Saves for cartridge games are still saved on the cart. That is not the issue. Saves for digital copies have to be saved on a separate storage medium. Certain Android games allow backing up your game save to a cloud server, so you can restore that save when you download that game on another device you own. There is no excuse for Nintendo to be behind on an issue like this.Maybe they should revert back to gamesaves being saved only on the gamecart
I broke both my Wii U and 3DS.Well it never has been, only playstation and xbox seem to have stuff right. Link purchase to the account instead of system. One day if wii u is broke, you got to buy all digital titles again. Also no save data back up so add more insult to that problem.

Done, If you have playstation plus or xbox live gold, your save data is easy to just download and keep playing after game is installed.

- Connect to online mode.
- Log into account.
Instead of having you require nintendo assistance to do what others do so much easily, is just a problem to add to it. What if they refuse to do so? Nothing you can do about it then. NIntendo takes too much control over things, can't back up save data, or do simple account transfers unless you have the original system and the new one do a online transfer.

I can understand for wii u but still, system transfer on wii u is not possible, so it would make more sense. That is the reason for what i said. I remember downloading sonic sega allstar racing as my first digital game, it says "Game can be download as many times without repurchase." On playsation store, some games have a limit of specific downloads to 2 consoles i think, and if you wish to do more, i think you may have to repurchase or deactivate the others, yet playstation systems have transfer content as well.

Well they did mention that nintendo network id was not the same used on switch and wii u, maybe this is part of the reason why? I dunno, but if it is, sounds like the situation is coming together to understand better.Who's upset?
- Wii U to Wii U transfer is possible by yourself if you have both consoles, the same as on 3DS.
- 3DS games purchased before the NNID became a thing on 3DS got linked to the NNID you registered when the feature was released (the NNID accounts on 3DS' eShop). Before that, yes, it was console-tied, but since the NNID update, it's not the case anymore. And even back then, Nintendo could help you restore your purchases by giving your serial code.
Anyway, I repeat, I can confirm that games on both 3DS and Wii U are linked to an account System. I saw the reaction some days ago people had when some news talking about Switch games linked to accounts caused uproar. It was silly to read people thinking that wasn't the case on 3DS nor Wii U, there was nothing new on those news.
