Hi, I was gifted a Korean Wii. It boots directly to Priiloader and wanted to prepare the console for actual use with my kids. I have softmodded USA/EUR wiis before with ease, but those consoles were untouched. This one is hacked and I've heard thats easy to brick Korean hacked consoles.

What should I do first? Backup nand? How?
How to update everything to the lastest?
How can I list which cIOS are installed?
How to have a nomal system menu in english?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Ok. Downloaded HackMii and installed Homebrew Channel, BootMii as IOS and prepared the SD card. Launched BootMii from Priiloader, and backed up NAND.
Next?

korean wiis are easy to brick if your not carefull, you need to read up on 003 error. If its been region changed don't touch the system menu or its ios without reading up on the 003 error first.
Yeah, I know that. Thats why I immediately made a Syscheck log and a NAND backup. But now I dont know what to do next. I want a functional system menu, and maybe a 4.3 fully updated Wii (if its possible).

So I managed to install Homebrew Channel and updated cIOS, also made a backup of NAND with BootMii. I'm still on 4.1 and no System Menu.

Well, I took my chances and downloaded "SystemMenu_4.1U_v449_DarkWiiBlue_Spin.wad" from ModMii and installed with MMM and everything went great, now I have a functional System Menu!
Any advices to do next?
I'm aiming to have latest System Software and channels and avoid bricking it.

Yeah, but I'm not conviced. Any automatic solution is risky for a Korean Wii, specially if I'm aiming to go from 4.1 to 4.3 knowing there is risk of bricking it. I mimicked everything using the app and what it told me and I downloaded almost 90mb of wads with ModMii. I'm hesitant to do that. I'm waiting for an expert.

Please don't take it the wrong way, but all your program do is tell the user to generate a Syscheck log, then put it on ModMii and then update with all the files that ModMii says. Its excellent for newbies and untouched wiis and/or old softmodded wiis, but I cant risk that ModMii is going to update everything just fine as I dont know if it takes into account that this is a Region Changed Wii and not an original US Wii.

In this case, you know a little bit how it's work, no ? So take just the files that is generated you need for your wii on the SD card and install it. You can put away the files you don't need.

Here's something to think about but I'm no expert on Korean Wii's (I've never owned one). Modmii does have Korean support, If it was me I'd tell the program that I have a virgin Korean Wii that I'm region changing to the lastest USA Wii firmware. even though its not virgin. Doing so would give you the correct files you need. After that you can install the files manually if you know what your doing. Just remember 4.1U runs on IOS60 and 4.3U runs on IOS80. but make sure you install IOS80 from modmii first before installing the 4.3U system menu. you can install all the files modmii gives you.

Btw there is really no purpose updating to the lastest system menu, I'd leave it alone if it was me, and just update all the CIOS's
edit: Thinking about it, its not really safe to leave it alone. A legit system menu update would brick you in its current condition.

Of course it takes into account the files needed, as i does not update the system menu, but the IOS on it.

Its funny that you don't want to mess up your wii, and you installed the USA System Menu, on a Korean Wii ;D

Yeah, the problem is, ModMii doesnt give ANY description of what its going to do, it doesnt say if System Software will stay on 4.1 or update to 4.3, and doesnt ask if Wii is Region Changed or not, and I didnt find any info about it.

I'll think about it.
Its exactly what I thought, first thing that came to my mind is my kids trying to update it (despite Priiloader configs).

Of course it takes into account the files needed, as i does not update the system menu, but the IOS on it.

I know, but knowing that Console is already converted and not having a 449 System Menu, I took my chance, and it was "safe" (I have Priiloader...) as it did not touch anything else than the menu.

Well, I think that all of you convinced me :) Will export the CSV again (I have a System Menu now) and will install everything ModMii tells me. Whish me luck and will report ASAP.

As easy and installing IOS80 and downloading The System Menu for 4.3, but also following ModMii guide would be safe.

ModMii exist for a reason, also it reads the cvs file, so it knows what to does, the less user input, the better.
Also Korean Wii have IOS 4, 9, 21, 37, 40, 41, 43, and 45, the last four are from korean wiis only, now lets break it a little bit:

IOS4 was a very primitive IOS that was probably used during the manufacturing process. Consoles requiring the Wii Startup Disc also use IOS4 as the System Menu IOS. Not to be confused with that used on other products.
IOS9 was used by System Menu 1.0 and launch/near-launch games.
IOS21 is used by some 3rd party games.
IOS37 fixed the signing bug, and this fix has been added to all IOSes. This IOS is used by several WiiWare games, and older Guitar Hero/Rock Band games.
IOS40 is Used by System Menu 3.3 in Korea.

As for IOS41, IOS43 and IOS45, there are not many info, but they apear as ACTIVE:

Just double check the WADs ModMii generates, make sure it doesn't download IOS80 and System Menu 4.3. If it does, then skip installing those two files. Stock IOS80 and System Menu 4.3 will brick a region changed KOR Wii, and I don't think ModMii takes this into account. Maybe it does if you drag/drop a sysCheck onto the window though.
There's not really much point in updating beyond 4.1, as the only things that were added after it are "stability" fixes that attempt to block/patch homebrew, and updates can be blocked with Priiloader anyway.

No, that'll cause a brick.
