Before anyone says anything i just want to make sure you know what i have.

  • Wii u system with 32GB storage.
  • HDD plugged in by y-cable formatted to wii u
  • Haxchi to auto launch mocha cfw.
  • SD Cafiine
Now that this is out the way, i had a idea for something. I know mods is made for games, various mods, ones for like loadiine, some are using sd cafiine which to my knowledge works in same way that wii revolution does, by reading game data files from sd card instead of default location. Usually mods for a game require creating a dump for game, to use in loadiine such as tokyo mirage sessions fe, or maybe even super smash bros to run in loadiine. If you are familiar with this then i should say i explained enough. But my idea i will explain now.

I know that FTPIIU everywhere, is a homebrew for Advance FTP file browsing and transfering. It can access the wii u and usb file system using a available ftp connection client. Most of the games data that isn't stored on disc such as download games, content or updates are. My question is if is possible to replace files with user created mods? Basically it would go something like this.

  1. Start wii u system.
  2. Enable Mocha CFW.
  3. Load FTPIIIU everywhere homebrew.
  4. Connect to FTP
  5. Find the game data content where is stored on the system. (I assume for disc is stored as updated content in same fashion as download games.)
  6. Replace the files with mod files. (For example super smash bros mods)
I been using this to browse data on wii u and noticed the update data in super smash bros stored on the system and it seem to be exactly like how some mods are outlined on mods download websites like gamebanana. The idea of that website explains using sdcafiine which again, redirects data loading to sd card to load mods instead of loading data from default location. The idea is if we replace the mods in the default location where the game reads data without sdcafiine, could we load mods by default without needing to load homebrew like sdcafiine or full game dumps like loadiine gx.

I was gonna try it, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had this idea before i did or just maybe tried but failed or didn't work. Weather or not if you did or didn't, what do you think? I know maybe it sounds dumb to lots of people but I just thought it be useful. Loading mods without homebrew by default. You won't need a sd to load them cause is part of the game naturally now.

Well is there any simple mod that is small that a test can be done with? Maybe replacing video file in smash bros? I dunno how to make a video for the game so i guess i can't try.
I don't know how to make videos for sm4sh either, and I have it on disc so I can't try it.
Do you know another game who has mods? Maybe Game & Wario or TMS#FE?

Well there is TMS#FE? You mean Tokyo Mirage sessions X Fire emblem? I mean there is that uncensor mod (Did you not see my first post?)

But i don't have that game, if i did, i woud probably be trying it on this. As far as super smash bros, i don't think having the disc is a problem. The update data has all the data in the game needed to work, incuding video files. (I know cause i just checked.) So basically all games with update data will have same file structure regardess of disc or digital.

I tried making a video, it says it has to be 29 FPS, 1280X720, and least have AAC audio compression at 48000 khz. If i can load it with SD cafiine, then i will attempt to inject into game data on system to see if it loads without mod. :)

I have Tokyo Mirage sessions X Fire emblem installed via WUPInstaller, so Could I try the uncensor mod?

Yes, but sadly my younger brother decided to delete the game because lulz, and now I don't have it and it will take more than a week to get it back (My internet is a complete shit)
Well i tried a simple file replacement with smash bros. Before i did it, i used sdcafiine to test it out. Then replaced the file. The results were the same so I can say it worked.

The problem is with ftp, it takes a long time, to do transfers. While SD card loading is more preferred and flexible, loading mods without even launching homebrew is pretty good too. Now you don't need a sd at all and is stored safely to use just loading game. :)

Of course you should always backup data first so if you need replacing, and with the size of the data you have to replace, as well as back up, for games, is probably a lot and ftp again is slow, if someone can create a file browser on wii u, it would be nice to simply copy data from sd/USB to system without ftp with ease as well as faster transfer.

NOTE: After visiting the page with the TMS FE uncensored pack, is not possible to do with this method. It uses a xdelta patcher program which requires a extracted file system on pc to use. Unless there is a way to get the already patched file data, the method won't work.

You're describing an implementation of contenthax. If you've used Haxchi, you've used contenthax. You can get away with replacing the files only because hashing doesn't apply to most of them.

Yeah, okay. Except i dunno anything about it. Of course is used to install haxchi, but now i'm talking about using homebrew to install custom mods to the system so you don't need homebrew like cafiine or loadiine to use them, so they are now naturally part of the system, no sd card needed.

If this so called content hax can be used (or even a simple file browser tool to just copy data from SD card, or usb to system storage where data is stored, then loading mods for games like smash bros, mario kart of TMS FE can be simple as loading a game and nothing else required. That was my point of this post. To ask has anyone tried this idea. :)

But thanks for pointing that out i guess.

It would be quicker and easier to just convert your USB installable game to loadiine using cdycript then add the mod files to that then convert the game back to USB installable file with nus packer then install the game. Using Ftpiiu everywhere will take way to long to copy the files.

Both can be found on this site cdcrypt works only on the actual install files it then converts the install files into loadiine files to which you apply the mod then you run the mod loadiine files into nus packer which converts them back to USB installable files. Also USB download helper has cdcrypt built in just down oad the game you want to mod with download helper once the game has downloaded right click on it in usb Helper and select convert to loadine.

Yes they are pc tools space wise both programs are really small but you will need storage space for the actual games obviously. And if you need any more help I will answer your questions just not now as I'm off to bed it's 3am here and I need to be up in 4 hours for work so I really should get some sleep lol.

Hey, what file in Smash Brothers did you replace? I've been experimenting with permanent mods and they usually cause nothing to happen or an error/softlock.

You can with mario kart. It doesn't even require sigpatches after replacing files.
WIth Smash bros, however, i never got it to work properly.

Not sure if this is what your talking but I'v made mods to DKCTF by editing and replacing game files in the update data stored to either sys nand or external. But just basic stuff like moon jump and Invincibility, for permanent codes. Mine still requires sig patches though. its all in my sig.
