Noob to the site with a random question. I've removed my hacked masterballs (Didn't even end up using them) and such, so the worst thing I have now is.... a lot of money, and a few cloned pokemon, so is that anything I need to worry about or not? I haven't started the gamesync stuff at all yet, btw. I'm kinda checking this all out before I do.

If you have modified you save file do not use gamesync you'll be banned. But without gamesync you're good just don't use clone pokemon in the GTS wonder trade can also be a bet I've never tired it since editing but you never know.

Actually (and surprisingly enough), cloned Pokemon have nothing to do with that, but "a lot of money" does. If your current amount of money is higher than the "money earned" flag value, this can lead to the ban
If you never connected to Global Link with this save before, you should be fine though

Thanks for the info, and the cloned pokemon I have are soon going to be traded off actually (directly to some friends.), so I'll probably find a store that sells something really expensive, and just sell/buy it a bunch to alter my money earned. And no, I didn't hack in any of the BP or anything like that, legit just money. Though this does lead to another question. If I was to bank my pokemon and just start a new save, would any of this even matter anymore? Since by then, the pokemon will be split up that I cloned (it's barely any anyway, a type null and 3 Cosmogs) and everything else would be... basically normal.

Instead of focusing on banning cheaters, Nintendo should put a ton of effort in fixing the shitty GTS that has been garbage ever since it debuted in 2007. Way too many silly kids asking for legendaries or level 91 or higher Pokemon.
Nintendo already addressed this, by adding a filter option in Sun and Moon to not show people asking for legendaries when you search for a Pokémon.

Wait, are you telling us that this is the actual cause of the bans, not even item modifications? Just money?

Money, BP, OT/ID mods, Marshadow and Pikashunium/Marshadowium. Maybe pre-Bank mons before the Bank. Seems like it
Suppose I want to change my TID/SID... Am I SOL? I just want to have a single unique Trainer ID on all of my games so that I can freely move pokemon back and forth without worrying about "ownership".

Thanks!

Well, in theory to achieve this you can do your standard unban procedure (deleting your old Game Sync ID from PGL, relinking etc.) but just with changing your OT/ID before obtaining the new Game Sync ID. This only applies if you already have your game connected to PGL. No PGL connection = no ban.

Ok. I might just go ahead and pull the trigger on this. It would make everything so much easier swapping pokemon from game to game if I can just have my very own dedicated Trainer and Secret ID's from the very start of the games.

It kind of bugs me that Nintendo didn't think to implement something like that. How hard would it really be to detect that "hey you already own our generation 6 games, let's just match up the ID's before we create your character" It seems really obvious.

Didn't read whole thread for obvious reason but .. How would Ninty know if you have modified your save file? I am using Game Sync, and though I haven't played in a while, I've game sync'd multiple times after editing my save file in the past. So I just went online and checked - no, still not banned, despite continuously being online with Pokemon's in my party that should not even exist.

See above, I added quite a few pre-Bank mons (didn't know Bank was even updated tbh cuz I havent played in a while) when the game was out, as well as the Z crystals you mentioned. I connected to online multiple times and game synced as well. I didn't do anything with the illegal mons or items online - only offline. And would you look at that - I'm not banned. Now why's that?

good. ban them noobs. they should perm ban the console.

Sounds a bit too harsh. Unlike the morons that thought it was a good idea to go online with a pirated copy of the game before the game was officially released. These players deserve to get their 3DS banned due to their stupidity.

I have a theory, I'm not 100% sure. Pokemon games have stats recorded in their saves. This records a lot things that you do within the game. How many times you have done quick links, how much exp you collected how many items you picked up. even logs your total thumbs/records a second time. so even if you edit the pokefinder to level it up to 5 the stat record will show the original unedited amount.
The stats also record how many pokemon have been traded how many times you run away from battles, how many FCs collected, BP earned BP expended, among other things.

You can see these records in pkhex under trainer info.

