's ours. we're just saying it'd be really helpful if it was released. the devs reserve every right not to.

even in my post i said "can we please use it"... while you just told us to fackoff...

this just further solidifies my point. thanks I guess...

@cruplezone See my signature. I have dealt with a lot of whiny brats. And there are definitely people in this topic being whiny brats who can't take no for an answer. The person who created (Or knows who created) the tool you are begging for already said it will not be release, he said that IN HIS FIRST POST ABOUT IT, and yet here you are, begging for it, whining that we're on "team salt level now".

Someone else's project, code, whatever, does not belong to you, it isn't your right to have access to it, or to use it. That person said it existed to give a background to his saying it is pointless. I didn't bother to fully implement something, but have done enough testing to agree that it is indeed pointless for 99% of users.
Why would a dev spend the time coding something, just so he can spend 99% of his time telling users who try to use it that yes, it is supposed to be that slow, and no, there is nothing he can do about it?

No means no. Get over it guys. Just buy cheap Win10 tablet and Bam! You have Wii U USB Helper.
Now can we finally end this useless discussion?

I assume you've never made an app or program and had people complain about something in it that you can not fix. I stated before that I was just telling you the experience I had beta testing it. I would never release/leak a private app that someone that TRUSTS me has let me beta test, and then lose that TRUST, just because some people are whining about it. If you want your own app, make it, or become friends with the person that did. The outline I revealed on how to make it is exactly all that is needed to make it. It is simple as hell, and the fact that no public version of a freeshop has been released for Wii U yet, even though it takes literally less than an hour to code, should tell you something.

This would be a huge waste of time considering how shit the wii u is at downloading things. It takes me 5+ hours to download a measly update on the damn thing even tho I have 250mb/s

Just imagine how long it will take for us to download a game through a homebrew app. At that point its worth the minor inconvenience of using a PC

The fact that so many third party developers ditched the wii u due to how hard it is to develop for really proves something about how hard it is ro develop for wii u. It would most likely take time and dedication, possibly triple the time it took to get usb helper to where it is now. Ive seen miracles though, and like any application, someone's gotta put their mind to it.

Summing up:
  • A version of freeshop on the Wii U exists, but it's not going to be made public in its current state. This is because:
    • The Wii U has a very slow connection. If your PC's internet is slow, the Wii U will be equally slow.
    • You still need a large, empty SD card for it to work (Take careful note of this one).
    • Legal threat from Nintendo towards a minor. Depending on country, this could have serious implications.
  • However, anyone in a situation where this would still be helpful (Has large SD but no reader?) will find this is easy enough to put together in less than an hour.
  • The majority of Wii U homebrew devs who are actively, publicly making things don't really care for piracy.
  • Everyone (rightly) still dislikes team SALT.
  • Anyone making such an application will have to face brand new users who can't read that just want free games now! While this is mildly true of any homebrew application, slap a well-recognised name like "freeshop" on a piracy tool and the issue gets ten times worse.
  • To top it all off, Nintendo has shown time and time again that a "dead console" means nothing in the face of easy piracy. We saw it with the DSi, we saw it with the Wii, we're currently seeing it with the 3DS and with BoTW around the corner I suspect we'll see it on the Wii U.
(N.B. Not caring for piracy does not mean being against piracy. Most will download the odd game or two whilst not really caring about the drama that goes along with it.)

Well, I'm just wondering, But what if we use EXTREME compression with the software, then decompress it once downloaded?

Two big problems:
  • We don't run the NUS; Nintendo does. Getting the server to compress anything before sending it would be tough, if not impossible. A custom NUS server would be interesting (and possible, cc @ihaveamac) but having anything but homebrew on it would be legally questionable at best.
  • You'd still need a big, empty space on your SD card. You may as well just do the download on your PC.
Worth pointing out that this thread hasn't had any replies for over a year. I stand by my post from back then w/r/t Freeshop, though now it matters even less. I'd honestly rather we focused on cool things like Linux and WUPS and RetroArch and wut and game mods and whatever - we've already got established piracy methods that more or less work - generally better than the equivalents on other consoles. I see no reason to put further work into them.

1. TheCruel is in prison for reasons I cannot explain here. Just look it up yourself.

2. The Wii U is basically dead at this point. No point in wasting precious hours to develop a tool for this console. If you're that desperate, just

3. Not sure if the Wii U has the same protection as 3DS games do, but there is a check that the 3DS has that bans your console from online if the game is installed from Nintendo's servers with a fakesigned ticket. Basically freeShop on the 3DS bans your console, so it may ban your Wii U from online.
