I know there are already a lot of topics about this, but I since most topics are outdated and I couldn't exactly found the right answer, i'm going to ask here.

What is currently the best way for hacking the Wii U so I can use it for backup loading?
I've read all about IOSU, Rednand, Sysnand, Brazilian, Loadiine but i'm not sure which to use.

I know all have different pro's and con's but here is what I want to do: (1=most importance and 6=least importance)

1. Play backups
2. Play online games
3. Be able to play backups from other regions.
4. Play backups from USB HD
5. I do have a Wii so i'd prefer to use the same HDD so I can also use vWii with the same HDD. But if not then no problem.
6. If not possible, then play backups trough SD

So what method should I use?

Mocha is the only one that will do everything you want.

For most games, you will want to use the Brazilian method.

For eShop-only games, DLC, Virtual Console, and vWii games, you will want to load CFW with either Mocha CFW or Haxchi, and then you will install the games like you would with the Brazilian method.

Use this to download all of you games, updates, DLC, etc.

Use this to install your games, updates, and DLC, regardless of what kind of game it is. This is all you need to do for most games:

Use this guide to run CFW. You need to do this and run some sort of CFW before you install or play any Wii U game that is eShop-only, VC, or vWii. You also need to run some sort of CFW before you install any pirated DLC or play any game that contains pirated DLC. Mocha CFW is the only free one.

Yes but like I said Mocha is the only one that will let him do his 5th question.

That would require the use of Loadiine with Mocha CFW, which is not recommended. It is recommended that you just dedicate a whole drive to the Wii U and manually switch between it and the one dedicated to the vWii when need be.

Yes so use mocha or haxchi as they are both region free.

I totally agree with you but for what the op wants Mocha is the only way to do that.

I'll try to hack my Wii U using Mocha tonight. Hacking the Wii U sure does look a lot harder then the Wii.

Having a dedicated drive is no problem for me. Of course I rather have all in 1 drive but if having 2 drives is the better option. Then i'll go for that.

Hacking the Wii u is harder than the Wii? Are you for real?

I hacked the Wii "back in the day" or at least several years back when you needed a game, it's hacked save file etc. Then you had to dump the nand as backup and what have you.

Hacked the Wii u a few days back and it was a cake walk in comparison, there was an issue but it was me misreading the website address you need to go to on the Wii u.

If you're not messing around with rednand and mocha it's as simple as

1) pop a few files on the sd(the guide tells you which ones)

2) buy a ds title(I went with brain training, I bought my Wii u JUST after its free period ended. I only found that out recently, didn't know at the time they were offering it free),

3)go to the website in the guide on your Wii u to run the homebrew launcher

4) run haxchi

5) install the homebrew launcher channel

6) run cbhc (well you need to go via the website again to first launch homebrew launcher)

Depending on how much you faff about shouldn't take more than half hour.

Yes exactly hacking the wiiu took me two mins it took me a few hours to hack my Wii and about 4 hours to do my 3ds. For the wiiu it quite literally is copy some files to the SD card load the website and run the hack files it's probably the easiest system ever to hack.

Since I only have my Wii U today I guess I thought it was difficult because of all the different tutorials and options. But if you say it's easier i'll find out when I try it myself. Didn't had time tonight, so i'll try tomorrow. Thanks anyway. :)

this is just the thing, id quite like to be able to use 1 drive for wiiu and vwii but could do it with 2 if need be

what im confused about now is the order to go about these things

whats the best way to do the wiiu games, not fussed at all about playing online but would be nice to have updated games and dlc, some virtual console too

would the vwii still need to be softmodded separately? if so, (again) whats the best way? and nintendont?

so what are the benefits of steps 4 and 5? theyre both stated as optional

unless im mistaken, step 5 just saves me from starting the console and clicking haxchi, saving seconds, which i have plenty of, so why skip step 4?

all i really need to know is, how to install VC games, game updates and dlc

Well I didn't have a 64gb card to hand for the rednand, installing the cold boot may only save you "seconds" but what do you do if the website/s allowing you to access the homebrew go down or your internet isn't working?

Just use regular Haxchi?

I would go with regular Haxchi over CBHC. You can launch it directly from the quick start menu making boot up time the same as CBHC, plus it's safer since it's not interfering with the boot process.
RedNAND is mostly pointless for end users. It's more for devs and people that like to mess around with things they shouldn't.

As long as you don't touch the DS VC title you used or format the Wii u without first removing the hack then there's not much risk.

Still, it gives me peace of mind to know that no matter what my Wii U won't be bricked.
Accidents happen, if he lets someone else use the Wii U they might delete the title not knowing, for example.
And we don't know what will happen with the next Wii U update, it might end up bricking anyone with CBHC who updates by accident (and people will update by accident, there's no doubt about that)
