Until I get my hands on the system itself it's hard for me to guess how the connector looks like. Since the dock turns the Switch screen off and instead switches to the TV screen, it's most likely a chip in the Dock telling it's connected to it. Then again, let's wait until it's out and we shall see. Might be something dumb like they just twisted some cables around and it's suddenly not a standard USB-C but yet some of the cables for charging is still standard.

I mean it's not the first time it have happened, the first Xbox controllers was just USB with a different connector on it.

But this does not mean a third-party wouldn't be able to reverse it. It's not a first for accessories to happen. They will always find a way. I'm sure there will be a cheaper version soon. hahaha.

and what if there's a code in the tablet itself telling it that's it's not in an official dock? i doubt we will be seeing 3rd party docks anytime soon.

I call bullshit. Just wait for a cable to do what the dock does.

Referencing both of these, back with the gamecube the component cables had an ASIC in them which is why we've never seen third-party cables for it. If Nintendo really wants to they can make it so third-party docks are literally impossible.

something I haven't seen on hands on videos or the unboxing video is how the tablet connects to the dock, is there only 1 connector on the base that acts as video output and power input?, or are there 2?, 1 for each thing.

Just the USB C connector. There are some other "thingies" that make sure it is lined up correctly.

Alright, that is some bull shit. I want a portable device that I am able to use on the go and quickly connect to a TV. If I want to just bring my Switch to a friend's house, I don't want to have to bring the dock! That ruins many possibilities with the device being portable! Talk about turning me off, Nintendo

And all their proprietary connectors for the past 2 decades hasn't already turned you off?

Nintendo has turned me off several times. Their connectors being one of the reasons. I swear to God, though, if they do not have GameCube VC I will genuinely shit in an envelope and send it to them.

Oh, and the footage for Mario Odyssey made me go limper than a boiled noodle.

And yet here we are once again coming back for more abuse.

I am convinced you are just looking for stuff now. USB-C is a *connection technology*...the chips at either end do the work. Everything with a USB-C connector "doesn't just" for *myriad* reasons.
More importantly, again, Nintendo has *clearly and repeatedly stated* their position on this, no matter how many times bloggers, forum respondents or anyone else tries to "re-write" their product narrative. Hell, it is literally the *first thing they say* in their overviews: "The Nintendo Switch is a Home Console that connects to your TV".

There is nothing in anything *Nintendo* has ever said that should lead you or anyone else to believe that Nintendo's product and intent was, as you described it, "a portable device that I am able to use on the go and quickly connect to a TV".

This is literally not that product nor has Nintendo ever said it was. Why there was any expectation that you could connect the thing to a TV without the path that was built for connecting to a TV and other things, is 100% beyond any data I am aware of to support this.

Additionally, why would they have Gamecube VC? The more likely scenario would be remakes, because then you don'T have to try to emulate an entire PowerPC architecture on ARM. No one even said they would. Again...fishing.

The product is what it is.

Are you kidding me? The first full HD Mario sandbox game? Only thing that really would've disappointed me is another Mario 3D Land game.
Is this even Mario anymore? Whatever happened to saving Peach from the castle and annihilating Bowser for stealing YOUR girl?! This is worse than Super Mario 3D land! This is based in the city!

The only acceptable retro game that has been based in a city and been a great game is Sonic Adventure DX and 2! Super Mario Odyssey is a great advancement in the graphical stage, but perhaps sticking to the classic Mario storyline is better than making the game seem more modern than their previous titles.

This game looks much worse than Super Mario 3D Land. In fact, it looks like this game will be the same thing as Super Mario 3D land except bigger! Huge disappointment from Nintendo, and I love Nintendo.

It's sad to see what they have come to.

The city is the hub world, much like 64's castle or Sunshine's Delfino Plaza. It's pretty obvious from the trailer that there are several different worlds you can reach from there. Bowser and Peach were both in the trailer doing their typical thing too, so I don't know why you think they wouldn't be included as main story pieces.