I'm currently working in the projectpokemon forums to identify all of these records in PKHeX. If we could identify what triggers them maybe we could make more realistic edits to the pokemon saves.

If the stats records do not match the trainer values it might be one of the possible ways that ninty uses to find us.

I still believe that people who get banned for cheating with real-time hacks in online battles deserve to get ban.

You're right about the stats but there are 200 of them and finding out what each one of them is poses the hardest part, it would require a lot of save states from before and after an X point to see what they record!...

Of course if we knew their values we could probably clean our save files and make them undetectable by Nintendo!...

I've done some major cleaning already but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble anymore, Pokémon Sun & Moon are old games already and the lack of Triple Battles just makes them useless to me in online battling, the PSS was much superior to the Festival Plaza as you didn't have to leave the over-world for online interactions, dumb Game Freaks and Nintendo!...

Anyone have a list of items / pokemon that will get you banned? Due to either not being released or impossible to get (Shiny pokemon that can't be shiny)

There isn't a list of items/pokemon that will get you banned and the reason why is because we don't actually know what is triggering bans yet. We have an idea but nothing has been confirmed. Common sense dictates that you should do your own research before making any edits to your pokemon saves. Understand that by hacking/editing a pokemon save there's always a risk that you could be ban.

The following are reliable websites that you can use to look up information.
Serebii.net (information on pokemon stats, events, updates, pokeballs, items,shiny-locks)
bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net (pokemon stats, community-driven, hex descriptions, calculations)
Pokemondb.net(moves, stats)
projectpokemon.com(Pkhex, Event files)

use your google ninja skills to search anything you want to know and look up for information coming from these sites.

and here I'll share some of my notes on hacking pokemon save methods and their connections to bans.

Save editing applications - (PKHeX) these allows you to edit/create pokemon saves, stats, items pretty much about everything.(PKSM) allows to edit pokemon but can't touch pokemon in battle boxes, party, items, currency, trainer data. Their databases are cool but requires a bit of work to make them unique.

NTR plugins -(SumoCheatsMenu) These hacks changes or lock values in-game. like unlimited z-moves, powered-up stats, all the cool stuff. While many other plugins allow you to play online this specific plugin turns off many of its cheats if you go online. It does this to reduce the risk of getting you ban, and because it's not cool to cheat online. The spawner cheat can give you a legit pokemon if used correctly.

RomHacks(SaltySD,LayeredFS) - If you are only changing music, and textures. you will be fine.

if you are changing pokemon moves, evolution tree, pokemon types. you are increasing your risks and more likely creating illegal pokemon. you should probably keep this from online gaming. For off-line playing, all hail "Pk3ds". some randomizer-based hacks are actually pretty cool.

GAMESYNC- it allows to play rating battles, tournaments, world missions. you can also get unique things from this events(***you can wait until they become available, and visit projectpokemon for those files***). if you want or plan to use this feature, you'd be increasing your risk of getting ban since the game syncs with nintendo servers and LOGS your stats. It's fully activated only after you registered your save online. Most bans have been linked to users that use this feature and have done some save-hacking.

Things you probably shouldn't be using if you are using gamesync. ram-editing tools like NTR plugins. specially if you can go online with those. Do not edit or touch pokemon that you have in battle boxes. Do not have unreleased megastones, unreleased Z-stones, edit pokefinder, change currency (BPs, FCs, Moneys) other than that, as long as you apply common sense to your changes, and do a little research you will most likely fine.

@alterzero understand the pains trying to identify all of these stats but it's all in the sake of emulating realistic game interactions. Ninty wants to know everything that you do with their newest pokemon games. There's so much online-overworld stats interaction it's stupid, but it makes you wonder what world missions are to come. I can see now

"run away from battles a 1,000,000,000 times"
"throw 1,000,000,000,000 pokeballs"
"Get 1,000,000,000 fainted pokemon"

The zeros are not typos, ninty has big expectations.

Wait, SaltySD is fine to use online without getting banned for it? I'm the only one who can use it solely for Custom Music.
