Well it never has been, only playstation and xbox seem to have stuff right. Link purchase to the account instead of system. One day if wii u is broke, you got to buy all digital titles again. Also no save data back up so add more insult to that problem. :glare:

So, it is basically no different than the 3DS, Wii, or Wii U. Good job Nintendo, this is why I continue despising you.

Maybe they should revert back to gamesaves being saved only on the gamecart :) That...felt right.
Saves for cartridge games are still saved on the cart. That is not the issue. Saves for digital copies have to be saved on a separate storage medium. Certain Android games allow backing up your game save to a cloud server, so you can restore that save when you download that game on another device you own. There is no excuse for Nintendo to be behind on an issue like this.

I broke both my Wii U and 3DS.

Talking to Nintendo helped me to restore my same NNID with all my purchases to my new Systems.

Purchases ARE attached to the NNID since the NNID was created. Just that the NNID isn't as easily transferable as other accounts (Steam, Google, PSN, etc.). You need to contact Nintendo for doing so.

Why all of this misunderstanding? Does none read what Nintendo releases with detail? It said so since you created a NNID in your Wii U. Games are linked to NNID accounts, and NNID accounts are only transferable with Nintendo's help (in case you lost or broke your old console) or having both consoles for transferring between them by yourself.

Yeah, I knew people were taking that quote from the leaked Switch UI video out of proportions.
The same thing is said when formatting the Wii U. You are obviously allowed to relink the same NNID on the same system. I don't know where people got "oh shit this claims we will finally be able to use our accounts on any Switch and redownload games!"

You'll be able to use your account on any Switch and download your games again... After transferring via the System Transfer feature, having both consoles with you.

It's okay.

Obviously, but I meant people were claiming it was going to be as simple as it is on PlayStation and Xbox. What you said doesn't allow you to have your games on both systems.

I was simply confirming your sentence. I know what you meant.

Anyway, I find strange that many people still thinks that games on Wii U and 3DS are linked to the System, when they are clearly linked to the NNID. The NNID isn't simply as easy to transfer to other Systems as other accounts (Google, Steam, PSN, etc.).

Weather is done or not, is still easier to do with playstation and xbox.
  1. Buy new xbox/playstation
  2. Set it up
  3. Connect to online mode.
  4. Log into account.
Done, If you have playstation plus or xbox live gold, your save data is easy to just download and keep playing after game is installed.

Instead of having you require nintendo assistance to do what others do so much easily, is just a problem to add to it. What if they refuse to do so? Nothing you can do about it then. NIntendo takes too much control over things, can't back up save data, or do simple account transfers unless you have the original system and the new one do a online transfer.

I'm just stating it's not linked to the harware, but to an account. Never said it was as easy to manage as other companies' accounts.

I'm also curious how 3DS is linked by NNID, when 3ds was released, Nintendo network was not established yet, only when wii u was released. So i'm still unsure if this is true. I can understand for wii u but still, system transfer on wii u is not possible, so it would make more sense. That is the reason for what i said. I remember downloading sonic sega allstar racing as my first digital game, it says "Game can be download as many times without repurchase." On playsation store, some games have a limit of specific downloads to 2 consoles i think, and if you wish to do more, i think you may have to repurchase or deactivate the others, yet playstation systems have transfer content as well.

I don't get it all to be honest but if what you say is right, i'm sorry if i upset you and didn't know better. :ninja:

Who's upset? :)

- Wii U to Wii U transfer is possible by yourself if you have both consoles, the same as on 3DS.

- 3DS games purchased before the NNID became a thing on 3DS got linked to the NNID you registered when the feature was released (the NNID accounts on 3DS' eShop). Before that, yes, it was console-tied, but since the NNID update, it's not the case anymore. And even back then, Nintendo could help you restore your purchases by giving your serial code.

Anyway, I repeat, I can confirm that games on both 3DS and Wii U are linked to an account System. I saw the reaction some days ago people had when some news talking about Switch games linked to accounts caused uproar. It was silly to read people thinking that wasn't the case on 3DS nor Wii U, there was nothing new on those news.

And again, I'm not upset. Never said anything insulting nor rude towards you, did I?

Well they did mention that nintendo network id was not the same used on switch and wii u, maybe this is part of the reason why? I dunno, but if it is, sounds like the situation is coming together to understand better.

All switch users need nintendo id, not NNID, which 3ds/wii u has. So having any relevance is probably not gonna happen, even with creating a account with your previous NNID like on the website.
